From prior Reward Gateway deals -
Here are some of the most common questions that tend to pop up on Reward Gateway deals (and many thanks to WookieMonster and Chazzozz):

What is Reward Gateway?
Reward Gateway is an employee program that gives you access to discounted eGift cards and cashback across a large range of retailers.

Can I sign up to Reward Gateway if my employer doesn't participate or I'm self-employed?
Yes, API Lifestyle & Leisure offer casual memberships for $9.75 per month, and is available to anyone. However, if you choose to sign up for API Lifestyle & Leisure, please note access may not be granted instantly.

How do I access Reward Gateway?
Your employer needs to be subscribed to this program before you can apply to access the program. Once you are given access, you can log into Reward Gateway through the dedicated website for your company, or The SmartSpending app on Apple iOS and Android devices.

What is the transaction fee?
Transaction fees will vary depending on the type of card used to complete the transaction. Previous information provided by their support team is as follows:

  • Mastercard or Visa debit card: 0%
  • Standard Mastercard or Visa credit card: 0%
  • Premium / Platinum Mastercard or Visa credit card: 0.5%
  • Standard AMEX card: 1.5%
  • Premium AMEX card: 3%

Having said that, Reward Gateway has in the past charged a 0% surcharge for some premium / platinum credit cards (e.g. Westpac Altitude Platinum, Citi Prestige, CommBank Platinum Awards).

Can I use prepaid gift cards (e.g. Vanilla Visa gift cards) as a payment method?
Reward Gateway officially requires all debit, credit and prepaid cards being used on their platform to support 3-D Secure. Prepaid gift cards do not support 3-D Secure, so they may be blocked by the payment processor.

However, if you use a prepaid gift card via Apple Pay on the SmartSpending iOS app, it should bypass any 3-D Secure checks.

Are there any issues having a VPN active whilst using the SmartSpending app?
There have been reports where the 3-D Secure challenge on the SmartSpending iOS app will get stuck if a VPN is active. The workaround is to disable the VPN whilst making any purchases.

What denominations of eGift cards are available through Reward Gateway?
The gift card in this deal allows you to choose any whole dollar amount between $5 and $4999 inclusive. However, purchases of over $1000 are likely be split across multiple gift cards.

How are the eGift cards delivered?
Electronically. Either print them from your account or use the SmartSpending app to display them on a mobile device.

Where can I use the eGift cards?
The gift cards in this deal can only be used at the brand on the gift card (in-store or online), although further restrictions may apply (e.g. a maximum of three gift cards can be redeemed in one online transaction).

Is there a limit on the number of eGift cards I can buy?
Rewards Gateway will allow you to purchase up to the maximum amount (i.e. $4999) on your first transaction each day, but as fraud protection on your account, the system will limit further transactions to only $300 for that day.

  • Can the supercheap card be used on tyres?

    • +1

"1. Please note that the Instant eGift Cards are not redeemable on tyre purchases or any services supplied by outbound partners."

Well done OP, you beat me to it by 15 minutes!

BTW, this should stack with the Supercheap Auto 15% off Linkt promotion, too. I'll have to test it out later.

    • +2

the Linkt promotion also worked with a price-match funnily enough - so you can probably stack it higher.

      • This is The Way.

  • Online Mastercard from Coles worked for me without 3D secure

    • Yes this works. Vanilla doesn't

    • Not work for me. Zip payment not working too

used my last SCA egift card at BCF, so I don't think you need to be too selective.
Interesting that the Super Retail Group cards still show as 10% at checkout but 15% on search page. I have pointed this out to them before but falls on deaf ears. 🤷‍♂️

    • Ugh…so many times I find the RG web site littered with expired or incorrect deal information. Whatever it says on the retailer's landing page should always be treated as definitive. I, too, have queried it with them and the answer is always, "Oops…sorry about that, but we're still friends, right?"

    • Macpac isn't listed as part of this and might be why. definitely weird though

    • Yes i've noticed this too and not the first time.

  • how do you know if you have a premium card or not? seems sketchy

    • you'll find out at checkout.

      • well yes but what are they using to determine what constitutes a premium card? Doubt the card number would inform them

        • The payment processor can check the BIN (bank identification number) within the card number provided at the checkout, as they can look that up to see the card type (e.g. credit, debit) and card level (e.g. standard, prepaid, platinum).

          • @WookieMonster: The oracle speaks!!

I get they can tell the difference between credit and debit etc but i didnt realise there was an official demarkation between standard and premium CCs

    • Using Apple Pay via the app (with the quick checkout button) avoids the premium card fee FYI

  • Do the gift cards work with price matched products? Specifically at Rebel?

  • Save 15‌% off RRP at Supercheap Auto when you shop online.*
