  • Is the 20x points only for $50 value Ultimate Gift Cards?

    • +3

Offer available from 12/4/23 to 18/4/23 on all denominations of gift cards listed

      • It looks like only the $50 Ultimate gift cards are on their catalogue…

        • +4

          all denominations

        • T&C in white under the banner.

        • I have seen at Woolworths (including today) Ultimate Kids gift cards available in the following denominations:

          • $30
          • $50
          • $50-$500 variable load

I also saw Ultimate Teens gift cards available in the following denominations:

          • $30
          • $50
          • $20-500 variable load

As the OP has already pointed out twice, the fine print in this deal very clearly states all denominations (not just the $50 denominations) of gift cards listed are included in this deal, which means that the 20x Everyday Rewards applies to all the denominations I have listed above for Ultimate Kids and Ultimate Teens gift cards.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: Thanks for info. Wasn't sure Teens or kids came in variables thought that was everyone only. Thanks for clearing thinks up.

            • @Sheng: Woolworths supermarkets should sell Ultimate Everyone, Teens, Kids and Home gift cards in the variable load denomination. Obviously, stock may vary depending on the store you are at, but this is what you will usually find when going from store to store (especially when there is no active promotion on those Ultimate gift cards).

In terms of Woolworths Metro, I don’t actually know if any of them currently stock any Ultimate gift cards in the variable load denomination (partly because I found out the hard way late last year the Ultimate Everyone variable load suffered from a problem where you could only load $0.01 onto the gift card).

Does anyone know what denominations the Flight Centre cards come in? Hoping it's more than just $200…

    • Could only find $200 at my local (Beerwah), I dismissed it once I found there was a $6.95 activation fee

  • Can I buy apple gift cards with these cards in JB-hifi?

    • I wonder that too. Thinking about picking up a mac mini at the apple education store. That might work out well.

    • +9

      tl;dr probably.

Apple gift cards are only sold instore at JB Hi-Fi. They are not sold on JB Hi-Fi’s website, so hopefully you have a physical JB Hi-Fi store you can easily get to.

Assuming you can easily get to a physical store, the JB Hi-Fi checkout will let you use an Ultimate gift card to pay for an Apple gift card. Make sure you tell the staff member you would like to pay by card (or Visa). If you instead say you want to pay by gift card, the staff member will likely assume that you want to use a JB Hi-Fi gift card as a payment method, which is problematic, because JB Hi-Fi gift cards are redeemed very differently to Ultimate (and TCN) gift cards; if the staff member selects Gift Card on their terminal, you will be unable to redeem an Ultimate gift card until the staff member goes back and selects Card as a payment method.

Another factor to be mindful of is whether the staff member operating the checkout will actually let you do this. You may run into a staff member who is insistent that you cannot use gift cards to purchase gift cards, and if that is the case, there is not a lot that you can do. I find a lot of staff do not care about the payment method you use, but some others on OzBargain have found otherwise. I will note that swiping a card on the EFTPOS terminal tends to arouse suspicions from some staff members, as that hints at you attempting to use a gift card of some sort as a payment method, so if you want to be stealthy about it, consider adding the Ultimate gift card to a compatible mobile wallet (Apple Pay, Google Wallet, Samsung Wallet) and then paying from the mobile wallet.

I have not even touched upon split payments, because that may open another can of worms. Have a look at this FAQ for more information.

Thanks for that detailed reply. I might actually go to jb hifi and talk to the staff before i purchase. I'm sure if i get a yes or no i can just go to wollies and grab the vouchers.

      • +4

Easiest would be to convert the ultimate gift card to apple pay or google pay (if thats supported) credits and make a purchase using that. Easy as!

        • Do they just stack into one tap or do you have to tap to pay for each gift card?

          • @Radiskull: tcn cards would give you an equivalent jbhifi voucher for each card. I can’t recall ultimate gc’s situation.

            • @kaleidoscope: Blackhawk Network has not allowed the exchange of an Ultimate gift card for a digital JB Hi-Fi gift card on the Ultimate gift card website since early November 2021.

          • +1

@Radiskull: You would need to tap each Ultimate gift card… and there are limits to how many Ultimate gift cards you can have stored on a mobile wallet (as this person found out the hard way).

            • +1

@WookieMonster: That’s absurd. bs customer support from google. Had similar bs exp with a pixel 7 device. The fellow asked me to follow hundred different steps and said i will need to ship the device back for a replacement… Except next day when i woke up the problem has been auto resolved (5g wasn’t connecting was the issue)

    • Had no issues doing this with the Ultimate gift card :) Redeemed 23 $100 Ultimate gift cards and had a very long receipt!

  • thanks

  • Hanging out for a deal on eBay GC

    • Getting ready for Shopback on 17th aye?

  • I assume gift cards don't count towards the fortnightly Everyday Rewards offers of spend $x in 1 or more shops and get y points.

    • +1

      Your assumption would be correct.

Some gift cards used to trigger some of those kind of offers (by accident), but Everyday Rewards patched this as part of an overhaul of their systems last year.

  • +1

Please bole the statement “Limit of 10 cards per transaction and one transaction per day per Everyday Reward Member.” otherwise ppl may miss points.

  • Haven't been able to load these cards on Apple wallet, anyone had the same?

    • Not this time, I have this issue once before, it took about 2-3 weeks…

  • The points are not loaded automatically again, their system is not fixed, will need to wait 14 business days for them to manually load

    • I just bought $1000 and it was instant on my rewards card. 20000 points $100 next shop. Must’ve fixed the system. $1000 was daily limit for gift cards.

      • I purchased Ultimate Home Variable Load gift card last week in the same store, but still have not received the points yet, it might because not all stores have updated their system.

BTW, did you buy the variable load cards or the fixed value cards?

        • Variable. $20-$500 the ultimate gift for teens

          • @Mikael: Thanks, I will try another store next time

    • Bought some on Wednesday - Friday, all points loaded automatically.

Saturday - no points loaded at all.

Seems like EDR having issues again.

  • +2

Just bought $1000 as store limit. Getting wife a new phone. On my rewards card straight away $100. (20000 points). So guess their system fixed.

  • Can someone pls confirm if we can redeem physical Ultimate gift cards online at JB HI-FI?

    • +3

You can redeem a maximum of 1x Ultimate gift card in one transaction on the JB Hi-Fi website.

Have a look at this FAQ for more information and potential workarounds.

      • I'm having trouble redeeming my Ultimate Home. The Ultimate card number has 16 digits but the JB-Hifi website asks for 18 digits.

        • The Ultimate Home gift card you have is a prepaid Visa gift card. You need to redeem it like a Visa card on the JB Hi-Fi website (i.e. you need to enter the gift card details into the Credit/Debit Card section of the online checkout).

          Does that make sense?

          • @WookieMonster: Right. The item I'm getting is $1100. Could the payment be split between my $500 Ultimate and credit card?

            • +1

              @mun4: Nope.

The only kind of split payment you can do on the JB Hi-Fi website is (an unlimited number of) JB Hi-Fi gift cards + one other payment method (e.g. your Ultimate Home gift card).

You have some options, but I will warn you it is not exactly straightforward:

              • Purchase the difference between the item cost and the $500 Ultimate Home gift card in physical or digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards, then redeem the JB Hi-Fi gift cards + the Ultimate Home gift card in the online checkout. If you have access to discounted gift card portals (e.g. Reward Gateway, Bupa Life Rewards, Shopback, HCF Thank You, Redeem Your Gift Card), you can purchase digital JB Hi-Fi gift cards at a discount to soften the blow of having to procure JB Hi-Fi gift cards elsewhere first. Keep in mind that the JB Hi-Fi gift cards will be redeemed first, then the checkout will attempt to charge any amount left over to your Ultimate Home gift card; I mention this, because if the item has a funny price (e.g. $1098.50) and you want to redeem every single last cent from your Ultimate Home gift card, you would need to be exact in the amount you spend on JB Hi-Fi gift cards (i.e. in my example, you would want to purchase $598.50 in JB Hi-Fi gift cards).

              • Go to a physical JB Hi-Fi store to purchase the item you want, because you can easily do split payments (which the staff member should be happy to let you do). I acknowledge that the item you want may not be available instore or you may not be able to easily get to a JB Hi-Fi store…

              • Go to a physical JB Hi-Fi store and use your Ultimate Home gift card to purchase a JB Hi-Fi gift card. Please note that some staff will stop customers from doing this if they realise that you are trying to do this, whereas other staff do not care.

              • Go to the JB Hi-Fi website and purchase a $500 JB Hi-Fi gift card using your $500 Ultimate Home gift card as a payment method. This would then let you use your credit card + the $500 JB Hi-Fi gift card in one online transaction. I will note that Riskified - the third-party risk management tool JB Hi-Fi uses to analyse transactions for the likelihood of fraud - will likely flag the transaction as suspicious, because Ultimate gift cards do not support security features that should be on your credit card (e.g. 3-D Secure), so Ultimate gift cards would appear to the payment processor as a riskier payment method than your credit card.

              • Add your Ultimate Home gift card to Apple Pay, then go to the JB Hi-Fi website on an Apple device using the same wallet and purchase a $500 JB Hi-Fi gift card using the Ultimate Home gift card as the payment method. I find that merchants are more likely to accept a prepaid gift card if it is paid via a mobile wallet (e.g. Apple Pay), but Riskified could still step in and cancel the transaction. It’s a bit of a gamble.

              • +1

@WookieMonster: Very helpful. Appreciate it. Unfortunately, I've just tried Option 4 and buying a $500 JB Hifi gift card with my $500 Ultimate Home gift card, but the transaction was rejected. I'll likely have to go into a physical store.

  • Thanks OP. Now I can get the PS5 for 10% less for my son’s birthday on Friday.

  • Guys sorry if this has been answered already, but it is a limit of 10 per day right, not 10 pet rewards account?

    • +1

You can only earn bonus points on one transaction per day, and in that transaction, you can purchase theoretical maximum of ten gift cards. Any attempts to purchase more than ten gift cards in a transaction will cause the checkout to display an error.

Whether you can actually purchase ten gift cards in the one transaction is a complete unknown, because:

      • AFAIK, different checkout staff are assigned a different dollar limit to what they can approve for gift card purchases. One time, I went to a Woolworths where the junior staff member at the self-serve checkout could not approve a $500 gift card purchase, so they had to ask a more senior staff member to approve my purchase. I think $1,000 and $2,000 are other limits assigned to non-managerial staff, and I think managers (either duty or store managers) can approve any gift card purchase, even $5,000.

      • Most duty and store managers I have come across are not willing to approve a purchase of $5,000 worth of gift cards, because it is very unusual for someone wanting to do that. Wanting to purchase a very high dollar amount of gift cards in one transaction is a classic indicator that someone could be falling for a gift card scam, although that is definitely not the only reason someone would want to purchase $5,000 worth of gift cards in one transaction.

      • You may even have some staff enforce a different limit to what they are able to approve (e.g. $500, $1,000, $2,000), because their willingness to approve higher-value gift card purchases is lower than other staff.

If you are being asked to split a gift card purchase across two or more transactions in the same visit, do not do that. You will not earn automatically any Everyday Rewards points on the second, third, etc transactions, which means you will be at the mercy of an Everyday Rewards rep as to whether you get any points. The collective OzBargain experience seems to be that Everyday Rewards reps are generally forgiving, especially if you tell them that the store's staff insisted you would get points on the second, third, etc transactions in the same visit. If I were asked to split a gift card purchase, I would say no and say that I would only purchase the maximum that staff would let me purchase in one transaction.

FYI for anyone interested in Dymocks, I noticed earlier today that it was removed from the Ultimate Kids gift card within the last couple of days, which means that it is officially no longer a participating retailer of the Ultimate gift card scheme.

I have reached out to Blackhawk Network to confirm whether this removal was intentional, because I cannot find anything on the Ultimate gift cards website about this removal. This is different to the removal of Thankly a few weeks ago, where the Ultimate gift cards' FAQ page confirms that Thankly is no longer part of the scheme.

  • Hi guys anyone seen a woolworths that tells you that you can't buy a gift card at a self check out?
When I scanned a variable load teen one I was told to go the service desk. I am guessing they would not allow me to swipe a coles MasterCard so I didn't try.
This was at Garden City Westfield.

  • Doh.. Didnt read the one transaction per day. Got 2x$500 cards but in seperate transactions one cash one EFT so only the first one got the bonus 20x points. Should have done it in one transaction as a split payment.

    • I don't think woolies allow split payment for gift card purchase

      • I bought $500 gift cards with split payment using 2x $250 Coles MasterCards with no issue at self checkout.

        • That’s brilliant. Use discounted $250 ColesMC GC to purchase $250 Ultimate GC to get bonus in WW dollars!!

    • Good news.. after waiting on hold for almost an hour the person I spoke to manually adjusted and I got the extra 9500 points on my account. He also said I should have been able to use split payments FYI

      • -1

Why did you only receive 9,500 points? This deal is for 20x points per $1 spent, and you do not earn any standard EDR points when purchasing any gift cards at Woolworths.

        Btw…

        • At a Woolworths self-serve checkout, you can do split payments, even when purchasing a gift card.

        • At a Woolworths standard checkout (i.e. operated by a dedicated staff member), you can do split payments as long as the staff member knows how to do that and is happy to do that.

        • +1

They had already given me 500 ie 1 point per dollar spent. I should have got 10000 points ( 20x500 ) so they made up what was missing 9500

  • With Officeworks can you do split payment online for purchasing an EFTPOS gift card? There's one for $507.95 which I wish to pay $500 on Ultimate Teen card and $7.95 using other methods.

    • Nope.

      Two problems:

      1. There is no way you can do split payments between an Ultimate gift card and another payment method on the Officeworks website. For example, you cannot use an Officeworks gift card or Coles Group & Myer gift card to pay for the difference, because neither Officeworks gift cards nor Coles Group & Myer gift cards are redeemable on the Officeworks website. (I mention this, because some other participating retailers on the Ultimate gift card scheme - e.g. JB Hi-Fi, The Good Guys - would let you redeem 1x JB Hi-Fi / The Good Guys gift card in conjunction with 1x Ultimate gift card on their website.)

      2. Officeworks’ policy is that you cannot use any kinds of gift cards (including Ultimate gift cards) to purchase any gift cards sold at Officeworks. Someone messaged me a few weeks ago saying that their Officeworks online orders for various gift cards paid for with Ultimate gift cards have consistently been cancelled in recent times, so even if there was a way to do split payments, Officeworks may end up cancelling the order, anyway.

      • But if it's in the digital wallet they can't really tell right? Unless they block based on BIN?

        • Staff can tell if they ask (or demand) to see the type of card you are going to use before allowing you to tap your mobile wallet. Considering how much I have noticed Officeworks tightening up their stance on purchasing gift cards since Christmas, you are more likely to run into a staff member who will ask you to do this.

Also, good luck with trying to get a staff member to let you do split payments when purchasing a gift card. The last time I tried (at the start of this year), the staff member told me “absolutely not” when I asked (and when you think about it, asking to do split payments is a strong indication you may want to use a gift card as a payment method).

I’m not saying it is impossible to pull this off, but it definitely is not as straightforward as it once used to be.

I actually do not know whether Officeworks block gift cards based on BIN, because I have not actually purchased a gift card from Officeworks for two months now (and probably will not bother doing again, based on my last couple of experiences doing this).
