This is … well it has to be the cheapest prices I've seen to China. It's a low cost carrier, but it's my fav (Air Asia), and flies via KL.

Also worth comparing with:
- Hainan Airlines: Melbourne to Beijing from $408 Return, Sydney to Beijing from $441 Return (Feb-Jun)
- Beijing Capital Air Return: Nanking Ex MEL $397/SYD $422, Beijing Ex MEL $443, Xi’an $452, Changsha Ex SYD $458 [Mar-Jun]

Sydney to Beijing (2 May - 10 Dec) from $501 return
Melbourne (Tullamarine) to Beijing (1 May - 10 Dec) from $392 return

Mate, kids get sick all the time, a playground or school is a walking petri dish. As for your shocking figure of 100 acute cases in Hong Kong schools, in October 2024, NSW had more than 2,700 presentations to NSW emergency departments in just one week.

So comparitvely it's a great place to travel as Hong Kong with 7.5 million people has fewer numbers of gastro than here. Probably weren't thinking of that when you thought to post, hey Trumpet.

@tommypickles He actually stated it was HK students going to the Mainland (in this case, Zhaoqing in Guangdong), not students going to HK.

    • in other news the sky is blue

    Still too expensive

Not seeing the value considering a brief search shows plenty of Chinese Full Service carriers for sometimes only like $50 more or even sometimes cheaper. Air Asia has tiny seats, no included food or checked luggage, no ife, etc.

Cathay Pacific is only a few dollars more on some of those dates. I know what I’d prefer!
