Not an expert but from what I can tell, the M2 chip has some speed and graphics improvements. If you use the apple pen there is a new hover feature for that. But other than those they aren’t too different. If you have a 5th gen you probably wouldn’t bother upgrading but if you are buying new, the 6th gen would hold its value longer and probably get a year or so longer life span.
I reckon if $90 (about 5%) is the diff it would be worth a go for the hover gesture function with the pencil, and the M2.
Not that iPadOS really takes advantage of all that power in the M2 anyway (for now).

That's a price of a gaming rig or a decent laptop. Someone mentioned apple tax?? I know what you mean but it jolted my memory about how apple didn't pay a single cent tax since they opened here in oz. Taxation dept slapped em with a MASSIVE back-tax bill of hundreds of millions $$$. They paid 6c in the dollar and the rest was written off. Apple are pricks imo lol.
The ATO did a 5y audit of apple australia and found they paid all taxes. It was even raised in senate estimates as part of the multinational tax avoidance inquiry. So, uh, cool story I guess

I have 2018 ipad pro, with same or similar specs to current iPad air. They literally rebrand/rename and sell by increasing apple tax.

now add the price for a CPU + GPU combo that is on par with the M2 SoC (let's ignore power efficiency for now), a motherboard with onboard Wi-Fi and Thunderbolt 4, and also those cameras on the front and back.
And how much does an equivalent LiDAR sensor cost?
The hardware is amazing, but it's still limited by iPadOS. I've been a die hard iPad user for years but finally gave up after trying stage manager and switched to a tab S8+. 120hz OLED, camera is on the landscape edge and comes with the S Pen which is more useful and feels better to write with than the Apple Pencil. DEX isn't perfect but it's so much better than Stage Manager.
Apple just seems really confused about how to handle the iPad, the line up this year is a mess.
