This card is not for everyone but with 325,000 Bonus Points seems like a good deal.

The bonus points are so random on the website. It showed 325,000 for me when I first visited it, refreshed the page showed 275,000, refreshed again showed 150,000 and stayed at 150,000. Changed browser, showed 325,000 again. Here's a screenshot https://imgur.com/a/zs7NJIQ

Benefits include:
$450 Travel Credit each year
$400 Global Dining Credit
Access to 1400+ Airport Lounges
Complimentary Accor Plus membership valued at $399 (one free night)
etc

    No confirmation email received. Strange.

    • Same here, thought I was the only one.

        No cards for you!

        • Did you get one?

        • +1

Ahem…. Just got the approval email :)

P.S I read your comment in Soup Nazi voice, well played if that was intended

  • I am holding an additional Amex card from my partner (still usable) and I have cancelled my Amex card for more than 18 months. Am I eligible for the welcome bonus? A bit concerned about the supplementary/additional card. Have someone tried this before?

    • Should be all good. Generally additional cards holders are eligible as you weren't credit checked.

    • Yes you will be eligible.

My partner and I have been swapping every 18-24 months.

  • I just applied for the explorer card at 70k bonus points yesterday (not approved yet) and now it's 85k…. Anyone know if the new offer applies or I have to cancel and re-submit?

    • Cancel and re-submit.

    • No need to cancel, just call up their customer service. Last time I checked, they can meet the new bonus points if it's within 2 weeks between your application and the points change.

    • +1

You dont want to be credit chcked again so don't cancel. Just call them

      • Will give them a call, cheers

  • This still has the 3% foreign exchange conversion rate

@Maestrok: managed to get a 325k link and referred a friend couple of days ago, just found out 45k points has been deposited to my Amex account this morning.

                  • @gotcha: How did you get the 325k link? Mine referral link says 200k.

                    • @AmexReferralPlease: Honestly I dont know, just randomly tried on different browsers and in their incognito/private modes.
But the same link does not show 325k anymore, back to 200k.

    • managed to get it on edge

      • Similar findings as of 12-Jan evening.

Loading the offer page on Chrome = 275k
Loading the offer page on Edge = 325k
Loading the offer page on Safari = 325k

  • I have a qantas ultimate card, any idea how long I need to cancel it for before I am eligible for these offers?

I should have cancelled my free Amex Discovery card, not worth holding on just for a few offers here and there.

Any chance of getting any sort of offer when upgrading from another AMEX?

    • +1

      nope

  • Noob question guys, if I am an additional cardholder on my wife's platinum. Does that mean I will not qualify for this deal?

    • You do qualify.

    • You are eligible as long as you haven't been a primary card holder in the last 18 months

  • i cancelled my amex card last year, how do i know if im eligible now

    • +2

Count 18 months from when you cancelled.

      • damn not eligible thanks

    • in the past, they don’t consider charge card as credit card.
While you hold an Amex credit card, they will still honor the charge card bonus.
It could have been changed .
I used to have this card for only $900 annual fee plus bonus reserve card.
      Such a great deal.

  • Platinum has been a good card for me whilst travelling a lot, but am now cancelling it. The Accor side of things has been an absolute PIA to get an eligible hotels etc. It has made me hate Accor.
The income criteria was quite high I think.

    • Complete opposite here, absolutely loving Accor Plus has made last minute weekend trips so much cheaper.

  • +1

Any luck switching from another AMEX to this card?

    • 18 month exclusion period from any amex.

      • Ah sorry, I just meant switching products. Not signing up as a new customer.

  • Is min spend for this 100k pa?

Edit: does this card also come with complimentary afr subscription?

    • I think afr is only on the biz platinum

      • Yeah just noticed and saw that they had the oz subscription but not sure if that’s better value. Thanks for the clarification!

    • Mine has WSJ and The Australian. I think it still includes that? Although AFR would be nice too.

    • Amex cancelled their partnership with AFR a couple of years ago. They switched to offer "The Australian" and WSJ subscription instead - at least for platiunum business. Caused a bit of a stir at the time https://www.australianfrequentflyer.com.au/community/threads…

  • Can anyone please elaborate about this AMEX hype. I usually have a normal commbank card for everyday stuff. If i get one of these what are the advantage of it ? dont travel much but planning to travel this year.

    • +1

Read this thread, some have provided very detailed responses (and thank you). If these are not enough, its not for you.

    • There is no AMEX hype. If anything, all credit card offers at the moment are not great compared to last year. This one is arguably one of the better offers available but it comes with hefty fee.

Do a proper research before you apply. Here’s a good read: https://www.pointhacks.com.au/american-express/

Ozbargain is fickle. 12 months ago, this deal got comments, not upvotes:
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/678548

  • I assume Gov bills (rego and insurance) still counts towards the $5000 spend? As it says you only earn 1 point every Gov bodies purchase,

Just confirming, as I applied for the ANZ Black 160,000points deal and nearly got denied on this.

  • Thanks OP. Have been waiting for Amex to throw some decent point incentives, and this will do.

Signed up 325k point using samsung internet browser. Got confirmation pretty much immediately.

Now gota try and take advantage of all the perks

  • Can someone please advise how you end up getting 2 x $200 dinner vouchers with 1 x annual fee?
Also, any ideas where the vouchers can be used?

    • It resets every calendar year. Use it this year, then use it 1st-12th Jan, cancel immediately. Although you might have to wait a bit for the credit to come back. I would recommend signing up a bit later, and using the dinner voucher early in the year to make sure credit comes back before you cancel.

      • The dinner credit for the 2nd year may not get issued until the annual fee has been paid. Wonder if anyone has proof on whether this actually works.

Wow, the approval took all of about 5 minutes. Assume they do on demand/live credit checks, why can't other CC providers do the same. Its a deal just for that, no asking for your child's birth certificate, cat's death certificate, 10 years of payslips etc

    • Did you get a confirmation email?

      • yep

    • Approval, or confirmation that they received your application?

      • +1

        approval

  • I owned an Amex Explorer. Any idea what if I cancel my current one and getting this one? what would happen?

    • All other Card Members who currently hold or who have previously held any other Card product issued by American Express Australia Limited in the preceding 18 month period are ineligible for this offer.

    • Call them and get confirmation.
Their TnC maybe saying not eligible. However I did get points for my explorer card even I had other one already.
I simply called Amex and asked about second CC card points when I already had one with them. The rep simply said I would get points even TnC said otherwise.

      Good luck.

      • Did you get the bonus points without chasing up?

      • Did you have a David Jones Amex when you applied for Explorer?

        • No DJ. Have Elevate card from 18. Guess this was from Westpac/ANZ.

          • @PopCounty: That's probably why, bank issued Amex were excluded as well.

            • @greenie: Don’t know. But these bank issued cards have well been transferred to Amex. Guess way back in 2020. No more banks association.

Worth calling from Amex app and checking to make sure you get points or not.

      • they used to say if you hold any Amex credit card in past 18 months, you don’t get promotion for application of other credit card.
But this is a charge card, in the past it won’t be affected by other Amex credit card you hold.

But the T&C did say any Amex products.
It is time to cancel all my Amex related products

      • Thank you as well. I am going to cancel my Amex this year anyway.

    1. Clear cache or go incognito/in private mode.
    2. Go to www.americanexpress.com
    3. Scroll halfway down the page until you see, "Level up with Platinum rewards". Click "Find out how" button.
    4. Click on "Platinum Card" link in the first line "Life with a Platinum Card® opens up a world…"
    5. You'll get 325k rewards offer.

This worked for me on two different laptops and two different browsers each.

    • +1

can confirm this works to find the 325k haha… reminds me of hunting for easter eggs in games.

    • Only received 275,000 using this method this morning

  • Since this is a charge card, I assume this does not affect borrowing capacity when taking a home loan?

    • Correct. Will show as $0 on credit report

      • Are you sure, does that mean I can apply for other charge cards and it won't affect borrowing power / show up on my credit checks?

      • That is not correct, each lender has their policy for charge cards.

        • how about the other way round, do existing home loans affect getting approved for a charge card?

          • +2

@Spazmos: Without knowing how AMEX do their assessments, given:
            1. Technically it's not a credit card
            2. Only salary was asked for, and no liabilities
            3. Spouse/household income asked for

Assessment would likely be based off:
            1. Credit score
            2. Salary
            3. Household income

So, existing home loans and other liabilities, shouldn't make much/at all difference to their assessment. Being said, some CCR reports, do show your limits.

        • Recently refinanced my home loan and did not even get asked about "charge cards"? They did ask if I have "credit cards" though.
