After purchasing ~$4,000 worth of gift cards in the recent Vanilla Visa gift card deal, my weekly spend requirement went up from $240 in one shop to $300 in one shop.

There have been no grocery transactions above $50 on my Flybuys account this year, so that surely cannot be to blame…

    • Ignore my previous comment, I just got a Flybuys offer where I need to spend $380 in one shop each week for four weeks… and I still have not spent over $50 a week at Coles this year (other than on gift cards, of course).

I have never seen my spend requirement ever get that high!

      • My offer is "shop your way to 10,000 bonus points when you spend $240 in multiple transactions over the next 4 weeks (Thats equivalent to $60 a week). It says every shop counts towards your total spend

      • +1

Just received another offer: Spend $130 in one transaction each week for 4 weeks, collect 10,000 points OR spend $180 in one shop each week for 4 weeks, collect 20,000 points.
I was spending $110 each week. Will shop at Woolies for a while.

    • Yes.

My payment went through, but the activation failed and Coles staff cannot tell me what's going on. Waiting for a 'manager' for some time now.

Think twice if you don't want to get stuck

    • I used self check-out, but the same issue happened to another guy in the queue who used cashier's check-out

    • this happened to me.. payment went through but one of the cards was declined.

they need to exchange you with a new giftcard as the old one was declined/activation failed. (no one really knew what to do and had to wait for a manager).

used the replacement card with no issues.

  • anyone know if their local has stock around brisbane southside?

  • Grabbed some tonight and looked to be plenty of stock

    • Could you tell me which store it was, it you don't mind? I got 5 carss at 7am at Sunnybank Hills, but Browns Plains had none when I checked later.
I happened to be at Redbank Plains in the evening, but they only had $100 cards.

      • Heaps at sunnybank hills tonight. i grab 15 myself. i think theres about 50ish left of the $250.

Hyperdome shopping centre Coles had 100s and 250s

  • anyone tried linking to paypal?

    • +2

links to paypal with no issues at all.. however i don't think you can split payment with paypal. ie/ use multiple linked Paypal GC to pay, so i've had to find something that is the exact value of my GC.

it would be good to be able to pay off credit cards with this.. but i couldn't find a way.

Snipp is another method of cashing out these GC to Bpay invoices @ 0.85% fee, but wont let you pay a CC with a GC.

      • Paid for the Telstra bill and requested the overpayment as a cheque…

  • Thanks for sharing, do you know if I can use a normal coles gift card to pay for this?

    • I used a coles mastercard to buy a $250 shopback super swap gift card, swapped it for the coles gift card then used that to buy another coles mastercard gift card :) Shopback only allowed me to add 3 mastercards.

Thank for your the quick answer

No worries, I am in S.A. so I'm guessing it should be ok in Qld

@attalisie: I was able to spend a $500 Coles gift card to buy the MasterCards. The Coles crew were saying "it will not work but I can try if you want to", in the end it worked.

            • +1

@TechieARG: Yeah it used to not work, like pre-2020ish, the system would automatically block the payment method. Then around the time the new-new self checkouts started rolling out, something changed in the software.

            • @TechieARG: Awesome! I did mine at the self-serve checkout and selected gift card each time they walked off!

              • @attalisie: you mean you could pay full coles gift card using a Coles eGC on self serve ?
                without employee approval ?

                • +1

@USER DC: They needed to do something to the screen each time I scanned a card but when they walked off I would select gift card for payment and scanned my gift card on my phone. I paid for each card individually, so they had come and (I guess approve) each card.

Anyone know the limit for shopback spend in 24 hrs?

  • Do you earn any Flybuys points on these card purchases?

    • +1

      Yes

    • +2

You will earn 1x standard Flybuys point for every $1 you spend on these gift cards.

However, you will not any bonus Flybuys points from Flybuys offers that may be targeted to your Flybuys account, as those offers specifically exclude the purchase of any gift cards. For example, if you have a spend $50 in one transaction at Coles to earn 2,000 bonus Flybuys points offer on your account and you purchase a $250 Coles Mastercard gift card, you will not earn the 2,000 bonus Flybuys points.

Saturday update: No $250s at New Farm, Coorparoo Woollongabba or Fairfield.

Worthwhile updating where you have been and struck out to save time for others!

Anyone seen any large stockpiles around Brisbane?

    • +2

I just checked Coles Ashgrove. Plenty of 100s, no 250.

    • +1

I did a similar circuit, but swapped New Farm for Greenslopes. Also have heard from family about a few other locations.

Greenslopes, West End, The Barracks and Newmarket are also all out of $250s. I can't say I was looking too hard for any stock of $100s

Alderley had a few $250s and the various Coles in Ipswich tended to have pretty reasonable availability of $250s.

Last time this promo happened there was plenty at Coles Yarrabilba, so I was planning to check there today. I will try to update you if I end up going there.

Coles Hyperdome and Springwood don't have 250s. Springwood still had 100s from what I saw

  • I was at the 2 Coles in the BNE CBD yesterday and they were both out of the $250 ones as well

  • Has anyone used the cards on the ATO portal since about 07:30 this morning? My sister is paying her HECS debt but it was throwing up some errors. I'm not sure if the cards have been blocked again or she just can't count to 5.

    • Works. She need to change the payment amout to $249.50.

      • Yeah she knows that.

I think she was just trying to use a 6th card or was just inside the 12 hour lockout period. She was light on details and I haven't been able to get a hold of her to elaborate.

        • +1

I have personally found that the ATO website itself has worked shorter than a 12hr period, but when I tried government easy pay within the 12 hr period also it didn't work.

  • Cheers OP. Grabed 5 x $250. Noosa store had some left.

  • It is a saving of max 7% something, with the risk of being hacked. If we dont hv anything to immediately spend these cards, I think parking the fund on ING high interest saving account is not bad option for peace if mind.

  • +1

Government easypay remains a mystery.. Was just able to put through around 7-8 payments on it, however only 3 of them could be put to tax….. every single time I tried to put another through it errored, but when I tried to put them through my two other payment references (PAYG BAS / HECS) they went through fine and I was able to put even more through than the 5/12hr limit.

  • Is it possible to aggregate multiples of these cards into a single higher value gift card somewhere?
