This isn't a bargain, it's actually $100 top much for what is a cheap, small by 2023 standards TV with now baseline resolution.

1 year warranty and I doubt the HDR claim is even close to the truth.

    Or am I missing something?

Psa: bought the bauhn 65inch android tv about 3 years ago. Powerboard just shat itself while watching tv (tv turned itself off and no standby led).
It was tricky to find anyone who'd actually fix it - most saying it's not worth it because it's a cheap tv ($800 back then).
Finally found an old mate fixing things in his garage. It's most likely just a ceramic fuse that's blown on the board - the part is $0.50 - labor costs will be $70.

For comparison - bought an LG full hd 32 inch and that thing has not missed a beat (except for LG not supporting the software anymore and it turning into a vegetable).

      • Have had 2 LG TVs in the house, one is over a decade old and used daily the other is probably not far off it. 100% agree with your statement, they're just imo out of date and the apps that came with it pretty much don't work anymore (like YouTube and ABC ivew on the newer one), so having a Chromecast/firestick is useful.

One other thing I'll add is I find the HDMI arc thing or whatever only works intermittently, it didn't always turn on the sound for the TV properly and my fire stick can't always change the input to itself. You can tell when it's like that as it no longer has an icon for the stick in the input list and just looks like a generic HDMI. It's always been a bit hit and miss in that regard for me. But yeah the TV itself hasn't missed a beat

      I have a 43" 4K TV in a bedroom and it's fine.

      • I have a small room, not sure if 40-50 inch tv would be too big?

Also the Tizen software lacks many apps.

Went to Aldi yesterday, quite a lot outdoor furniture, but I need the Sun lounge coming back again. The previous ones I had lasted for nearly three years under weather.

@[Deactivated]: This is false. Aldi (stylised as ALDI) is the common company brand name of two German multinational family-owned discount supermarket chains operating over 10,000 stores in 20 countries. The chain was founded by brothers Karl and Theo Albrecht in 1946, when they took over their mother's store in Essen. The business was split into two separate groups in 1960, that later became Aldi Nord, headquartered in Essen, and Aldi Süd, headquartered in Mülheim.

In 1962, they introduced the name Aldi (a syllabic abbreviation for Albrecht Diskont). In Germany, Aldi Nord and Aldi Süd have been financially and legally separate since 1966, although both divisions' names may appear as if they were a single enterprise with certain store brands or when negotiating with contractor companies. The formal business name of Aldi Nord is Aldi Einkauf GmbH & Co., while the formal business name of Aldi Süd is ALDI SÜD Dienstleistungs-SE & Co. Each company is owned and operated independently, but do have contractual business with one another.

      • With that price, I am happy with 3 years. They could definitely last longer if undercover. Mattblatt used to be good, but after acquired by kogan, it is the worst experience I have had. bought some furniture from them last year, they can’t last 1 year. Though under warranty, I was asked to return via AUSPOST. (Time to dissemble, find really big boxes…)

Bought Bauhn UHD a couple years ago. Never seen such a low quality TV, returned right away.

      This is powered by Samsung
      Maybe it’s a bit better

      • +5

The OS is Samsung software. Not the hardware. Aldi are actually being clearer about this this time. Wonder if they got in trouble previously when they tried to associate this junk with Samsung.

        • Ok, I thought the processor was Samsung (tizen), turns out it’s just the software?

    • Buys cheaply priced TV > surprised it's not top of the line quality.
Maybe you're the issue, not the TV.

Hasn't been that much more for name brands lately:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/tag/50inch

Given you can get a 55" LG for $695, I'd recommend spending the extra for a better quality set which will last you longer

I bought a 50” UHD from Aldi a couple of years ago. I absolutely hate it and it refuses to die. HDR is woeful, it’s impossible to calibrate properly and if you sit slightly off centre either horizontally or vertically you get a washed out image. Never again!

    • Angles..that's pretty much every VA panel symptom. Worse with a QLED filter .

    • Connect a Wii to it, it’ll be out of commission in a week.

Was in new Aldi in Willetton WA this week, tvs pilled up on the flat side, I suggested to staff this if not the way to store boxed tvs, all I got was a grunt!

I would not buy if they start this way!

Why anyone would buy anything other than food there is beyond me. Maybe they're just seeing crap everywhere else (Kmart, BigW, etc) so see no difference or point aiming a little higher.

I've seen recalls up for kids toys because they got caught importing them with LEAD PAINT (something like 30 years after everyone else got a clue), hardware like screws with heads that twist off BY HAND, pressure cookers with the worst pressure relief valve design possible (a plastic bellows much like the squeezy bulb of the ink dispenser in an inkjet refill kit) and which you'll never be able to get a replacement silicone gasket for (making it a 12 months then discard product when the seal goes hard), DimSum generators NO-ONE should buy from ANYWHERE for several reasons but perhaps the worst being excess oil usage meaning the saving in oil alone would soon equal the extra cost of buying a decent brand, musical instruments only a parent who HATES their own kids or wants to discourage them from the drugs/sexual diseases/toxic vapid personalities the entertainment industry creates would buy, food items in bulk that cost more per 100g/unit than the VERY SAME product elsewhere in the same store…

Buy right buy once. Buy Aldi buy 15 times (and probably return half of them in the warranty period). I've observed most people who buy stuff in the middle aisles are the type who fill their garage with junk then use it once every 20 years if at all. Many times it's not even any cheaper. After walking through Kmart I've walked into an Aldi and noted people going crazy over some "special buy" (is that because you must be a "special" person) that is only at Aldi for a few days, which is the same or higher price than one of the same poor quality but available at Kmart 24/7/365 which they've probably walked past a dozen times. People need to get some impulse control.

I bought an ice-cream maker there and it worked ONCE day 1, next morning refused to rotate (took hours to refreeze the bowl plus it made barely enough for a family of ants). I overheard a checkout guy tell another customer 4 out of every 10 electrical items get returned. Maybe he was exaggerating, but if anyone could achieve this dismal result it's Aldi. If only they could pinpoint which ones would be returned faulty, they could have a box for money as you enter the checkout, that spits it back out at the other end, then just SINK THE CONTAINER SHIP 10 miles out of China to save everyone's time/effort.

      • @Faulty P xel
I completely agree with the cost per 100g comment except many products now cost more per 100g when you compare with Colesworth. Rexona deodorant in a thinner can, for example is $1 more expensive than Colesworth when you compare the cost per 100g. The thinner can is exclusive to Aldi.
Talking of deodorant, Aldi's own brand's version (not Rexona) has a nozzle that clogs after a few sprays and running under hot water doesn't fix it. Another product I longer buy from Aldi.

      • +1

They had some decent mountain bikes in recent years as "special buys". Their annual motorcycle gear event was also popular here on OzB.

        Aldi has clearly hurt you.

        • Well citing a half-decent bicycle each store gets maybe 10 of a few times a year doesn't absolve them from the truckloads of hundreds of other crap products they foist upon us. Aldi hasn't "hurt" me, I hate seeing trusting people ripped off by the tonnes of low-quality garbage Aldi sells that is barely fit for its intended purpose (not for long anyway) which both wastes people's money and winds up as landfill years earlier than it should. Continuing to buy their poor quality crap encourages them to import more, and encourages the factories to produce lower and lower quality. Meanwhile manufacturers with some scruples who produce better products don't sell as many so they go bust, or have to charge more to stay in business.

People need to think more than one step or warranty period ahead. e.g. What's the point in buying the worst guitars I've ever seen in over 30 years if they're so bad they hinder you or your child learning to play (and they ARE/DO). Or what have you really "saved" by paying only $300 for a generator, only to spend that much again in oil AND find it's broken in a couple of years with no way to obtain parts or repair it, meaning you look at the higher price of something half-decent, think "I've already lost $300" so you buy another $300 one, probably built even worse because they got away with selling thousands of them last time. What's the point in non-stick cookware that is burnt by the third use.

          • @[Deactivated]: Sure, ALDI sell good stuff, decent stuff and not-so-good stuff. If it wasn't of merchantable quality, there's avenues consumers can pursue and we'd have heard of the recalls/deaths/safety outcries. A recent safety campaign has been on button cell batteries. That's ALL retailers.

I have an over-priced Jamie Oliver cookware set by Tefal. Snagged it free in the Productreview Ambassador scheme. The non-stick coating has failed or worn to various degrees across the three coated pieces in just a few years.
House and Peter's of Kensington (among others) sold this set, for around $400.

I have bought craptacular TVs from Kogan, JBs and Appliances Online. I bought a crap mountain bike from SCA. Most big retailers (particularly K-Mart, Target, SCA, Bunnings etc) import thousands of containers of future land-fill from China every year. BigW sell rebadged garbage TVs. So do Australia Post shops!
Given there's no law against such commercial ventures, why unfairly disadvantage ALDI?

So, refresh our memories on the sins of ALDI. Not just your opinion of sub-par non-stick cookware (hint, it's all shit, from everywhere) but SPECIFICALLY ALDI products.

Never before in the history of mankind have consumers had free access to resources to be well-informed before making a purchase. If these people wish to remain ignorant, or see value in what ALDI has to offer, good for them!

            • @Speckled Jim:

Given there's no law against such commercial ventures…

There should be. ;-p If I owned a business it would have to be food related, because I'd be ashamed to stock most of the crap Australian businesses sell.

              why unfairly disadvantage ALDI?

I'm not. The thread is about Aldi but yes, they all should be ashamed of themselves.

    • The entire Aldi experience is one I didn't go back a second time for, it beats me why you'd treat yourself so poorly by supporting them.

      • +1

Well the food is still food but much of it is the same, slightly more, or slightly lower in price now. (Their presence in the market has forced ColesWorths to lower prices to compete.) e.g. I buy their ham that comes in 4x separately sealed compartments but Coles has the same thing for the same price. Aldi Tempura nuggets are a bit cheaper than Coles. But last time I looked their chicken breast was more expensive.

So people would be doing themselves a huge favour by: a) tossing their catalogues in the bin without looking at them so they're not tempted to buy low quality crap, b) only buying from the two outer food aisles and freezer, and c) anything else like cookware, musical instruments, appliances, etc in the middle aisles - buy a brand name with half-decent quality. That higher quality and therefore extra life and better result they'll get will put them ahead even if they do pay too much for apples or tomatoes the few times a year Aldi is higher in price.

        • Don't buy meat/poultry from either of those 'markets'.

I used to work in a manufacturing facility where I injected 'brine' into most of it including the stuff that appears to be sliced from an animal with no more processing.

Go to a local butcher and weigh your product before abs after to see how much of that money is evaporating into your range hood.

          Take care my fellow countryman.

          • @[Deactivated]: Doesn't surprise me at all… it seems every business is determined to rip us off in some way. I hope I can afford to buy acreage one day, grow fruit & veg, rabbits, chickens, ducks, pigs, etc then most of them can go jump.

  • +1

You have to be realistic when buying one of these. I have the 43" version of this model - which Aldi have on clearance for $174.50 - and for the price, its a decent TV. It will never compare to even a medium range Samsung or LG.

Comparing it to other TVs in the price range - specifically JB Hifi's "Fflacon" TVs - its actually a lot better. Brightness is good, colours arent as washed out, sound is decent.

It has the Samsung TV OS which for the most part is smooth and quick. The way that they advertise the Samsung logo on the box is misleading, as if it were a Samsung panel or something. It isn't.

This would be a good TV for a kids room or garage.

    • Really, it is better than the FFALCON ones?

wow you found the 43" 4K clearance for 174.50, clearly a bargain! I can have a used 43" FHD TCL with GoogleTV for $100 from a friend, but I will go to Aldi tomorrow just to check if I can score a 43" on clearance.

      • I was in Aldi today and saw the 43" TV for $399. I wouldn't go near them. I bought myself a Hisense 43" TV last week for $440 on sale and am delighted with it.

      • +1

Yes. I had them side by side briefly - albeit the Fflacon was a 32 inch, 1080p model. The main difference was brightness, the Bauhn one was noticeably brighter and had less dark spots than the Ffalcon. Audio wise, they were both terrible in their own unique ways. The Bauhn was less tinny, so most people would probably prefer that.

And yes Aldi are currently clearing the 43" 4k one for $174.50, I can try to upload a photo for you if that helps

Edit: agree with Cyphar, wouldn't touch it for $399. You'd be better to spend the slight extra and go for a Hisense or better. At half price however, $174.50 - it becomes much more of a debate

        • Yes, unfortunately none were in my Aldi this morning, too bad. at 174 I would have took it.

  • Owned my 49" Aldi TV from this deal and its still going strong. FTA is hit or miss but streaming with a chromecast ive had no complaints. Speakers are crap but a soundbar fixes that.

  • Is this another rebadged LG?

I bought a rebadged LG from Aldi a few years ago and it looks awesome, and it's still going strong.

    • How can it be a rebadged LG. Why would they put Samsung Tizen software on a rebadged LG TV. So i don't think that this is a rebadged LG tv.

    • You seem confused by the TVs powered by webOS, that doesn’t make them LG.

      • Probably an LG panel, LG webOS.

But things like upscaling / motion processing would be missing.

    • Careful with the coupon code, that's your code

But also the Hisense is similar money:
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/144581141208

I'd go Hisense over Bauhn any day
