Stack with this deal to get around ~19.54% discount for $100 Apple gift cards or ~14.78% discount for $100 Amazon gift cards returned in rewards points

    Apple gift cards: $100 + $5 purchase fee = $105 - ~$10.52 (equivalent to 2k bonus Flybuys points) = $94.48 - ~$10 (equivalent to 20x Everyday Rewards points) = 1-($84.48/$105) x 100% = ~19.54%

    Amazon gift cards: $100 + $5 purchase fee = $105 - ~$10.52 (equivalent to 2k bonus Flybuys points) = $94.48 - ~$5 (equivalent to 10x Everyday Rewards points) = 1-($89.48/$105) x 100% = ~14.78%

    Hopefully my maths is correct

    • I think you should be dividing the $84.48 and $89.48 by $100 as that is the value of the Coles gift card. The $5 activation fee is foregone as soon as the purchase is made - doesn't really have value. But it is past midnight and I'm very tired, so might be wrong

      • True but you still have to take $5 out of your wallet. It’s still an additional cost and I’ve taken that into the calculation

        • Yeh definitely two ways to look at it. Your calculation is based on the cost paid, but I personally wouldn't value the activation fee as anything after it's been paid. You're paying out of pocket $105 to get $110.50 value ($100 gc + 2100 flybuys points)

          1 - (110.50/105) x 100 = 4.98%

Then you buy the apple/Amazon gc and will receive a further $10/$5 off

          • @nicholasv: Ugh idk now, my brain hurts lol. Will rethink tomorrow morning

            • +4

@nicholasv: Yeh you’re right lol, I shouldn’t be including the $5 in the final calculation. I was double counting it, shouldn’t be doing maths at night

              So it should be:

              • $100 Apple gift cards: 1-($84.48/$100) x 100% = ~15.52%
              • $100 Amazon gift cards: 1-($89.48/$100) x 100% = ~10.52%
              • +1

@BargainsGrabber: Yeh those % sound more accurate. Was a team effort at to work that out after midnight 😂

              • +1

@BargainsGrabber: Now I need another $99 000 of Google cards with discount to be able to be tier 1 in Diablo Immortal !!

          • @nicholasv: and you’re not getting it “off”

        • +2

Technically, you are paying $105 for: $100 Amazon credit + $10.52 in Flybuys points + $5 in Everyday Rewards points = $115.52 in value. I'd say the points can't be subtracted from the out-of-pocket cost because it's not cash, it's credit at Coles/WW.
          So 1 - (105 / 115.52) = 9.1% discount

    • I tired getting ultimate eats cards with my Coles MasterCard gift card and it wouldnt let me. U tried a few times. Are you sure this will work?

      • +1

YMMW. @WookieMonster did say that some Woolies have informed staff to say no to gift cards stacking.

I haven’t exactly tested it out to buy Ultimate or TCN at my local Coles using the Prepaid Mastercards, only been using Coles gift card to buy another type of gift cards (didn’t work when trying to purchase the Prepaid Mastercards)

My local Woolies was still allowing when I did it in June this year when I used the Coles Mastercard from the 10% off deal

Hopefully that makes sense. Did you try and use your Coles Mastercard to purchase the Ultimate Eats online from online retailers like Giftz?

        • I tired at the self checkout. Then after trying a few time the staff tried to help and they took me to a normal checkout and it still didn't work. Haven't tried online though.

          • @Meenas: Did you tell staff you wanted to redeem a card or gift card?

            • @WookieMonster: Yes we tried that. She said maybe because you can’t use gift cards to purchase gift cards that’s why it’s not working. I keep insisting it’s like any other Mastercard lol

              • @Meenas: That sounds strange.

I used Coles Mastercard gift cards to purchase gift cards at Woolworths and BIG W in-store within the last couple of months and it worked fine. You just need to choose Card (or Card (Split Payment), if you have insufficient balance) at the checkout, swipe the card (just like any other card with a magstripe), enter the PIN (if you want to set one or have one) and press Enter.

For future reference, if the EFTPOS terminal screen shows the NFC symbol, you (or the checkout operator) have selected the correct payment type. However, if the EFTPOS terminal says “Enter eGift Card number or swipe gift card” (or something along those lines), you (or the checkout operator) have selected the Gift Card payment type (which is the wrong payment type).

AFAIK, Woolworths and BIG W do not implement BIN checks on Coles Mastercard gift cards. They implement BIN checks on some other prepaid gift cards (e.g. some EFTPOS gift cards, OnlyONE Visa gift cards), but the Coles Mastercard gift cards are so new that Woolworths Group probably haven’t even considered doing that yet…

    • Sorry kinda new to this. Can you elaborate what is the $5 Purchase fee? Do I need to pay $105 if i am to buy a $100 apple GC from Big W?

      • +2

$5 purchase fees come from when buying the $100 prepaid Mastercard from Coles :)

          Thanks mate :)

if you go to a different BIG W store and purchase different denominations of gift cards.

Only if you can actually find a store nearby with stress-free parking.
I've stopped going to BigW because there is none left within my 10km radius.
and for those further away, it takes ages to find a parking, 30 minutes searching only for 2-3 hour free parking…

In contrast, there are 3-4 Kmart nearby…

    • Limit of 10 apple gift cards, so you could get $5000 worth by only visiting one Big W (10 x $500 gc). But yes I agree, Big W is few and far between now

    • Are your Big W's standalone stores? Every big w I've been to in WA is always part of a shopping complex

    • It could be worse.

For example, if you live in Launceston, the nearest BIG W is in Hobart, which about a 2.5 hour (200km) drive. I doubt anyone would want to drive that far for an in-store only deal…

  • you probably can't use everyday rewards dollar to buy these, can you?

Does anyone know why there isn't Back-to-school education promotion with free AirPods this time of the year?

    • +4

Because we don't go back to school in Australia in August.

If you wait until January, you should see a back to school promotion from Apple. For reference, here's a link to this year's promotion in Australia.

      • Thanks… Promotion only runs in January, not July. Was waiting for it during July never came;(

Buying gift cards staking with Coles master card is probably the best deal at the moment.

  • Anyone know how big the Amazon gift cards get? Cant see the $5.95 card fee to be worth it unless you can get a $200 or more sized card.

    • $5.95 card fee? Where are you seeing that? Amazon gift cards are no card purchase fees.

I was at BIG W over the weekend and I think I remember seeing the variable load denomination ($30-$500). The BIG W catalogue also shows a picture of the $30-$500 denomination, so I'd assume BIG W stores should have this in stock.

      • +1

Oh awesome! I was thinking all gift cards had a extra fee if you wanted an actual card, i know the last few i got did (not Amazon)

        Thanks for the info!

        • +1

Ahhh the only gift cards sold at Australian brick and mortar retailers that come with purchase fees are prepaid EFTPOS, Visa or Mastercard gift cards that are not restricted to a short list of merchants, including:

          • Westfield EFTPOS gift cards
          • Coles Mastercard gift cards
          • OnlyONE Visa gift cards - you'll see some OnlyONE Visa gift cards with no purchase fee, but those are restricted to specific merchant categories
          • TCN EFTPOS gift cards - you'll see some TCN EFTPOS gift cards with no purchase fee, but those are restricted to specific merchant categories
          • Vanilla Visa gift cards
          • Perfect EFTPOS gift cards

Btw, I checked BIG W earlier today for Amazon gift cards, and I saw both the fixed $50 denomination and the variable load $30-$500 denomination.

  • So we could purchase the Visa Cards at 10x the rewards points than use the Visa card to purchase Woolies Wish cards for 4.5% off?

    • Where are you looking to purchase the WISH gift cards from?

      • redeemyourgiftcard via Australian Retirement Trust.

        • Redeem Your Gift Card only accepts bank transfer as a payment method, so you cannot use any cards to pay for gift cards on that platform.

  • So I need to pay 3400$ either in the apple education store or amazon or office work. So what should be my plan like? Where do I start? coles? And then bigW(i think I have woollies reward card). I can go to any of these physical stores if needed. Even apple store. I would prefer a cash discount rather than these flybys and all these points. I was planning to stack it up with my new credit card cash back but cc may take around 10 days so going without it for now. Thanks in advance.

    • If you prefer a cash discount over FB or ER points you'll have to wait for an offer like this one which happened a little while ago: https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/714908. Apple Gift Card discounts / bonuses that don't involve points don't happen too often.

  • SO if you get the variable load amazon gift card, you can do 5x $500 = $2500?

    • In theory, yes.

In practice, it depends on whether staff will let you do this in one transaction. Generally speaking, wanting to spend that much on gift cards in one transaction will require approval from a store manager or duty manager. I'm not saying it's impossible, but there are a couple more hoops to be mindful of. If you have to do it in separate transactions during this deal, that is fine.

      • +1

Further to this, you may be given a speel by a staff member or manager checking that you're not about to fall victim to a scam and that the gift cards are for yourself and that you're fully aware and understand what you are purchasing. I've increasingly had this happen to me whilst taking advantage of Apple Gift Card offers.

Another tip is to use the staffed register next to the service desk instead of self serve or a regular staffed checkout further from the desk, as more senior staff tend to float around the service desk.

  • Haven't done a gift card deal before, do I have this correct?

If I buy $2,600 worth of apple gift cards, this means I'll get 2,600x20 reward points = 52,000 points.

2000 points = $10 in reward dollars or 1,000 QFF points so I can choose between:

    • $260 rewards dollars
      OR
    • 26,000 QFF points
    • If I buy $2,600 worth of apple gift cards, this means I'll get 2,600x20 reward points = 52,000 points.

Correct, as long as you only purchase a maximum of ten Apple gift cards across this deal.1

Just keep in mind that some staff will make sure you’re not falling victim to a scam or something along those lines if you’re looking to purchase $2,600 worth of gift cards, so be prepared for that. If you find that staff will not sell you any more than $1,500 in Apple gift cards in one go (as an example), it is okay to come back later and purchase more gift cards in another transaction, as this deal does not specify any transaction limits during the period of this deal.

2000 points = $10 in reward dollars or 1,000 QFF points so I can choose between $260 rewards dollars OR 26,000 QFF points

      Sort of.

If your rewards option at the time of purchasing the Apple gift cards is set to Money Off Shopping or Bank For Christmas, your 52,000 Everyday Rewards points will be automatically converted into $260 in Everyday Rewards Dollars. If you change your redemption option later to Qantas Points, all Everyday Rewards Dollars on your account will be converted into Qantas points at the rate of $10 Everyday Rewards = 1,000 Qantas points, and this cannot be reversed.

If your rewards option at the time of purchasing the Apple gift cards is set to Qantas Points, your 52,000 Everyday Rewards points will be automatically converted into 26,000 Qantas points and this cannot be reversed.

      1. I know that my deal description includes a link to someone stating it is possible to go to another store and purchase different denominations and exceed the ten gift card limit, but for the sake of simplicity, let’s try to stick to a maximum of ten Apple gift cards.

      • For the Money Off Shopping option, say I have $200 in Everyday Rewards dollars.

Can I use all $200 in a single shop, or does it only take off $10 per transaction, meaning I'd need to spend 20 times to claim the full $200 Everyday Rewards dollars?

        • You can choose whether to redeem Everyday Rewards Dollars in an eligible transaction and the amount to redeem, but you'll need to redeem them in lots of $10.

For example, if you purchase $208 worth of groceries in your next shop at Woolworths, you can choose to redeem $0, $200 or any other multiple of $10 in between $0 and $200 in Everyday Rewards Dollars in that transaction.

  • I have some Wish giftcard, can i use Wish giftcard to buy Amazon gift card at BigW ?

    • +1

I’m fairly sure the answer is no.

      • It is against the terms and conditions of any Woolworths Group gift cards (including WISH gift cards) to use them to pay for gift cards.

      • If you swipe, enter or scan a Woolworths Group gift card into the EFTPOS terminal, the EFTPOS terminal will return an Item Not Allowed error. (I last tried this about a year ago. Feel free to give it a go though… the worst that will happen is that it will not work and you’ll get a lecture from staff members telling you that you cannot use gift cards to purchase gift cards.)

      • If you try to use Everyday Pay to purchase gift cards, you’ll get Item Not Allowed error messages on the EFTPOS terminal, as you cannot use Everyday Pay to pay for gift cards.

      • +2

Thank you, yes a month ago i tried Wish giftcard to buy gift card from Woolworth i saw the error " Item Not Allowed, Item Not Allowed" error

This morning i went to Bigw to buy Amazon gc and tried with Coles $100 master giftcard, it is work just need to put some random pin :D

        • +2

Just another reference point, a Woolworths eGift card couldn't be used to buy a Woolworths starter sim pack.

  • How to add apple GC to apple account?

I had quite some fun today trying to stack up the Coles Mastercard offer and this one.. The POS system hung for about 10 mins and a bunch of bigW reps concluded that it was because I was using a credit instrument (Coles Mastercard) to buy another credit instrument (apple gift card) and that was no possible to process by their systems.
After two POS systems went unresponsive on swiping my card, they did not let me try again.. Was hard talking to them and I realised I probably knew more about POS systems that these folks and left sad and frustrated.
