Wow 42C2 cheaper than 34" OLED monitors

    • They have plenty of similarities but the QD-OLED monitors are also different.

  • +7

Waiting for the 42" to hit the $1200ish mark again. Don't know how much longer I can hold out for.

    • OZBgainer never hold. Buy first, think later.

    • Time to pull the trigger…

      • I did today haha. Cheers

Every time there is a sale on the C2 I get so close to buying one for WFH, but I’m just too scared the text won’t be crisp enough, or I’ll burn it in with an IDE.

    • +3

It's ok, go ahead and buy it. Fonzie would.

    • +1

Don't stress about burn in, my c9 55' is going strong after 3 years of being a monitor. I've even put it on my desk for a laugh and the text side of things works great in 4k, but the viewing angle isn't great when my desk is only 48' wide and about a foot and a half deep.

    • +2

I use mine for work, honestly haven't had any text issues so unsure why anyone mentions it at all.

    • LG replace all burnt in panels for free in Australia anyway

care to explain this vs 70inch sharp that a while ago? i thought bigger is better? at least that is what my gf said

    • Oled vs 4k uhd

    • You are not ozbargainer sejati

  • My mate got a 48" OLED last year and said it's too big for pretty much anything on PC. Worried that the 42" will still be too big. Anyone tried using the 42" for gaming on PC?

    • 42" is very popular size for a desktop gaming setup, look on YouTube and you'll find plenty of high quality videos that will give you a good idea of what to expect.

42" is probably the biggest reasonable size for a normal computer desk, anything bigger than that and you'll definitely need either a MUCH bigger desk, or you'll need a dedicated stand or separate cabinet of some sort to place the TV on, in order to achieve sufficient viewing distance from your eyes. Having the TV too close is a no-go, there's no way you can adjust to that, it's a pretty miserable experience.

I place my 55" Sony TV on two side-by-side IKEA KALLAX 2x2 shelves, behind my actual computer desk. It's an extreme example but it works really well, I absolutely love it.

Yes and it’s beautiful. Felt like a red pill experience coming from a 27” LED monitor. Best to pair with a 30XX series or newer GPU which has HDMI 2.1 ports to get the full 4K 120hz experience.

    • +1

42” is a good size. Works best if you’ve got at least 70cm viewing distance from it. I reckon 60cm is still a bit close.

    • I have been using one since November and cant recommend. I am running a deep desk but trying to play high level FPS things definately takes a bit of getting used too. Also finding im getting motion sickness which hasn't been an issue up till now. My eyes are around 65cm from the screen when im gaming and for reference I dont get ill in VR nor in my simrig which I sit 52cm from the G9.

For reference I have no regrets its absolutely beautiful but just things to consider.

I went from a 34 inch ultrawide to a 42" C2 as a monitor for both productivity on a macbook and gaming on a PC. The extra vertical space is fantastic for productivity (programming) and while I did notice the difference in text rendering initially, there are some cleartext tweaks you can do to minimise the issues in Windows, and now I don't even notice any difference (and I have 2 regular monitors either side of it). It is absolutely awesome and I can recommend it wholeheartedly, as long as you aren't too close to the monitor (my face is about 80-85cm from the screen). 75cm or closer would be too close imo.

      • Hey @drogog do you have it wall mounted behind your desk or a deep desk? I'm kinda curious as I use a 34" for dev life but could do with more 🥲

        • +1

I have got it mounted, but straight off the desk using this mount here: https://www.amazon.com.au/Suptek-MD6802-z/dp/B01LPVM1ZE/ref=…. The other 24 inch monitors either side are on F100A mounts (which are great).

The desk is an omnidesk which is 76cm deep, and with this mount the front of the screen sits 12cm in front of the back edge of the desk and with a 27cm gap between the table and the bottom of the monitor. It's big, don't get me wrong, but it gives what feels like almost double the vertical space of actual code once you subtract the space from the top of VSCode and the terminal/log output window at the bottom. PM me if you want a picture of the setup.

@jimmoods: Try again, your settings have messages blocked too

        • +2

I went from the 34inch to 42 and found that because the stand is a lot shallower you could push it back an extra 50mm anyway

      • What cleartext tweaks did you do. Please share links :)

    • I've got the 48" and agree that it'd be too big to sit on the table in front of you (it's got a big block foot thing on the rear for balance), which is why I wall-mounted it. Keeps my desk clear and it's far enough away to be fine as a regular monitor. I reckon if you're getting either one, it's best to desk or wall mount it or desk-mount it just so it isn't having to sit so close. That being said, I've had 4k 27" monitors, 34" ultrawide monitors, but none have been as good to use as my 48" C1. I love it.

    • Ya. 42 is beautiful and I paid like 2K for it. F

  • My 39.5 inch Dick Smith TV I got for $250 7 years ago is still going strong. Otherwise I'd so get the 42inch for my room lol

  • man :(

literally ordered my 42 c2 from appliance central on monday.

has anyone had any luck with price guarantee/credits from retailers like this when this happens? hasn't even arrived at my house yet -_-

  • +1

Price matched at JB HiFi for C2 48” today and was also offered a 5 years JB warranty for an extra $50. Not a bad deal IMO.

    • How did you manage that? When I called JB they said they couldn’t price match it.

  • Wow lucky I was quick on this and didn't think too hard about the 42" C2 - back to $1695 already.
