Was looking at current Sony price drop on last years X90K series. Was about to purchase from TGG ebay store with $120 coupon, but found it to be cheaper to buy from Sony direct with 10% cashrewards which will expire in 2 days as Sony currently providing free shipping for orders over $200.

Not sure whether the current price drop at Sony is permanent or temporary as still see some other places selling for higher.

The Sony is the far superior unit.

  • Depending on how quick you want it, Sony can be slow to delivery. I’ve ordered from good guys ebay twice and each time it was in the house within 48hrs.

    • +2

Can't tell if you're saying 48 hrs was quick or slow.

      • +4

        He's saying

Sony can be slow to delivery

However, in contrast to that he has

ordered from good guys ebay twice and each time it was in the house within 48hrs

I ordered the 65" about a month ago from Sony.com.au in a prior deal. It took 2 weeks and alot of hassling to get it delivered (to Melbourne eastern suburbs). Wasn't impressed with that, but the TV is excellent. (I only bought it from sony.com.au to utlise CR and they also offered "free delivery" at the time)

      • Which model ?

        • +1

          X90K

          • @atwilliams: Thanks. How's your experience so far. Does it look ok in a well lit room ?

            • +3

@life is suffering: It's performing very well and overall I am pleased with it (even noting the annoyances below). I actually viewed the X90K, the X95K (mini LED) and the A90J (OLED) before selecting the X90K, as the differences (IMHO) weren't enough to warrant the significant extra cost for everyday use.

I have it set-up in what would probably be considered a slightly darker room (natural light-wise) and at 90 degrees to the windows which are ~3 metres away. Given this, colours are rich and blacks super dark. No lag or motion blur. I have used a range of different inputs, including 4K streamed content, PS5 etc, and it's quick to change between inputs. TV makes the best of whatever you can provide!

A few things to be aware of:
              1) The sound quality is below what I was expecting and sounds abit "echo-y" through the built-in speakers - not an issue if using a sound bar
              2) There is no picture-in-picture mode, or ability to display more than one input in a "split screen" mode, which is annoying.
              3) There are only 2 HDMI v2.1 ports (one of which is used for eARC/ARC), and 2 "other" HDMI ports, which means you have to prioritise your inputs, which is also annoying - why not all 4 HDMI v2.1?
              4) I personally don't like the Sony 2022 TV remote control - it's too simple, particularly if you are trying to control other input sources. For example, there are no fast forward or rewind buttons, yet plenty of space to have them. Yes, you can control other inputs, but it's convoluted for everyday use.

              • @atwilliams: Thanks for the detailed reply!

I'm in the same boat. Looking at them side by side it's obvious that the OLED is better, but is it $thousands_of_dollars better? Not IMO.
I don't actually watch much TV so spending big isn't worth it for me. At $1395 it's a no-brainer. I might pop down to JB tomorrow for a price match as they will be easier to deal with than Sony

      • After how many days your CR was tracked?
Its been 4 days now and still haven't received my confirmation even though it showed that the CR offer is activated on desktop. And also it shows in my click history if CR but not tracked till now.

        • +1

Mine was tracked the same day (got the 12% CR @ sony.com.au), but still not paid out. Can be "up to 95 days" apparently.

          • @atwilliams: Mine didn't tracked. Called sony to cancel the order and thy said it will be escaled to Manager to cancel and it might take few days to get response but then this deal might not be there.🤦🏽🤦🏽😩😩
            Don't know why it didn't tracked🤷‍♂️

            • @Be Happy: How did you place the order? If it was via a browser, then the tracking can be very temperamental, particularly if you have an ad-blocker active. General advice is to use the CR app, or if you must use a browser, make sure all ad-blockers are off before visiting the site. It is annoying when the tracking doesn't work. It's caught me out a few times.

        • +1

Mine tracked same day. It is better to use Cashrewards App. I never had any issue with tracking when I use the App. Before when I used their website there are instances where it doesn’t get track.

        • Been 1 day now for me and still no tracking. Placed order via CR app and met all conditions, so this has me worried as wouldn't have purchased without the 10% off

          • @mexicancowboy: Same here bought on Sat , still not showing up.

          • @mexicancowboy: My bro in same boat. Bought on Monday via the app and delivered Friday. Still no. tracking. Hes getting annoyed.

            • @Baconpod: I just submitted a missing tracking claim to cash rewards. Hopefully they sort it out. Mine didn't track either….

              • @slosh: I also sent the claim. Still nothing. Have you heard back from them?

                • @Rogaor: No, still heard nothing yet… You?

                  • @slosh: Approved today, now I have to wait for 95 days.

  • Wish they would offer the X90K 85" on special

    • Good guys eBay store offering it for $2798, less if you’ve got gift cards or similar.

    • With CR, it comes to $2650.50 which I believe is the best price ever for the XR85X90K. The OP should add this in.

Last best price was $2755.40 with CR from Sony and a couple of months ago the best price was $3756.

Personally, at this rate, I'm holding out for something closer to the $2400 mark. I may head into GG and see if I can haggle a deal close to this.

      • 85" needs to start dropping further

  • I Don't recommend buying lG TV…I bought QNED 91 ..it's very slow, has no Anti Reflection coating and everytime I turn tv on it goes to TV channel mode. So frustrated has already listed on eBay for sale.

      What's an IG TV?

      edit: Oh, it's LG.

      • +1

        Instagram TV 👍

        • That's what pops up in google, so I asked :)

    • LG

  • Is it the same XR75X90K that was over 60% more than this price 5 months ago and it was quite a deal?

Actually, it was $3295 Delivered + Bonus $500 eGift Card), so closer to 33% more back then. But still!

    • During BF sale period, lowest was around $2100 after CR n gift card

      • Not sure if we got negged because it's untrue or because somebody had 2 negs to give today.

        • Oh well. it’s definitely true bse I bought it , $2795-$500 gc offer by Sony-$250 CR cashback that comes $2050

  • GoodGuys have it for the same price if you wanted to get it instore- https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/sony-65-inches-bravia-xr-full…

    • But you dont get 10% cashrewards

  • This or mini led?

    • I mean, if you can get the Sony x95k (mini led) for similar, go for it.

    • Obviously Mini LED is better than FALD given the higher zone count.

    • +2

Good Mini LED TVs tend to be close to OLED prices from what I've seen. I'd take OLED over Mini LED around the same price. I've heard TCL Mini LED are pretty good but hard to find reliable reviews for the Aussie models. I'm a big fan of Sony colours and motion processing in general (and on this TV) so its hard to beat at this price.

      • +2

Yeah the Sony mini LED seems ridiculously expensive, right up there with the OLED’s.

There is so much hype around TCL’s but I’ve now seen them in multiple home setups and am no impressed at all. They have a Scientology like following and their owners will not offer or tolerate a single negative comment about them. They are faultless and “almost as good as OLED for half the price” and “I don’t see any motion blur”.

  • f**, I bought nearly 2K last year

    • Consumer electronics have plummeted in price much more than they ever have in prior years.

  • So so so tempting! Wow the prices are insane…

Does this have 4 HDMI ports all capable of 4K/120?

    • -1

how many xboxes do you have?

      • -1

Future proofing. Just trying to work out what 2.1 ports it has.

        • -1

          4

        • +1

          2 HDMI 2.1 ports.

    • +1

Only 2 ports support 4k/120 VRR and one of it is Arc/earc too. So take that into consideration. It's the limitation of the chipset. I think it will be the same for this year model too.

If you want 4 ports of 4k/120. I think you have to go for LG and Samsung.

      • Selecting 4k/120 VRR also locks you in game mode/out of Dolby vision. Hasn't really caused me any issues as I just use the input setup that way for PS5 gaming but its worth noting. Great TV for mixed use though, Dolby vision is great (noticeable improvement in streaming apps vs HDR10 even upconverted old stuff look nice in vision), really nice for gaming and the black levels are really nice (didn't see what rtings were on about in their review).

    • It only has 2 HDMI 2.1 ports (required for 4K/120) + 2 "other" HDMI ports (not sure what spec they are). One of those 2.1 ports is also used as the eARC/ARC port. This is abit restrictive in my view. All 4 ports should have been HDMI 2.1

  • anyone bought this and paid by the Coles Mastercard Gift cards (currently 10% off) ?

  • +2

Very tempted for the 75. Wish me luck this weekend as I try convince the wife

    • +3

Good luck to both of us 😂

      • +2

        Me too 😁

  • Does cashrewards still apply if my Sony account is a Sony X account?

    • Sony X ?

    • +1

On the Cashrewards conditions Sony X excluded.

“Cashback is also ineligible for Sony X Members, Alpha Pro Support, Student and Educator program members, and Service Centres.”

      • Will make a new account. Thanks.

  • How is X90K vs LG NanoCell?

    • +2

X90K is a VA panel and NanoCell is IPS as I understand it. Much better blacks with VA.

  • +1

Great TV at a great price, about $500 cheaper than when I bought and I'm super happy with mine.

    • You notice any blooming around sharp/bright objects or text/subtitles?
      Rtings review highlights this issue

      • +3

I saw that in the review from Rtings but then used medium local diming like I had used on my previous Sony and HDTVtest recommends and its not something I've noticed. Maybe coming from reviewing OLEDs all the time it would be more visible. I upgraded from an X90E and the difference when it comes to subtitles its pretty huge (something I did notice with the E). Wife is watching something in the lounge with the shutters closed at the moment, not the darkest room but this pic is a pretty good indication of what blooming there is if any:

I convinced a family member to buy one. He was looking at the Hisense u8h but preferred the more natural colours from the sony.

    • +6

Good move, Hisense seem to treat Australian's like mugs selling inferior TV's under the same model numbers of the ones getting great reviews overseas.

      • +1

Yeah I hadn’t thought about that. I just said that the Sonys were a cracking price, linked the ad, and he should go and have a look. 30min later I get a phone call and I’m told they have bought a new tv haha

    • Great move, Hisense is almost as bad as TCL.

  • This or TCL C835?
Need to pick up 2 x 65”s for a mate and there’s quite a few options this Easter long weekend

    • This or TCL C835?

It seems to be a common question. To me they are very similar and looking at them in store it's hard to tell the difference. Mini-Led is better on paper than FALD, but Sony has a better reputation than TCL, so it's 50:50 for me. I'm going to buy one or the other tomorrow so I'll probably toss a coin. At this stage I'm leaning Sony simply because if all else is equal, the name will tip the balance.

    • -1

Get the TCL! I’ve had both. Was quite disappointed in the X90K. I found the viewing angle horrible on the Sony and the blooming just as bad. The TCL is almost better in every way. Only thing lacking is the sound, but a decent soundbar will fix that. The TCL also comes with a 3yr warranty compared to 1 with Sony. For the price the TCL is a fantastic tv.

    • Don’t get the TCL - especially if you watch any sport. If it were half the price of the Sony - then it would deserve to be considered, when they’re similar - it’s a no brainer.

If you watch mostly cartoons, they’ll look good on the TCL.

Don’t listen to any warranty rubbish, they are both covered for the same amount of time under ACL.

  • Was about to pay at HN when i saw this. Don’t mind waiting for 10% and delivery

  • How this compare to S95?

    • You’re comparing apples with oranges.
The S95 is a far superior unit.

I have this TV and both Foxtel Now and Kayo are unable to be downloaded due to software limitations. I plugged In an Apple TV to mitigate the issue. My parents have the same TV at their house and I discovered they have the same issue.

    Pretty pathetic for a 2022 model TV…

    • I got the 75X90K yesterday at JB ($1896.20 with EASTER5 and $575 in JB gift cards), not sure about Foxtel Now, but I have had no issues with Kayo at all. Have you updated everything?

Kayo app doesn't support Split View in this version of the app for some reason so I have to go back to my Apple TV for that so I can get my 4 streams of the Masters golf at once. One thing the Sony Kayo app has over the ATV is that it is truly full screen, not gimped with the small black bars around all content on ATV

I did have software gremlins with initial wifi setup (needed to reboot Deco M5 mesh wifi) and the software remote in Google Home wouldn't work as the Android TV Remote Service app on the TV would not update (ended up fixing by factory reset).

      • Borders on ATV app? 4 streams?

        • Kayo AppleTV app got an update about a year ago, and the streams now have a small border around them, ie. do not go to the full size of the TV anymore. Kayo website and Kayo AppleTV app both have the split view feature where you can view multiple streams at once, so during the Masters golf where there are multiple channels I can watch them all at the same time. The Kayo Android app on Bravia TVs do not have split view, but the stream does go to the edge of the screen with no borders.

    • +1

I have this TV and both Foxtel Now and Kayo are unable to be downloaded due to software limitations.

What are you talking about? The Sony runs Google TV which supports both Kayo and Foxtel Now as well as anything else in the Play store.

    • Complete rubbish, all of those apps work fine.

  • All the people complaining about only 2x 2.1 ports… are their games consoles also wall mounted and difficult to get to the hdmi cable to disconnect to connect to another console or what?

  • If it wasn't for the L series apparently having up to 30% brighter as well as having gaming features I'd on this like white on rice. Does anyone know if price drops of this magnitude happen every year when new models start appearing or does it seem like the drop is bigger this time around?

    • There’s no guarantee you’ll see prices like this every year as it ultimately depends on how overstocked retailers are.

      • thanks. my impression was that it was slightly more than the usual

  • Went and looked at one of these in jb today, is it just me or are they pretty mediocre?

  • X90L is around the corner and it looks physically a lot better with a metal rim and improvements to quality, I would skip X90K.

    • +1

That's what has me on the fence. It's just that the price drop is hard to ignore.

    • You have to wait another 8-12 for decent discount. Agreed it's better though

      • +2

Yup and then X90M will be around the corner and may be better than the X90L.
