The Hunger Games (2 disc Blu-ray edition + digital copy) will only cost $24 at Video Ezy from the 17th of August until the 21st of August. I have had a look at JB Hi-Fi, and they are selling the same version $29.98.

    This movie sucks….

Why down vote this guy? He's absolutely right. Predictible ending: check. Uninspiring flighting: check. Lack of plot: double check. Oh right… typical AAA movie rubbish.

      • I quite enjoyed the books but didn't like the movie at all, despite reading the books first. As we all know, the books are almost always better than the companion movies (with a few exceptions - I thought the Fight Club movie was better than the book.)

The books did remind me of John Christopher's 'The Tripods' series, which were written way back in the '60s. They are NOT similar, but they have some similar plot points and a familiar vibe. I'd be happy if somebody like Peter Jackson took on The Tripods, it has potential to be epic.

        • I found the books were written for the teen audience. The story arc is very frustrating. The characters are boring and have no dimension to them. The story is even flatter than the characters. The concept has promise, the author just wasn't up to scratch in my opinion. still they're a better author than I am I suppose.

He got down voted because his opinion of the movie has nothing to do with the value of the deal.

  • Big W has the 2 Disc edition for $24.82 and the deluxe 4 disc for $29.84

    • I will check out what version it is tomorrow night.

      • If your lucky and quick some of the JBHIFI versions come with a Mockingjay Pendant

if you like twilight, you'll like this movie. in other words, this movie is more suitable for teens. ps. plz dont neg me if you are one.

    • +4

Have you seen the movie? Whilst the movies target demographic probably is teenagers, it has no relation to Twilight whatsoever, apart from being a fantasy.

      • yes, i've seen it few days ago hence the comment. not saying it's bad it's just my opinion.

        • So the movie is just OK?

        • +1

          it's ok. content is predictable.

        • +2

This movie is good and I hated twilight. Not even sure why the two get compared.

        • +2

People love comparing mainstream movies with the same demographic to one another, despite the movies having little to nothing in common with each other.

  • I have't seen this movie but I've heard it's very similar to Battle Royal..
    http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0266308/

    • +2

      Absolyutely NOTHING like Battle Royale.

      Please stop continuing that myth.

Just because one or two plot elements are similar does not make the movie similar.

      • +1

It's actually much more than "one or two plot elements" that are similar. Though I do agree it's not a blatant rip off.

        http://io9.com/5888124/did-the-hunger-games-really-rip-off-b…

Although Suzanne Collins did come out and say that she had only heard of Battle Royal after she had completed the novel.

In my opinion Battle Royal is a much better book than The Hunger Games.
I do feel if you try and compare the two movies Battle Royal will draw the short straw only because it came out in 2000 and had a much, much lower budget.

        • +2

Comparing Hunger Games to Battle Royale, is like comparing Twilight to Blade. The comparison works if you want it to, with the problem being that if you like one movie, you'll probably hate the other.

You'd be REALLY p*ssed if you loved Blade and got dragged along to see Twilight, after being told they are 'similar'

Same as I was p*ssed when I was dragged along to see The Hunger Games movie after being told it was 'similar' to Battle Royale. They were NOTHING alike. I had to sit through that two hour snore-fest Hunger Games movie, which had barely any action, almost no blood and guts, an incoherent plot and terrible acting.

  • +1

The problem with this movie is there wasn't enough back story to tell you why they have the 'hunger games' it was only vague. So I found it hard to care why they were there.. Thats the problem with most book to movie conversions, not enough time.

    • I totally agree.

My partner was quite lost throughout watching The Hunger Games so I caught her up by whispering in her ear. Obviously she hadn't read the book.

I couldn't refrain as the second worst thing from a crying baby in the theatres is an annoying friend/gf/wife etc always asking questions.

Don't be smart and say "Well the third worst thing is someone talking in the movies!"

      • +1

Nah third is someone else unwrapping choc top cause you cant eat it. Or drop the choc from a choc top on yourself and only realise after the movie.

        Also mobile phones going off.

    • Not sure how much more of a back story you need. It's very simple.

      • and I haven't read the books.

        • Stuff like how come there are so many different districts, why are they all so socially different (wealth vs poor) what caused the uprising etc. After all that's what they are fighting for. Its hardly simple

        • I'm guessing the books have this info? It's only a 90 minute movie mate can't fit everything in..

        • It's a 2 hour movie :p Which only reinforces your point, they put in as much detail as they possibly could.

        • Yeah exactly that's my point. Book to movie conversions suffer only getting half the story. Which was the problem (for me) in this film.

  • +1

the book was good and the movie was pretty accurate visual representation of the book. I liked it, but again I had read the books from beforehand.

  • +3

I can confirm its the 2 Disc Blu-Ray + Digital Copy. Same as being sold at JB.

    • Yep, bought a copy today, I am happy with the price.

  • +1

Went to buy the 4 disc edition from JB….. For some reason it's in a case the size of a DVD -_- I'm sorry, but the OCD in me cannot have a dvd sized blu ray cover in amongst the normal sized BR covers on my shelf!! Video Ezy therefore got my business.

  • Just letting people know the first book is on special (Kindle eBook version) at Amazon today:
