iPhone Battery Replacement $109 for All Models Prior to iPhone 14 (Increasing to $145 on March 1) @ Apple

3117

Call it a PSA or whatever - I don't really care where this belongs.

I had the battery on a couple of iphones changed today as the cost is still $109. The battery capacity was still 85% for both phones and Apple were insisting that I wait till the battery capacity hits 80%. I said I wanted them changed and saved myself $72.

The current out-of-warranty battery service fee will apply until the end of February 2023. Effective 1 March 2023, the out-of-warranty battery service fee will be increased by A$36 for all iPhone models prior to iPhone 14.

    Why is this a deal?

    • +72

more of a warning for people with old iphones

      • Yes, a reminder for people with old phones that still works and getting regular updates after 6 years.

It's hard to believe that the latest iOS16 is compatible with iPhone 8 released in 2017 isn't it?

Some phones with particular OS never last that long, can understand users of such phones don't have to deal with battery problems. :D

      • The independent repairers are going to love this

    • +114

Why complain about a post that people can be benefited/ helped? We want more posts from Dealbot.

        • +33

          Not a useful comment

        • What , did you expect it for free ?

          • @Murkymerv: Thanks to OP post. I went today thought price hasn’t increased yet. My battery is still above 80% but I am a heavy user and have extended applycare, they decided to replace it for free. Nice

        • +7

It IS a deal. A bargain is relative to the market. Or are you going to shit on every currently relatively cheap airfare deal because it’s higher than pre-covid prices?

That said, the OP should include a reminder to check your consumer law rights for free battery replacement, before you blindly hand over your money.

      • +4

Exactly. If you don't like it, just continue scrolling down to the next deal.

      Internet points

    • +6

      Proactive deal?

Like the precogs' warnings in Minority Report.

    • +2

If upcoming releases of movies on streaming services constitute a deal, this is also a deal

  • +4

I had the battery on a couple of iphones changed today as the cost is still $109

For a couple of eneloops and some biscoff I would have done it within an eBay bat for you DB!

    • -2

And it would last nearly 6 weeks before exploding :)

      • +9

Yes, its it's not Apple certified® it will explode, right?

        • Correct, just ask Louis

  • +8

Checked the price for iPhone 8 Plus is still $79 (same goes with, say, iPhone SE 3rd generation), so "$109 for All Models Prior to iPhone 14" seems inaccurate; but thanks for the heads up.

    • +1

Got my 8+ changed a week back. $79 going up to $115(?) next week.
My battery was on 82% at the time
Get in quick if you’re in a similar situation

      • Do you know if you were charged at time of booking or time of appointment?

        • At time of collection.
Saw this price rise flagged by someone on OzBargain (a post in the recent iPhone 12 mini deal) & decided to get in early

      • How long does it take to change the battery? I was booked in tomorrow for a new battery.

        • +2

          <1hour

        • can walk-in without appointment ?

          • @dcep: Nope, appointment is required for any repairs or service.

  • +6

    F@!#$! Inflation!

This is the world taking back all those stimmi checks everyone got during covid!

So essentially we all got JACK!

    • +13

Even worse for those who got no stimmi checks…

Business owners made bank out of it though…

      • +7

You mean a business that's Hardly Normal benefited from it?

    • +29

I think it's more of Apple being greedy than a response to inflation.
In fact, I'd think that Apple would do this EVEN WITHOUT INFLATION.
Probably trying to price customers out of repairs just so they go and buy a new phone instead.

      • +4

They should go and buy a new phone. Just not and Apple one

      • +1

So no other companies raise prices over X amount of time?

        • +1

Well, they aren’t Apple. It is judged by different standards.

    • +4

I didn't get any but I sure am paying for everyone who did, you are welcome!

    • +17

This is corporate greed not inflation

    • +19

I worked for accountant.! All business claimed so much stimmi cheques under their business, their partners and themselves and dump all those money to family trust .! Literally paid no tax.! Bought cars got low stamp duty. Wrote off those asses transferred into their private name.! people milked so much from government.! And guess what who is paying normal people working on tfn.! Liberals F@&Ked our country so badly.

      • +12

Yeah it was absolutely (profanity), but most Aussies supported it at the time. It should have been targeted stimulus, sure, the government shuts down your restaurant, absolutely help them out.

But so many businesses ended up having their best years ever during covid and got bulk government cheques on top.

I have a friend who is a small business owner, about 4 employees and they received 2 lots of 20k stimulus plus most of their employees wages paid for 6 months+ while their business was absolutely cranking. Total over 100k hand out.

Now we get to pay for it.

        • -1

          CBDC roll-out will fix this

    • +13

It's insane how the stimmi cheques kept going to businesses that were booming. Large car dealership group headquartered in my city (Brisbane) received $130m+ in jobkeeper payments, despite car sales going gangbusters. They were doing ~$100m a year in profits pre-pandemic, rose to $150m in 2020, and last couple years it's been ~$300m/year. Billionaire controlling shareholder banked large divvy cheques courtesy of Australian taxpayers. Makes no sense.

    • +5

No it has very little to do with stimulus actually. It's corporate profiteering like never before.

    • Corporate greed not really inflation. Most of supermarkets and banks are putting interest rate and prices up higher than inflation

    • This is taking the piss, not inflation. Surely Apple are not paying that much extra for staff or spare parts to justify such a large increase for a screen replacement.

    • +11

      You're comparing apples to oranges.

Apple supply genuine apple warranted batteries. Old mate in the suburbs charges nearly the same for an $11 yum cha special AliExpress battery that might last 6 weeks, might catch fire, etc

      • +7

Apple supply genuine apple warranted batteries.

Yeah, nah. Haven't had any issues from the dudes I go to. They even take a photo of the genuine Apple batteries. It's all from the same chinese factory. Don't act like Apple assemble their shit next to the factory that makes all their components.

        • +24

Don't act like the Chinese don't know how to screen print an exact copy onto a different product.

          • +4

@Daabido: +1 when I was doing iphone repairs the $20 "100% genuine never used apple certified" from Ebay/aliexpress looked identical to the factory installed ones. There is no chance they were genuine.

Hydralyte enjoy your run while it lasts. If you have an old $400 or less iphone may as well get them to do it. But if you have a more expensive one I'd go with Apple. At least with Apple doing it you know that if something goes wrong they will right it. Your neighbourhood bloke will one day claim there was an issue with your phone that wasn't cause by him and you will get a dead phone back.

              • +2

@Hydralyte: Yes I believe you. A lot of people might scam you saying it’s genuine when it’s not , doesn’t mean you cant find the right person to do it genuinely. But hey if not sure or worried then yeah, go to apple.

            • +1

@I like freestuff: chances are the "knock offs" actually came out from the same factory that makes the genuine ones. Those factories sell the batches that failed Apple's QC tests to a 3rd party and market them as "100% genuine never used apple certified".

        • +1

I wouldn't be taking a picture for gospel mate, China are specifically known for producing knock offs with worse quality control. The argument of "they all come from the same country" falls apart when you take into account the difference in quality control between the officially endorsed factory vs the knock off one next door.

Having had no issues is more of a luck thing than a testament to their reliability. I tried cheaping out once and the camera module ended up getting (profanity) so now it cant take pics with the main shooter, you get what you pay for.

      • +7

Come on bro, you're acting like all third party batteries will catch fire right away lol.
Apple is just making more money

    • +5

If there's one thing I've learnt never to skimp out on, it's batteries.

    • +4

Batteries from AliExpress (probably where these mobile phone repair shops get them from) can be so dodgy. I rather pay extra for a genuine battery with proper warranty.

      • +2

Definitely. I bought a second hand Se2020 for $100 before iPhone mini 12 deal came out. I replaced the batter for $80 and I am quite happy with the performance. OEM battery is different from a cheap aftermarket knockoffs.

        • How are you finding the battery life on the 12mini? How does it compare to the se2020?

    • +1

Chinese tech wizz from the suburbs will change it for you for <$100

Will these folks give you a like for like brand new device from the replacement stock if your phone fails to boot up after the battery swap???

      • They offer 3 months warranty.

I've been doing battery replacements for 20+ years. I'm fine lol

    • Those Chinese tech wizz you mention will not only replace your battery for a “genuine” one, but also swipe a number of your iPhones components, replacing them with “genuine” ones without your knowledge.

    • +2

      Agents of APple.

So you must have an Android iPhone then?

Wait you don't, you just spent $120 getting the battery on your iPhone charged!

Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

      • Talk about the pot calling the kettle black.

Do I look like I'm parading Apple all over ozbargain?

I have 2 phones FYI, Android and ios

  • Do they still do iPhone 6 battery replacements? Doesn't seem to be an option on the website

    • No they don’t

    • +2

I changed mine myself, wasn't that difficult
      https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/iPhone+6+Battery+Replacement/29…

Got a "Crazy iPhone 6 replacement battery and repair kit" for $22.95
(just $2.95 after I used some eBay voucher)

      House did not burn down.

      • +2

The older generation apple devices were easy to take apart. Nowadays with all the waterproofing and stuff, its not worth the same to do it.

        • Yes but the iPhone 6 hasn't changed. ;-)
I hear you though, I've been wanting to upgrade my HDD to SSD in my 5K iMac for almost a decade, but I'm still terrified of breaking the screen.

          • @muncan: I felt the same until I upgraded to a 2tb SSD in mine. I didn't use the temp sensor kit, just plugged the Samsung SSD in and re-installed. It's been running for over a year and I have 24gig RAM. If you break it a 5k iMac is reasonably priced on the second hand market. I'll be upgrading to a Mac Studio later this year though because I'm losing ground on apps needing a newer operating system. (Using Big Sur now)

Anyway, just wanted to say, you can do it! I believe in you (Unless you break it of course) ;)

            • +1

@6828: Thank you for the, er, confidence boost 😐👍

      • 🤞

      • “ House did not burn down.”
        But your pants will.. eventually

    • Download the Apple Support, log in your apple id, you can book for it, only $79

    • Did a 6S battery replacement recently at a Apple Store.

      • How much? How long did it take?
Cannot decide whether to spend $71 for a seven year old phone.

        • +1

It was $79, took about an hour. It's a perfectly functional phone otherwise (and in pristine condition) which is why we decided to get a new battery.

  • +7

why do ppl get so upset about Apple posts

      • +4

        Be still

      • +1

Yeah cause Apple really need that ozbargain advertising to keep ‘em afloat… <rolls eyes>

    • Usual crap , is against them !

  • +3

    Not a deal

    • -2

      Neither is your comment..

      • This coming from someone who's never posted a deal in their life is rich…

  • +16

    bargain
    /ˈbɑːɡ(ɪ)n/
a thing bought or offered for sale much more cheaply than is usual or expected.

This is the usual price. Future price increases are not today's bargains

    • +4

Just think of it as a deal which expires in a couple of days. Why so much hate in this thread lol.

      • +11

How is their comment hate? It’s accurate. Just because it goes against your opinion doesn’t make it hate.

        • +4

Sadly, everything opposite is HATE according to today's 'pOsITiVe VIbEs' era

          • +1

@nikoris: Depression and Suicide at highs, birth rate reducing, economic recession on the rise, house prices are absurd as ever.
            STAY POSITIVE!

      • +5

Because ITS NOT a deal that expires in a couple of days

    • The deal is you save $36
