  • Intel® Celeron Processor B815 (1.6GHz, 3 MB L3 cache)

    • +3

      http://ark.intel.com/products/63919/Intel-Celeron-Processor-…

Its faster then most 1.3, 1.4Ghz ultrabook cpus and more then fast enough for everyday tasks… its based of sandybridge

    • +6

      The B815 is, for example, faster than a Intel Core2 Duo E6600 @ 2.40GHz (scores a 1510 passmark, see CPUbenchmark.net: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Celeron…).

Don't let the name "Celeron" fool you, Intel is still using it as a brand name for new CPUs in it's "budget" ranges, even Sandy Bridge ones like this. CPU is excellent for this price range, other sub $300 laptops are all weak netbooks. This one should handle anything but serious gaming. Bought one for my wife. Might upgrade it to 4GB of RAM for $20-30 and/or throw in a sub-$100 SSD later on if needed.

  • Ugh that sounds nasty. $449.00 gets you a thinkpad ?

    • +2

still 150 bux cheaper than a thinkpad though…

      • Probably worth saving 4 weeks of fast food to get a much better notebook.

        • +2

Depends what you use it for and how often. This laptop is more than powerful enough for most people.

The DGND3700 is well priced at $141 delivered.

  • How would this go as an XBMC front end? I have a N40L hosting all my movies but couldn't get my hands on a gen 2 apple tv to jail break. Any cheaper options?

    • +3

      raspberry pi

      • registered for interest but no idea when they will contact me to order one :(

      • raspberry pie or raspberry 3.141……………..?

        • +1

          3.14159265358976… (from memory).

        • decent memory!

    • wdtv live, not sure if within ur price and better than apple tv

    • put a video card, play from the n40l directly,
I have a ati 6450, play all my BD collection from n36l without problems.

      • I have the N40L connected to a TV already, I want something to run a second front end of XBMC :P

  • +1

Funny… the specs on the ShoppingExpress site say "Memory, maximum 2 GB" which I found a little odd however looking at the specs for this model (B2Y19PA) elsewhere you can actually upgrade it to 8Gb. See here for a better description & spec list: http://www.techbuy.com.au/p/188633/NOTEBOOKS_15/HP/B2Y19PA.a…

Looks like a great little Notebook for $299 IMO! Nothing flash but perfect for the basics.

    • nah, i think the "comma" separates the two values.

It might be better to view this as a table
      Memory,_| maximum
      2 GB,___| 8GB
So it would be wise to conclude its shipped with 2GB installed, and max upgradable is 8GB.

Looking good. Gonna ask uncle if he wants :D

    • asus have 4GB memory, USB 3.0, and 2 year warranty, but with inferior battery,

      • so not really worth the extra $50 in price then?
