  • Preis: EUR 462,98
It's AUD $542 without trying checking out to find postage.. how does it become $505?

    • VAT deducted?

    • 17.5% Tax is taken off (462 Euro represents 117.5%). Postage is 40 Euro. Then put in the total in www.oanda.com and voila.

  • Cheap for an integrated auto maker.
But even a $99 machine has the same "15 bar" pump and a water tank. Tell us something interesting.
Krups get paid to put the water filter in, as a percentage of buyers will get replacement filters whether they need it or not.

I'm skeptical though. If a separate grinder and espresso machine is good enough for the professionals, it is good enough for me.

Well, mate if you are interested you might want to use Chrome or Google and read the whole site on it. Plenty of info there. I don't have the time to translate all of it. Sorry.

P.S.: With your argument you can dismiss laptops, tablets etc. as they all have a screen, touch function or a disk drive in the case of laptops. There is still differences in quality, whether the 15 bar is actually accomplished etc. Have you ever measured the pressure generated by $99 machines - it might say 15 bar in the manual but it is not even close to that. If interested, try to get some "Stiftung Warentest" reports on coffee makers and then use Chrome or Google to translate.

      • What they say looks good. e.g. Conical burr.

I'm not arguing that integrated is worse, just questioning the existence of arguments that they are better.
(Are you saying that portability is important? bad analogy otherwise.)
Especially in the low-end, where this machine is priced. As unlike with hifi, discrete components can be cheaper.

whether the 15 bar is actually accomplished etc.

What does it matter? I learnt in high school that pressure only affects reactions in gasses, not in liquids.
The advantage of a higher pressure pump is that you can use a pressurised basket to crate a fake crema, by squirting out the coffee. Real coffee snobs would avoid that.

  • 19 bars is what makes a machine worth spending this much on. Not 15

  • all good coffee snobs know that coffee is best extracted at 9 bars, pumps usually are 15 bar and overpressure valve is set to 9 bar for best extraction, 15 bar is need to force water through capsules and pods type machines.

Who'd have thought a few years ago we'd be ordering coffee machines from Germany for cheaper than we can get them here! No wonder Myer/DJ's/HN are in trouble …
