So that’s one Apple GC only ?

    • so you can't buy 500 gift card and get 50 bucks off?

  • Are Coles and Woolworths MCC5411?
    Edit: Yes, found it here

    • what's the value you bought?

  • +4

Category Choice Groceries can be used in Costco and Asian Groceries

    • Costco have you tested it out? the MCC is 5300 and I thought groceries choice only work with 5411 5499

      • +2
        • that's awesome

we should add to the list

          • +5

@Poor Ass: The table in the deal description only lists the official MCCs permitted on the gift card, as per the Category Choice website.

A more accurate list would be the one maintained by GCDB, as that has both official and unofficial MCCs.

      • +1

Can also confirm it works. Just used one at Costco Ipswich.

  • Hcf rewards regularly have the Category Choice cards for 3% off.

    • +5

3% is their standard for Groceries & Fuel - Department Store currently 3% until Monday 24th March, along with Amazon 4%, Restaurant Choice 6%, amongst others on sale this month

  • how much value of GC, people are usually buying for 3% off groceries?

    • +3

if your spending the money anyway its still worth it.
You can however get 4% off wish cards if you have a woolies mobil or insurance product.
Also you can get 5% off if you have access to a seniors card
Wish can be used at The Everyday Rewards Shop in the Everyday Rewards App, Woolworths, BIG W, BWS, Dan Murphy’s and participating ALH Venues and EG Ampol fuel sites.
so if you spend $300 a week on groceries and fuel thats a saving of $780 a year which is still pretty good

      • Standard discount on Wish is 3% (for mobile customers).

        4% Woolworths Supermarket card.

      • Hey, is the 5% off for seniors open to VIC residents as well?

        • VIC Seniors Card, Seniors Business Discount Card and Carer Card holders can purchase Everyday WISH eGift Cards at 5% off everyday. I cannot see anything about this offer being any open to any other VIC residents.

You can read more about this offer here.

    • With these you can double dip. Buy these at 3% and then use these to buy other GC in person at 20x points etc as these are technically visa cards and will work.

      • Oh, so you can convert them to any other card you want?

        • +4

          Nearly always.

At Woolworths, you can use a Category Choice Groceries gift card to purchase most gift cards in-store (e.g. TCN Pub & Bar, Ultimate, Apple). However, Woolworths checkouts’ will automatically reject a Category Groceries gift card as a payment method if you are trying to purchase some gift cards (e.g. Everyday WISH gift card, Vanilla Mastercard gift card, Vanilla Visa gift card, Westfield eftpos gift card).

          • @WookieMonster: Firstly wanted to say thanks @WookieMonster for all your insights & sharings on the intricacies of the various gift cards out there.

Woolies aside, would you know if the above Category Groceries GC can be used to double dip & buy the Coles Prepaid Mastercard GC? Or are those a no go as well? Ta

            • @rajsez: It worked a few days ago when I did this at Coles, and it probably still works.

              • +1

                @WookieMonster: Thanks @WookieMonster 😊

              • @WookieMonster: Hey Wookie, just to confirm this process:

-Buy category choice from Amazon at 3% off
-Use category choice to buy any gift card from Coles?

                Thanks

              • @WookieMonster: Would a Category Choice Groceries gift card also work online to purchase a Coles Mastercard Digital $250/$100?

                • +1

@New Chump: I highly doubt it.

                  • The Coles Group gift card website should be assigned MCC 5399. That is an MCC not officially permitted on the gift card, plus I have not seen any reports of this gift card working at merchants using MCC 5399.

                  • The Coles Group gift card website generally rejects prepaid gift cards as a payment method.

  • How many times of purchase of $100 I can do for this promotion?

  • +4

Just purchased $100 Apple GC for the $10 promo, and Apple sent me 2 months free Apple TV membership which was a nice surprise.

    • -1

You know if Apple Id Balance can be used for in game purchases of Roblox?

      • I have no idea, sorry.

      • +1

yes if purchased on your i-device

    • +1

Got the same, I’ve never had to pay for Apple TV+ because of these deals, so that’s great.

Category Choice Groceries can be used to buy DoorDash gift cards on the Costco website for a total discount of 22.4% off.

How long does it take to receive category choice groceries? Page said within 5 minutes but I ordered at 8:48am and still haven't received any yet.

    • +1

I ordered last night but haven't received it yet.

      • +1

My card is not even charged but I didnt receive any cancellation email and order is still there.

      • I just got a call from 02 7228 1102. Despite she sounded really like scammer, it's legit amazon and my order got authorised and just received the gift cards now.

        • lol dont redeeeem itttt!!

    • It worked only one time when it asked me to confirm my card info. Then I tried another time and same as yours, card wasn't charged, order wasn't cancelled

  • Woolworths and Coles should have an Apple Gift Card website to generate codes like this one. I was a victim of an Apple Gift Card scam.

  • got $250 grocery. 3% is higher than most COLES GC i could get.

  • Dearest leader @WookieMonster, is it possible to double-dip this offer for groceries in any way? I understand you can't use categorychoice for Wish cards, but are there any other workarounds to get any further discount? I normally just load 4%-off Wish cards from BUPA into the Woolies app to ever-so-slightly stick it to the Woolworths overlords :/

    • I am doubtful.

      • None of the online gift card portals I know the MCC for (e.g. Card.Gift, Prezzee, HCF Thank You, Reward Gateway, Redeem Your Gift Card, Amazon AU) use an MCC listed in the table in the deal description above… other than ShopBack. ShopBack reportedly uses MCC 5311 (Department Stores) on a bunch of gift cards sold on their gift card portal (including Coles gift cards), but I have no idea if Blackhawk Network (the company that operates Category Choice gift cards) allows transactions at ShopBack on Category Choice gift cards.1

      • Even if you found an online gift card portal using the correct MCC, you would struggle to use a Category Choice gift card directly on most online gift card portals. Category Choice gift cards are really just prepaid Visa gift cards, which are unable to support security features a gift card portal usually relies on (e.g. 3-D Secure) to reduce their exposure to fraudulent transactions. Additionally, some gift card portals (e.g. Cashrewards) will outright block any cards reported by the relevant card network as a prepaid card.

      1. If I had to guess, I suspect Blackhawk Network has blocked transactions at ShopBack on Category Choice gift cards, because the gift card’s terms and conditions state you cannot use their gift cards to purchase more gift cards (and transactions at ShopBack are largely for purchasing gift cards). Blackhawk Network has done this for some of their other gift cards (e.g. Activ Visa) at some other gift card portals (e.g. Card.Gift, HCF Thank You).

      • +1

I cannot add the Department GC to Shopback as a payment method.

  • Normally buy it from wws with HSBC 2% cashback.

  • This 10$ credit is in the form of apple gift cards or amazon gift cards? Can someone confirm please

    • +1

      Neither.

The $10 you get for purchasing a $100 Apple gift card is in the form of Amazon promotional credit. This sits separately from the gift card balance on your Amazon account, can only be used towards purchases of eligible items shipped from and sold by Amazon AU, and expires on 18 March 2026. Additionally, redeeming Amazon promotional credit will invalidate any cashback you may otherwise earn when purchasing on Amazon via a cashback provider (e.g. TopCashback, Cashrewards, ShopBack).

      • +1

        Thanks mate

  • can someone confirm, its $10 for every $100 or just $10 if i purchase $500

    • +1

From the terms it looks like for one transaction that is a minimum of $100 you will get the $10 promotion. It doesn't mention anything about for every $100 amount so you could purchase a $500 card and it would still only give you $10.

      • Correct bought $1000 apples and got $10 which is so fantastic should have bought $2000 so the $10 is so worth it

  • Hi all. Can anyone confirm if they had any issue buying the above Category Grocery GC eg. Successfully placed an order but your card payment was NOT taken & the Amazon email (with GC) yet to be sent out?

I successfully ordered & received $70 Category Grocery GC at 2am. Received the email with GC within 5mins. However when I tried buying another $500 one at 11am, the order went through but payment yet to be taken even after 2hrs.

Anyone has any experience with the above scenario? Eg. Extra time required for verification due to large purchase size? All GCs are likely sold out?

    • I just got a call from 02 7228 1102. Despite she sounded really like scammer, it's legit amazon and my order got authorised and just received the gift cards now.

    • +1

same, if order not cancelled immediately, then it's mostly on "scheduled" - pending extra verification as of your feeling.
my first one $100 came in 5mins, 2nd $250 came after 4hrs. card would be charged once order processed with email.

guess they have huge of orders in queue :)

      • Appreciate both your sharings @RTY & @test8888 🙏🏻

    • I bought twice. First was $20 gc to test if it works at the asian grocery store. The email arrived in mins. Second was $300 gc. Took longer this time. About 1.5 days.

  • I bought last night but hasn't been sent to me yet

  • Can i use Amazon gift card to purchase Apple gift card on Amazon?

    • +1

      No.

On the checkout screen, you will get an error message saying you cannot use your gift card balance to pay for gift cards.

  • I have an Apple gift card purchased from giftcards.com.au but I am not able to check its balance, does anyone know how to check the balance on these cards? There is a serial no. when I click on the card details.

  • +1

If I buy a Category Choice Groceries gift card can I save it in my Woolworths account as a payment method?

  • Brought 4x Category Choice Groceries. First 2x entered my Apple Wallet no problem, second 2x cant get working.
Anyone else have problem with Apple Wallet?

  • Are SydneyTools and TotalTools MCC 5251?

  • +2

I have tested the MCC of the following stores online by using TCN Good Food card and the TCN app:

PC Case Gear and PLE Computers are 5045 Computers, Computer Peripheral Equipment, Software.

Centre Com, Scorptec, Umart are 5732 Electronic Sales

5732 should be eligible for Category Choice Department Store GC. Not sure if they accept it online and they might have different MCCs in store.

Tried it on PLE but sadly it is not 5732. Didn't try it on others.

    • +1

Thanks for testing this out. I have updated the MCC wiki with your findings.

      • +2

I can also confirm that Category Choice Department Store works with AliExpress, MCC 5311 Department store (but it cannot add to PayPal, has to use GC as payment card directly)

    • Centre Com in-store is 5045, so not eligible for Category Choice Department Stores

  • I tried using the Department Store GC via Amazon again, but it seems they have blocked it, and it no longer works on Amazon. It also doesn't work on Shopback.

    • +2

Looks like there's a difference between Category Choice Department Store and Zip Department Store even both are issued by blackhawk network
I was able to purchase Category Choice Groceries using Zip Department Store
but when I try to add Category Choice Department Store (bought in this deal) it got rejected by Amazon

Not sure whether Amazon is blocking any Category Choice Department Store
or only the GC that issued by Amazon (to block the loophole of using GC to purchase discounted GC)

      • tested with $100 same result.

what kind of regular Department Stores to convert this Category Choice Department Store card to any general GC ie. Coles/ebay etc.?

        • Myer should be assigned MCC 5311 (Department Stores) and they sell Coles Group & Myer gift cards (and Myer gift cards) in-store.

  • Is door dash like Uber and can you change the payment method after the order to a gift card?

  • I tried to use department store at bunnings toady but it failed.. couldn't figure out why cos Bunnings is listed as 5251 Hardware Stores here. I might go to kmart and see if i could buy some bunnings gc.

    • A few things to keep in mind with the Kmart route:

      • I have never seen Kmart sell Bunnings gift cards (and GCDB seems to agree).

      • Kmart should use an MCC not officially allowed on Category Choice Department Store gift cards (MCC 5310: Discount Stores).

      • There is a small chance Kmart’s checkouts will automatically reject Category Choice Department Store gift cards as a payment method for gift cards. Kmart’s checkouts are unable tell the difference between a Category Choice Department Store gift card and an Activ Visa gift card, and considering Kmart sells Activ Visa gift cards, Kmart may have chosen to enforce the Activ Visa gift card terms and conditions and configured their checkouts to stop Activ Visa gift cards from being used to purchase any gift cards. The only seller of Activ Visa gift cards that I know does this is EG Ampol, but I have no idea about Kmart…

Have you tried purchasing Bunnings gift cards from the Bunnings website? That should use MCC 5251, and it appears to go through a separate payment process from the rest of the Bunnings website.

      • Yeah. I didn't see it in kmart as well in my memory. I did try to buy things (not GC) from the Bunnings website and it's rejected again. The error is "There’s been a technical issue. Please try again. If the problem persists, try another payment method or contact your card issuer."

If Kmart doesn't accept this card, Myer/DJ/Big W seem to be the only places that would accept it. Then this card is completely trash

        • +1

Have you asked Blackhawk Network the reasons your Bunnings transactions were declined? Bunnings transactions should work on that gift card, and BHN should be able to see the response codes for the declined transactions.

I would attempt purchasing a gift card on the Bunnings website anyway, because I just did two test transactions on the Bunnings website (one for regular items, one for a gift card), and the payment gateway reported for each transaction was different. If it is Bunnings themselves rejecting the gift card in-store and on the website for regular items, there is a chance the same restriction does not apply to the section of the Bunnings website selling gift cards.

          • +1

@WookieMonster: OH WOW! Thanks WookieMonster! It works for the Bunnings GC. This is so interesting. My friend could pay in-store with the department bought from zip couple months ago. Still curious why Bunnings store accepted it before but not now.

            • @Kinoodle: Strangely, the Zip Department Store Visa gift card and the Category Choice Department Store gift card appear to have some differences.

For example, if you scroll up a few comments, you will see how someone else talked about the Zip Department Store Visa gift card working on Amazon AU, but the Category Choice Department Store gift card not working on Amazon AU. By extension, that means your friend can probably still use a Zip Department Store gift card at Bunnings in-store!
