Sony have opened up applications for their surprisingly somewhat-exclusive club, Sony X.

This is NOT targeted, anybody can join. The memberships are not always available to join, I’ve had my account for two or three years and have not seen it available to sign up again since. It has been a while since I signed up, comments here are indicating that the membership is NOT guaranteed. I suppose it might qualify for the forums on that front.

Membership provides you with discounts on most products on the Sony Online Store.

Sony X is sometimes mentioned in comments on Sony Bargains, and at free to join, you’ve really got nothing to lose.

I also should mention, from time to time, they host exclusive hands-on parties for new product launches and preview, which include free food and drink. I have never attended due to living in the sticks, but I do know OzBargain love some free grub.

Just a friendly reminder / heads up :-/

X'ers posting up their exclusive offers in public sites like OzBargain etc. is against the Sony X terms of membership.

X'er offers / events are not available to people outside of the team so posting these notices could create more hostility than benefit for those on the forums that aren't X'ers.

    So can everyone join? Or do you have to wait for Sony to deem you worthy of being accepted. It started asking for how many followers I had in all these social media platforms, so I'm thinking I shouldn't waste my time as I don't use them much at all.

    I applied. I suspect I don't have enough social media accounts or followers to be of any interest to Sony, but we'll see…

    Edit: Interestingly, the confirmation email for my application came from Sony New Zealand!

      This is spam, you take their survey for data mining, you get a confirmation email from Sony NZ, you wait a few weeks for them to confirm your account, but no deals come up… Why did this get so many votes up??

        I bought my Walkman from an exclusive Sony X deal. Needless to say the price was more than excellent for the top of the range ZX1.

      I definitely think this was worth posting but the description was misleading. Many people wouldn't have bothered applying (or upvoting, for that matter), had the OP made it clear that the link is to the conditional application, rather than the usual sign up process.

      This is NOT targeted, anybody can join.

      This is actually a very false statement. Should have said "anyone can apply to join".

    I agree there is no bargain here…. now - but it's in the planning. When SonyX (yes I'm a member) have their end of FY yearly sales and products nights, the prices are AWESOME!

    So do yourself a favour, sign up. Read the emails and deals and when the time comes, you'll be ready for the deals.

    When there were no PS VR headsets, we had option to buy em. On products nites on release of new product, we had option to buy em cheap.

    It's in the planning.

    Thanks. Already a member but wasn’t aware they had the WH1000XM2 for $299. Been looking at those and the Bowers and Wilkins PX and $299 is a fantastic price.

    I think JB has them at $450.

    I've been a member for a few years now.

    There's been some really good deals in there and I've bought quite a number of items - especially when the product is new and there's no other sales around yet. Sometimes when there's public sales, the prices are better than what's offered to SonyX members.

    The only thing I don't like is the lack of update on their prices. A product may have been released quite some time ago (talking many months to years), but the price on the website is still the RRP at the release date. So while the SonyX discount is still there, the product can be bought for much cheaper elsewhere. (But, hey, membership is free and there's benefits to be had, so I shouldn't be complaining!)

    My advice is, if you get the opportunity to be a member, then sign up! They rarely open up the applications!

      The only thing I don't like is the lack of update on their prices.       The same can be said about their public site, and even their eBay store. I don't think it's limited to Sony though - the RRP for a product is usually set at launch and is rarely updated.

      The reason they don't bother updating it is because the emphasis of the 'X' appears to be on getting the social media influencers to spread the help spread the word about the new product when it's launched. I actually suspect that these discounts are subsidised from their sales & marketing budget. Once the product is no longer new, it's no longer a priority for them to update the pricing to compete with their own public sales.

      You could offer to meet them at the Castle Towers or Parramatta Sony kiosk. (You can get Sony X discounts at the kiosks as long as you can show them you're entitled to that discount i.e. logging into your account in front of them)

    interestingly OzBargain gets a special mention in point 10 of the T&C's:

    The Sony Store account and login details provided to each Sony X member is for the sole use of that member only. Sharing prices or specials on sites like OzBargain is strictly prohibited. Login information and/or details must not be passed on, sold, or transferred to any third party under any circumstances. On-sell of products purchased via your Sony Store login, misuse of a Sony Store account, or failure to comply with this term will result in the immediate termination of your Sony X membership forever (sorry no second chances on this one).

    We need to create a new account with Sony using this email address. But what if I already have a Sony account registered with to this email address? It's pretty bad that they haven't considered this possibility. I can't be the only one in this situation…
