Samsung Galaxy A53 5G $499 (New or Existing Mobile Plan Required) Delivered @ Telstra (Price Beat $474 @ Officeworks)

160

I am still looking for the Samsung A53 5G as I missed out on the Black Friday Deals.

Just found that the Samsung A53 5G is $499 at Telstra and with the Officeworks price beat it should be $474.
Although it seems you need a service with Telstra to buy it outright from Telstra?

This is my first Deal post, hope I did not miss anything.

This is my work phone. Do not recommend, it’s laggy even with minimal apps installed

    • I would rather buy say an OPPO Reno8 Lite 5G for $50 more. It would be faster with much better update support.

Cheaper if you have eBay plus:

      • Had a oppo a52, absolute garbage. Of all the eff ups in my life this was the worst, and I must be pretty broken as a person because I still have it, sob.

        • The lower end models must be bad then. I have an OPPO A74 5G and it's fine. Got that back in late 2021.

Dont know why the negs, its true…rubbish phone for $500.

      • Some reviews say the opposite. Top 2/3 "best budget android phone"
        So what's going on?

I have mine since launch and was the 4GB OG Model, this is the newer 6gb RAM varient. but updates have smoothed 95% of stutters, I just upgraded to the s22 because gaming is less than stellar. I do miss my microsd slot (512GB Card). It's good for a mid teir phone

Agree, shit phone due to shit SoC.

  • Yes it seems you need a service with Telstra in order to buy it outright. Otherwise you have to sign up to a plan to get it.

  • When I bought it last month you get to claim free samsung buds live

As ozvictor said, this phone is brutally slow out of the box. 2/10 not recommended even for the most senile of grandparents.

EDIT: Holy crap this phone is not cheap. 0/10 do not buy.

    • Even, I have S21 and it has been slowed down adn it has exynos.

      • +1

Funny that. My $450 at the time OPPO A74 5G has been running smooth sailing since the day I bought it. It never slows down over time. It does have a Snapdragon chip. And it even got updated to Android 13. I recommend OPPO phones. Samsung is over rated.

That's really interesting, I have an S9+ (way older) with Exynos that is still doing really well for a younger sibling. Do you think it's because of the more bloated system ontop?

        • +1

Might be because the older models were a bit better.

          • +2

@hollykryten: Don't disagree with that - Headphone jack, microSD, built like a tank. No gimmicks on the camera either.

If you're a diehard Samsung fan, either the older A52s (if you can find) or A73.

      • I've been happy with my A52 for $400 black friday jb

  • Poco M4 Pro 5G is a much better buy.

    • +1

Unless you're on Telstra - most Pocos = no VoLTE = no phone calls once the 3G network is shut down. Oh and warranty etc etc…

The A73 for $520 a few weeks ago smashes this. Snapdragon and smooth as shit. These A53's we have at work, laggy AF

    • -1

A73 is also Laggy AF once you start installing apps and chew up memory - get what you pay for

      • +1

You're entitled to your opinion, but I haven't seen that in practice with mine, And I have a heap of apps and use it heavily.

  • How’s the Oppo A77 128gb 5g please share your opinion. Thinking to buy it. Thanks.

    • Spend a bit more and get the A96 with a Snapdragon processor. One in our family and it's an excellent device.

    Samsung Galaxy A52s is better.

Officeworks will not price beat this as you need a Telstra plan to get it. I tried this on the hotline many moons ago. YMMV in store.

    • You can make a better choice for a phone for around this price any how so no big deal.

People ripping on this pretty bad on here, but hard to name a reputable brand phone with better battery life and specs (screen, cam etc.) for the money.

I did get the A33 5G for $350 one Telstra Day and I believe it is similar, so probably can't say this is an awesome price either.

    • +1

I think the only reason someone should buy this is if they need the massive battery life otherwise there are better phones out there for the price

  • I have this phone as my daily and pretty happy happy with battery life, screen and speakers. I do have a s21 ultra that I now only use for photos, video and consuming media at home, the s21 ultra is too big for me tbh.
I bought my a53 for 400$ on ebay with apparently "2 weeks" use and proof of purchase. I think it should be 400$ retail tho. The a33 uses the SoC
