  • What's the weight on this?

    • +1

      Starting at 1.24 kg

if the GPU can be another one(either 1650 or 3050), will be a good laptop

    • +2

This is a good laptop, it's just not a gaming laptop. I've had a T460s since 2016 which doesn't even have discrete graphics and it's one of the best purchases I've made.

      • I also have one.upgrade to 20GB ram recently

  • edit: Ah never mind, it doesn't start util 6pm

Code is not working for me

  • This or ideapad?https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/763162

Edit: the other one is 16". So should be for different market.

    • other one is ideapad not thinkpad, so is completely different market

    • Ideapads are dead to me.
Terrible machines compared to the Thinkpads

  • Wow! Great value for a mobile workstation. $1,157 after cashback, didn't think you can get a P series Thinkpad at this price point.

    • Also $230 lenovo rewards (if that’s really worth anything?!?).

Amazing specs for a good price. Overall a solid workstation with a bit extra capability.

Shame about the 1080p 60hz display. If it were touch, or 144hz, or qhd it would be an amazing package. Just one of them… But still nice!

    • +2

The main issue is these 45% gamut screens… Seems to be the spec no one cares about anymore.

      • Because they are quite regularly connected with an external monitor as primary display.

        • +1

$1299 will buy an awesome desktop compared to this, if your primary purpose is to connect it to an external monitor.

      • +1

I agree, and I recently put a much better N140HCG-GR2 panel in my 14'". Cost around $120 to do and was well worth it.

    • +1

16:10 is nice though. I at least really prefer that over 16:9 for productivity purposes.

  • Pretty good unit for the price, wish I was in the market.

  • is it worth it to add another $129 to get this model i7-1260P ?

  • Tempted but i dont use laptop that much.

  • +2

Thanks OP, this came at the perfect time. I was just in the market for a new laptop (or have been for the past month).

    • I'm with you. confirmed starting a new contract in a couple of weeks, new laptop required. Perfect timing!

  • +3

Thanks Ops. Got my cashrewards tracked for $155.88.

  • Has anyone used Cashrewards deal on edu store?

  • +3

Based on my observation, Thinkpad P serial is good but heavy machine. However, PXXs seems ALWAYS a lot cheaper than other P serial machines (w/t "s").
So I assume sub $ 1,500 is normal price for P14s probaly.

  • I am interested in this. Appreciate if someone can tell me the steps to get to $1,299. Cant seem to get this amount! Thanks.

    • once its in your cart, add the e-coupon 'B-GRABBERP14S'. should bring it to $1299.

  • +1

niceprice for a P series ThinkPad, but the screen doesn't do 100% sRGB.

EDU store has Ubuntu version of P14s AMD gen3 for $1069 and that at least can be customised to have a 100% sRGB panel for additional $240

I wish this deal was customisable or equipped with a better panel.

    • How do I register for an edu account? I tried my Latrobe edu account but it doesn't let me register

    • I just managed to get in. This deal has 3 year premier warranty, the edu one is 1 yr carry in.

      • yes, but worse screen here, and can't be upgraded. priorities I guess

        • +1

Bought this one. I mean the 45% is shocking and it's a bummer but considering coding/office tasks shouldn't be too bad (I hope).

The equivalent on the edu site is at least $500 more than price here when you consider ssd, and support.

The amd version only has soldered ram as well.

          • @butter: yes, for office use only it's fine. browsing websites where there's lots of nice gtaphics or photos you'll notice the diff

because your phone most likely is already 100% sRGB

      • you can upgrade the warranty later I believe

    • How come the EDU store has more options? I gotta get an EDU email just to get a decent screen on thinkpad

  • +1

Not sure about the thermals on the 12th gen Intel here, but I have the P14 Gen 2 with an 11th gen and it overheats big time. Aside from that it's a fairly decent little laptop

  • This comment on Lenovo's website turned me off….

Average performance from Lenovo Thinkpad P14s Gen3
Noisy fan when running programs and while attending online google meetings.
Memory in task manager process tab is consistently between 78% to 100%.
Sales team mentioned Gen3 will be best suited for my usage requirements before purchase.
Expected Lenovo Thinkpad P14s Gen3 Intel Core can cope up with running mid CPU intensive programs with few browsers kept open, but it's clearly not.
Way too pricey purchase from Lenovo.com.au for the output performance received from this laptop.

Good specs on paper but not in practice?

    • +1

For sustained workloads (encoding, compiling large programs etc), this isnt the right laptop (or any in this class).

Allocated memory always shows at close to 100% in Windows. It's normal.

I doubt the above comment, we'll see when it gets delivered but if it is like the comment, it's obviously faulty.

  • Seems like non-sale price price dropped compared with yesterday to $1399 - so OP's deal is $100 cheaper

  • I thought this one https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/763273 would be a better spec?
I know the built quality is different, but the higher processor and screen worth I think?

Anyone find the cancellation function don’t work after purchase?

  • +1

Thanks, OP, I got one TRS, code, cash back and reword. save a lot cheers!

  • Received my new Thinkpad today. For anyone interested, weight is 1.525kg.

Let's see how it performs… but for an IT consultant working from home mostly using remote desktop, i'm sure it's more than adequate.(my old X230i is still going strong - though never used for business).

    • I just use a Mac mini m2 16/256. very happy

  • I got mine today.

The screen is the least you need to worry about. This thing is loud! Especially when plugged in. It's shocking that they can release something like this in 2023.

Ive tried with w10 and w11 and it's just as bad. Checking online there many complaints about it as well. See here https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile-…

I'm just perplexed that this is normal behaviour! I used a Compaq in 2000 that was more quiet than this.. My son is using it sitting 4m away from me and I can hear it clearly. In fact, it's the first thing he noticed.

Very upset about this. Anyone else have the same problem?

I'm going to see if I can get lenovo to take it back for a full refund. This is absurd.

    • No such issue that i’ve noticed in general use. Fan noise did pickup during the W11 installation, but otherwise fine so far.

  • Full refund under way. It's so new that warranty hasn't engaged yet so we're getting that sorted first.

    • Aargh, warranty status updated with premier support meant that the csr looking after my case can't help.

In the mean time, I have installed tpfancontrol which significantly reduces noise in "smart mode"
