Can I purchase gift cards in Woolworths store with this Coles Mastercard gift card?

        • +2

The checkout let me do that when I last tried a couple of weeks ago, but I have no idea if it is still the case right now.

Keep in mind that if a staff member sees you trying to use a prepaid gift card (including a Coles Mastercard gift card) as a payment method for a gift card and they care enough to stop you, they can. I have been told by a couple of Woolworths duty managers that customers cannot use any prepaid gift cards to purchase any gift cards in their stores… although it sounds like the policy their stores were following, rather than a company-wide policy.

          • @WookieMonster: As I understand it - and it goes with Coles too, nationwide - it's that you can't officially purchase any gift card using a gift card, these prepaid cards included. The checkout system used to automatically stop you but now for some reason they don't most/some of the time.

        • +1

2 wks ago I purchased physical Myer gift cards at Woolies using Coles Mastercard.
Purchased at in-person checkout (not self checkout)
          It defs worked then

        • I was able to buy 5 of the $50 ultimate teens cards from woolworths using a $250 prepaid card. Maybe I got lucky, it was pretty busy so staff didn't look carefully enough at what payment method i was using.
I would have preferred to buy 10 using two 250 cards, but I was worried doing a split payment would mess up the system somehow.

          • +1

@Musabbir99: I was able to buy some $500 Ultimate Home cards at WW on the weekend with 2x $250 Vanilla Visa gift cards. I did split payments on self serve and also via register and there was no issues using them. I expect it would be similar for the Coles Mastercards.

I lost 100 bucks to tiktok because of these cards. Hackers used tiktok to get the money out. No way to get the money back.

    • +1

What? How is it the cards fault.

      • +2

the cards are notoriously easy to 'guess' the numbers

        • I noticed the cards I got have the last 7 digits very different + different 3-digit CVVs, although expiry the same. Is this 7 + 3 combination really that easy to guess?

    • You can call the number on the back of the card and raise a dispute then it take up to 90days for the to send you a new card.

      • Have you actually been successful in calling them?
If so what time did you call them at?
I tried 2 weeks straight, it rings for hours & no one answers ever XD

        • Yes, called them 3 times, all getting through to a real person, lodging a claim, waiting a couple of days, an email arrived.

    • +1

I'm also in dispute of 4 unauthorized tiktok transactions in mid-Jan23 totaling $90.
It's been over 60 days so my dispute will likely be rejected.
Like others have advised - only buy if you intend to use immediately otherwise it's not worth the risk.

      • What… "titfok transactions"??

      • Will they reject your claim?

    • -1

Hackers used tiktok to get the money out.

      How? Hackers in titfok??

  • +1

Time to pay off some HECS again 😌

    • How do you pay off HECS with this!!

      • +8

There are two ways you can do this.

        • If you log into the ATO portal via myGov (or log into your ATO account via the ATO mobile app), view your loan account and scroll past all the transactions on your account to the bottom of the page where you can see an option to make a voluntary repayment. Keep in mind you can redeem a maximum of 5 cards per day through the ATO portal.

        • If you go to the Government EasyPay portal, you can enter the Payment Reference Number (which can be found on the ATO portal when you select BPAY instead of card as the payment method for voluntary repayments), then enter the rest of the details to complete payment. Keep in mind you can redeem a maximum of 5 cards per day through the Government EasyPay portal.

One last thing… keep in mind that the ATO could be blacklisted at any time. The gift card owner (InComm) and/or the gift card issuer (Heritage Bank) blocked the ATO as a merchant on 02 Nov 2022, but this was reversed after an OzBargainer lodged a complaint with AFCA.

        • +6

Just a note here. After the last national version of this deal in October 2022 we determined that it's 5 cards per 12 hours. So between the ATO portal and EasyPay portal you can clear 20 cards per day. Given each $250 card pays $249.50 + 50c in surcharges you can clear $4990 of debt per 24 hours.

          • +2

@daanish: Ahhh I forgot about the 12 hour thing. Thanks for the correction!

          • @daanish: … for $4626, i.e. $364 (= 7.3%) off?

          • @daanish: Yikes! I just used around 10 gift cards to pay off HECS via the ATO portal. Didn't seem to run into any issues at the time but do you know what would happen if you did more than 5 cards per 12 hours?

            • +1

@mw0xyz: If you hit the transaction limit, which seems to be a variable number by recent comments, you'll just get a payment declined/cannot be processed error.

        • +1

Just confirming that payments to the ATO via the myGov portal are still working as of this morning. Just starting paying off some debts as I collect the cards.

        • +1

I have been doing 10 ATO payments at Mygov and then more 12 hours later.

  • Can i use flybuy dollar to purchas?

    • @Rajat1k
Can i use flybuy dollar to purchas?

Maybe but definitely NOT at self service
I read some checkout staff can do it.

I wouldn't do it when busy as less likely to help in my experience.

  • seems like every state having this deal except vic?

    • VIC/TAS had a 10% off Vanilla Visa gift card deal in September 2022, so arguably they already had a state-specific gift card deal.

To be fair, NSW/ACT has now had two state-specific gift card deals…

Maybe VIC/TAS will be later this month or next month? Who knows.

  • -1

$4.50/$6.50 activation?? Wut?! What's the deal?? 5% off??!

    • The deal is for a 10% discount on the purchase price of $100 and $250 Coles Mastercard gift cards.

      After doing the sums…

      • You will only need to pay $94.50 for a $100 Coles Mastercard gift card, which equates to a 5.5% discount on the gift card’s face value.

      • You will only need to pay $231.30 for a $250 Coles Mastercard gift card, which equates to a 7.48% discount on the gift card’s face value.

      • -1

Is that a deal?? A deal is getting BigW gift cards at 15% and swapping them for WISH cards to pay for groceries at Woolies.

        • +1

To a lot of people, it is a deal, including me. But hey, each to their own.

A deal is getting BigW gift cards at 15% and swapping them for WISH cards to pay for groceries at Woolies.

That is all well and good, but last time I checked, you can purchase WISH gift cards at a discount everyday. However, it is unusual to be able to purchase gift cards at a reasonable(ish) discount that can be used to pay for a lot of utilities, health insurance, ATO debts, meals at cafes and bars, parking etc etc etc… in other words, a lot of people are using Coles Mastercard gift cards to pay for goods and services that cannot be paid for using WISH gift cards.

The only real effort to obtain gift cards in this deal is to actually go to a Coles store (or maybe a few) and purchase the gift cards. No need to mess around with elaborate schemes or running the risk of being banned from a BIG W store… and additionally, the last two occasions I returned products at BIG W paid for with BIG W gift cards (and it was due to them being faulty, rather than a change of mind), I was issued Returns gift cards.

          • -1

            @WookieMonster:

can be used to pay for a lot of utilities, health insurance, ATO debts, meals at cafes and bars, parking etc etc etc…

Aha! Hadn't realised this is a generic gift card — more like a prepaid debit card, actually — not a Coles gift card per se. Glad I asked. Thanks for spelling it out (perhaps title and/or description need spelling out too).

        • Is this for realz you can do that?
          Where can you swap? =O

        • -1

are you saying you can buy a BigW egift card and use that to purchase another WISH gift from Big W ? i didnt think you can buy a giftcard with a giftcard. Do they allow this instore at BigW ?

      • Hi Wookie. do u know how to check the balance of the card, cause the website they ask me the access code and i have no idea what is access code.
I check on gg is said its the code when they activate the card, when u bought it. But the thing is like on the receipt just show 9 digits not 6 digits of the activation code.

P.s: do you know how long the card gonna be hacked. I will pay my bill in 1 week later. not sure its still safe within a week or 2 weeks later ^^
        Thank mate

        • +1

You need to go to https://www.mybalancenow.com/ and check your balance there. Make sure the language is set to AU English (and that is shown in the top right-hand corner of the webpage).

You will see a different URL on the bottom right-hand corner of the gift card's back, but that URL will redirect you to the one I gave above.

If any non QLDers would like there flybuys card scanned - I have a friend who would love to help you out!

    • What's the advantage to using someone else's Flybuys account compared to just grabbing a few of the temporary paper slips from near the registers?

      • @daanish The friend gets the Flybuys points. These Coles MC earn Flybuys points. Don't know if there is an advantage to you though. You are better off registering a new Flybuys account. May take 24 hours to process for the 10% off

        • Useful to make multiple 5x purchases with multiple flybuys within a day

        • Is there an easy way to redeem these flybuy points though? Surely need to sign up to an account and muck around transferring / using the points?

  • +1

I can confirm that it's a hard limit of 5 cards per Flybuys account. Tried to grab a few more this morning and the discount wasn't applied after the initial 5 cards.

I have not yet tested to see if the non-registered temporary Flybuys slips or a subsidiary family member card linked to the same account still apply the discount. Might try it when I next go through.

    • +3

Can confirm the temp FB card is not working.

      • -1

Interesting. The temporary paper flybuys cards worked in Sydney few weeks ago for the discount.

        • +2

That was because that deal allowed any Flybuys card to be used for that deal. There was no requirement in that deal for the Flybuys card to be actually registered, unlike this deal.

        • I have a feeling one of the other advantages of doing the promo state by state is that they can close each loophole as it's found, or they realised that people are just using the temp slips and someone in marketing recognised that there's enough people who will register an extra account or two (or more) and they can effectively buy that customer data for very cheap and spam it with advertising.

    • +1

Subsidiary family member linked to same account is part of the same account, still max of 5 cards

      • I tried a linked card today just for the sake of it and they have correctly hard limited the linked cards on accounts. So definitely only possible with 1 card from a shared account per day.

    • Buy again the next day.?

      • +1

        Yes, 5 cards per day

    • @daanish
So is it 5 per day per account or 5 per account for the whole time of the promotion

      • +1

5 per day per registered account.

  • Does this increase spend requirements for flybuy point bonus points later on?

    • +1

I bought last week in WA. My spend increased by $40 this week and bonus decreased slightly.
Spend $150, get 2500 points. Previously was spend $110, get 2000 points. Not generous offers.
