how long do i need to be away from exetel to be considered a "new" customer again?

    • +1

      6 months usually.

      • no you can get it straight away.

        • You mean I can just sign up to the new plan and cancel the old one? Am with exetel atm

          • +1

@akura: No you would have to leave and go to like tangerine for or leaptel with a trial then move back to get the deal. or just talk to the retention team they usually will just give you the deal

            • @SpeedAU: Thanks for this, just called them and they extended the $15 off deal for another 6 months.

Will have to see if they do it again in another 6 months time.

Have been quite happy with Exetel so it is frustrating having to do the "churn dance" every six months (my last churn was from MyRepublic, talk about rats off a sinking ship…)

              • @xyron: No problem, the reason providers do the 6month deal is because it's a liability to them if they offer it long term. So they make there money of the people that let it lapse so it all evens out. Sad but true… Good to hear they extended.

Crazy drop outs everday in my area. Changed to other provider and no issues at all.

    • Who did you change to?

    • Is this by any chance in Perth?

    • Same. Currently experiencing dropouts with Superloop, not as bad as daily but enough that I'm wanting to switch.

    • I'm the opposite. Crazy dropouts with another provider. Changed to Exetel and no issues at all..

  • So can't really compare to Aussie then?

    • Exetel has been better that ABB in terms of speed and just as good for reliability.

  • +3

I was dubious of Exetel when I moved over from Aussie.. but the price was right. Actual NBN performance (FTTP 100/40) has been flawless though so I can't fault them in that regard. Aussie always seemed to have a lot of outages. Customer service is better at Aussie though.. but while they're billing me the correct amount and everything is working, I'll stay.

  • No offer on Superloop? They are now one company

  • Save 45c per month for 6 months? $2.70 off isn't even worth offering!

  • +3

Looks like the regex for highlighting the price in title needs some work, wonder why it's been setup to highlight past 2 decimal places and include a comma

      \$[0-9\.\,]+
      passed the first test :)

Allows for european notation I guess. $1.234,56

  • They used to do credit check, not sure about now.

    • They did a credit check for me, annoying because my credit score dropped because of it.

  • I signed up with Exetel a few days ago on the 100/40 plan. When doing a speed test, the speed is good, BUT when i try to download youtube videos on my iPhone for offline viewing, the downloading of those videos is so very slow. Extremely slow. Anyone else having the same issues?

    • When I was with them the speeds were fine on my Windows laptop but the loading of web pages took ages on my Android phone and my friend's Ipad.
Perhaps it was some sort of optimisation thing.

    30 Day Notification in Cancellation

    • This. And when I said I'm going away, they offered me this exact same discount last month. Win win

      • Well I forgot about it too, I rang them and said that under the NBN rules you are free to swap and go as you please, as I thought this was a thing, she had to check with her manager and cancled it for the next day.
When I tried to find that ruling on the nbn website I couldn't find it 🙈 but I may have not looked very hard.

  • I was with exetel for 7 years.. i canceled my services and signed up to get this deal.. was fine.. no issues.

I got my new service before i canceled :)

  • -1

Be sure on the last month even if you give 30 days cancellation notice you will be billed full amount without discount

    • They used to bill for last 30 days as normal (with discount) when I had them, may be they changed now ?

One thing for sure is they dont let customer budge away for those 30days they want payment for that 1 month notice, I tried hard to not pay it, but yeah did eventually ended up having two connections, them and 5G home internet

  • Do they check your credit file?

  • +1

Called them to ask to match, was refused. Was offered $5/mo discount for 12 months with no contract. Time to churn, I guess.

  • Flawless here in Brisbane been on it now for the past 5 months 👍

  • Exetel and Tangerine were the worst for us, Perth Metro FTTN. constant drop outs, sometimes speed even slowed after activating speed boost.

  • Would anyone know if the Telstra gen 2 modems can be reconfigured for other providers? Firmware flash?
    Thanks

    • +1

Telstra SMG2 is compatible with most ISPs by leaving the connection type on IPoE or swapping to PPPoE with your ISP username and password. The tch gui unhide from Github is not needed for this.

The hidden menus and VLAN 802.1Q for WAN can be unlocked on the Telstra SMG2 Technicolor DJA0231 variant.

Thanks alot, i somehow received a brand new one today, so will give it a go.
I think I'll be changing provider.
        Thanks again.

  • Been with them for a while (based in Ipswich, QLD). Service has been stable, however I have been experiencing buffering issues when using the Disney + app. All other streaming services work fine though. Seems to be a thing: https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/974p0zk7

  • Their speed boost function has been hit and miss recently as well.

    • I was enjoying 20 banked days straight of speed boost (50 —> 100) but have 5 days left in my last billing month (upgrading to FTTP Tangerine) and they somehow managed to remove the my speed boost section in My Exetel lol. I'm due to churn on Saturday and called them today to get it fixed, hopefully can use the last 5 days of speed boost!

  • I live in Ringwood, Victoria and these guys were absolute trash. I lasted 7 days before switching back to ABB. Ended up getting a refund for the remainder of the month.

As others said, the speed was really good when doing a test but it was just constant drop outs and slow loading on all mobile and tablet devices. Not really great when you work from home.

Don't get sucked in by their cheap deals like me and do a bit of googling.

    • Thanks for the review.

  • Can I use modem from dodo to use with this ISP?

  • Been with Exetel before and service was good. Have literally just moved back to them and service was moved over from Spintel within 30mins. Amazed, was waiting until tomorrow to get any update. Hope service is still as good as before.

    • Hey mate - it looks like you and I have our 6 month welcome offers lined up ;)

Just chatted with Spintel customer service and was offered nothing to stay, moving over to Exetel now too - good to hear its quick and seamless, pulling the trigger now

Was thinking of joining exetel but the comments here put me off, especially the 30day notice for cancellation. WTF?

    • I'm with Superloop, they also have 30 days notice with prepay of monthly bill in advance and no pro rata refund. My last payment went through a few days ago, so 30 days notice puts me passed my next monthly payment. Requesting cancellation roughly 6 weeks away in my case utilises the service paid for but it is a little annoying.

Edit: enquired about cancelling via chat, told I need to call so I do that and after navigating robot options I land at a recorded message saying "thanks for calling Exetel, we are experiencing technical difficulties please call back later" haha.

      • I was with superloop before and they never had the 30 days notice. Yes you prepay in advance for month as with all ISPs but if you cancel before your billing date then you're good

"a provider has charged a consumer for cancelling a contract but the exit fee does not appear to be a genuine estimate of the provider’s loss."
"the consumer has a right to cancel the contract without an exit fee if the change is detrimental to the consumer"

  • I just switched to Exetel 100/40 from Spintel 100/20. Spintel's upload speeds were averaging about 10Mbps, too slow for my WFH. upload speeds typically about 90Mbps.
It's only been 12 minutes since I connected, but download speed reported at over 100Mbps, upload speed at 37Mbps. if it remains at this level I'll be very happy.

30 days notice period is no big deal… in 5 months if I want to churn I'll let them know I'm leaving. Easy!

  • This may be the cheapest option for 100/20 plans at 68ish per month. The good thing theyve got is 5 days of speed boost which ups speed for a day to 250/25.

Looks like the referrer gets a discount, but no benefit for referee?

For those experiencing network dropouts etc, , try switching from CGNAT to a public IP (in the exetel web portal, happens straight away - don't open a support case, they don't do anything).

    • Where is that option setting in https://my.exetel.com.au/ ?

      • +1

Dashboard -> My Services -> nbn … Manage -> Change My IP address

        takes you to

        https://my.exetel.com.au/my-services/nbn/XXXXXX/change-ip

XXXXXX is a 6 digit number (not customer ID).

Choose static IPv4 and give a reason.

If you don't like the IP address you can choose the next (I got one with dud routing previously).

        • Thanks! I was switched over from CGNAT to a static IP by their customer service when I called due certificate and port forwarding issues (on a new signup).

Seems if you're already static IP there is no mention of CGNAT option or switching on this page.

Anyway switching to static IP solved all the problems instantly.

  • For CBA account holders, isn't More Telecom the better choice?
Same pricing without the 30-day cancellation notice.

    • Just rolled out of 12-month More offer when the 30% discount ended.

More wanted to charge me a full month if I cancelled one day in. They didn't send the bill until after period started.

Threatened them with a TIO report due to not advising of impending price change…they agreed to pro-rata it.

      • +2

More wanted to charge me a full month if I cancelled one day in. They didn't send the bill until after period started.

Tangerine also does the same thing. They don't send the bill right away.

Also, if you fail to churn away before the next billing cycle you will cop a charge for the whole month. You were lucky they didn't throw the T&Cs at you.

  • +2

Anyone tried disconnecting the Exetel service for a few days then sign up again for another 6 months promo?

  • Does exetel require configuration to the modem?

    • yes

  • Does Exetel have static IPs. I am with Superloop and pay $5/m for that and it is essential for my work.

    • yes. it is free.

  • So I didn't read the Ts & Cs and just learnt about Exetel's 30-day notice for cancellation moving over to Tangerine.

My start date with Tangerine was 4 days ago and it was also when they issued a cancellation notice to Exetel. Exetel was only going to cancel my service 30 days from that date - so keeping my service up and only switching it off in about a month's time.

Good thing I called Exetel and they waived the notice period, so I won't be burnt for having my service open for a whole month and will only be charged for a couple of days.

Is this standard for ISPs? Seems like a crappy practice and wanted to let anyone else know.

Slightly unrelated but when moving over to Tangerine by ordering in advance, they didn't even send me the email to update my modem credentials, so not a great start there.
