The problem with any of these is:
The size of the puck is quite small (when compared to a proper coffee basket).
You can't set the tamp pressure. Its preset.
If you grind a bean to a proper Espresso grind, the pressurised portafilter clogs up and either the machine will give you an error, or water will shoot down the sides past the o-rings (and not through the coffee).
My solution is to vary the grind as it is grinding, so 1 second at grind 7, then alternate between 2 and 5, back to 7. This is the only way I can get a slow dark black trickle coming out with a nice crema. Default (5- 7) just pumps out brownish bitter juice at a million miles an hour.
*Note - Do not adjust the grinder once it has stopped grinding.I just put into smallest grind, max amount and press twice of the single shot button
Not perfect but close to manual machine quality IMOWhat do your used pucks come out like? Solid round disks, or mushy grinds that are kind of round?
@tunzafun001: I think the freshly done ones are more towards the solid round disk, but those that was done few days become mushy and dry
I dont always clear the tray tho (until the warning sign)@littlesoldier: Interesting. Some grinders are finer than others. My sisters set at 3 is the equivalent of mine on the highest setting 7+.
My pucks come out like solid clay. I cant do the max coffee amount on any setting less than 5 (it comes out one drop at a time, then goes into an error mode).

Nothing too them to be honest. I replaced the element (Italians call it a 'generator') @ 5000 coffees. Then the little plastic ball inside the pump (just grab the ball from any cleaning / spray pack (I used a detol spray bottle). Open up the trigger, you will see a ball in there. O- rings, clean and lube them Same concept. That's it.
Not much too them to be honest. So they should sell <$300.

My mum, my sister, my cousin and myself all have the silver coloured version of this model. I paid $550 for mine and it was worth every cent! If you are looking for a coffee machine and looking at this, do not hesitate on this deal, it's a steal for this price and one of the best you can buy for the money. I've had mine almost 3 years and has not skipped a beat.
Protip: Don't buy the DeLonghi brand coffee beans, they changed them and the coffee taste like Sh!t. If you want cheap beans but still decent, the normal Vittoria beans from the supermarket are good. Otherwise look elsewhere as other cheaper brands from the supermarket are crap. If you are investing in a machine like this then don't skimp on the quality of the beans.

Grind setting 3, shot volume 20-25ml, 2x single shots. Airjo beans are good, I think stargazer was what I liked, aldi medium roast also worked well for me.
Currently using Costco $10/kg clearance beans, acceptable

No offence, but no Aldi beans are good, you saying costco beans are ok? I'm Italian and been drinking coffee since I was 8, I can tell you that is not nice tasting coffee you are drinking.

I have a 3yers old magnifica model that a little bit bigger than this. There is no issue last 3yrs.
I think cleaning and maintenance job are De'Longhi automatic coffee machines are much easier than Philips models.
