Sup ozb, might have seen this deal I posted a while ago. There have been a new eBay code dropped which applies to a listing with this model and I would consider a $200+ drop quite significant hence this new post-I think I can request the mod to have this replacing the other post? Do let me know if this is not allowed in anyway. Kudos to @souljah for letting me know of this drop.
Copy pasting the write up from the old post:
Hi folks, hope everyone had a good xmas, just spotted this deal, not exactly ideal given how soon CES2023 is, but given the lack of any good 3070/ti lappy deals in recent times, this is a good deal if you want a capable machine that can also do colour accurate work with the beautiful 100% DCI-P3 (macbook level) OLED screen while also a killer in games with best in class response times (timestamped).
Compared to earlier GP66 12th gen skus, this also gets updated with DDR5 for a small gain. Only caveat with the GP66 is that for an intel rig it doesnt come with thunderbolt, there is Type C w/ DP, mini DP, HDMI 2.1, RJ45 and 3 USB A ports so apart from TB its well rounded at least. Oh and a combination of Intel cpu & 65wh battery means the battery is a UPS more than anything in real practice, but again its a gaming laptop so hopefully not a big deal to the most of you guys.
The GP66 have 150w 3070ti and as far as performance goes, it edges out the Legion 5 Pro with MSI's gpu overboost tech, which is simply a way to bypass the dynamic boost wattage (25w for both machines) so it can attain near 150w at all times ignoring cpu load, something the Legion 5 Pro can't. Albeit there is now a hack that can bypass dynamic boost 2.0 for most machines, I will just take the liberty of posting it here in case any one want to try it:
Make sure your Game Ready driver is updated to 527.56
Open up device manager and under 'Software Devices' disable 'NVIDIA Platform Controllers and Framework
Open up MSI Afterburner, the power limit slider should be unlocked, just drag it as far as you can, ignore whatever value it is and you are done, if your machine can handle it you should get your peak (so base + dynamic boost wattage) gpu wattage at all times no matter what power draw the cpu is at
