    Talk about euphoria

  • Platinum or diamond better?

    • -1

      Going by RocketLeague - Platinum.
Going by the IHG website…also platinum

      • Turns out; my memory is in shambles.
Diamond is better than Platinum on both counts - sorry mate!

edit: the link for the relevant page on the website so you don't have to listen to me

    • Diamond

    • Platinum, Diamond Elite then Royal Ambassador:-)

  • +1

    Worked immediately thank you!

Now looking for MGM or Caesars elite status…

  • I think the website has been DDOSed.

    Does not work

We encountered a system problem while processing your request. Please try again or contact the IHG One Rewards Club Customer Care Center for assistance.

    • Do you already have an IHG account? If not you need to create one first then it will work.

  • If you book through Qantas do they recognise you on their system?

  • Thanks so much op - unbelievable timing as I am staying 4 nights at Holiday Inn from tomorrow in Sydney (we have 4 rooms booked)!

    • +2

Let us know if you actually end up getting the perks. Would be sick if you do

    • I'd call the Hotel now and let them know that you are Diamond and just checking that they had registered that as part of your booking. That way by the time you arrive it should be easier to get the benefits

      • Did this last night but was advised that because it was through 'hotels.com', we needed to bring this up directly at the hotel (which we did this morning). Unfortunately, zero benefits apart from a verbally promised late checkout (which is subject to availability).

    • Just curious, did they give you free breakfast for everyone in all the rooms?

      • @geek001 Ordinarily it is limited to the member, depending on status, one guest.

    • -1

Just an update: no perks apart from late checkout. Specified that the rewards are only if you book direct with them, and not through a third party website (which I find to be a tonne of BS).

      • +2

        thats standard across the board.

        still annoying

  • +9

This is super crazy timing for me.
I'm currently staying at the Intercontinental in Asia (booked direct).
Just signed up and also did the fast track to Elite Status.. might do downstairs and ask the concierge to add my new IHG rewards number to my booking and see if I get the perks.

    • Would love to hear if you actually get the perks applied. Would be sweet

    • How did you go?

      • +2

Conceirge took care of him lol

      • +7

Yep all good!! Conceirge 'took care of me' and added my new IHG membership to the booking.
The app now shows my current stay in it, and estimated 19,492 points for a 9 night stay.
I did book directly, although I booked as a 'corporate' booking so there were some limitations which I knew about before I turned up, eg. house keeping was twice during the whole stay and breakfast was charged if used.
They suggested I still can't get the breakfast perk - cause it a corp booking - which is fine.
All in all, yes it works from the looks of it. Only points for me from the looks of it - better than nothing!

        • Should try ask for an upgraded room

          • @snoopydoop: Nah not gonna push it.. i got a pretty good corporate rate as it was a long stay.

        • @ezza 19,492 points will quite possibly get you a free night in a Holiday Inn Express somewhere…….

          • @RD ADL: Ooooo nice! I'll check once the points land.

    • +1

easiest way to do it is to tell them that you just want to check that your Diamond status was picked up as sometimes you've found that the booking doesn't connect with it. They can't tell when you became a Diamond - so no need to tell them and give them an easy option to not honour the status as you got it mid-stay

  • If you book 3 rooms for the whole family under your name, does it count towards 10 nights?

    • +3

Nah it counts as it would if it was one room. Booked two rooms under my name for PAX with friends for 4 nights and only got 4 credited.

      • @drhip
        It does and it doesn’t.
Status retention works on either Qualifying Stats or Points attained.
Diamond is either 120k points or 70 nights.
You’ll get qualifying nights for one room but not the other two. The points will count towards qualifying. To be safe get all room charges posted to the member’s room :-)
        :-)

Is this actually worth it compared to booking through booking.com?

E.g. im thinking of going to Greece, Turkey, Poland in 2023. But I'd usually book with a budget of $100/night for 2. Not $500/night or some crazy figure like that which seems to be the price of ICH hotels

    • +1

Well it's like every deal that goes on offer - you have to weigh it up against changing your spending habits. This is why companies put out the deals in the first place.

But if you're already staying at those sorts of locations or using those car rental companies then the benefits stack up very quickly.

    • +4

      There are two issues there.

The first is your question about it being better than booking.com. The answer is that I find booking directly with hotels are generally comparable in price - sometimes direct bookings with the hotels are actually cheaper.

Secondly is the allusion that this deal is somehow going to be able to get you a place comparable in price to a hostel. No. If you only have hostel budgets then stick to that. But if your budget is more realistic for proper 4-5 star hotels then this is a fantastic deal depending on the country you’re going.

Eg. I’m going to Kimpton a well regarded 5* brand of IHG in Barcelona for $200/night where 3/4 hotels are running circa 80-140/night. For that small difference in price, the upgrade, welcome amenities, free drinks and free breakfast, much nicer accommodation - it’s a no brainer that this is ultimately a better value option than trying to save a few bucks.

      • They also have a good price beat policy if the same room is cheaper on a booking site

      • +1

Like any loyalty progam, the more you spend, the more you get looked after.
I'll do around 60 nights this year in IHG hotels. I'm incredibly well looked after and happy to pay a premium for the outstanding service that IHG offer globally. :-)

    • +3

It depends also on what you determine as value. Don't forget your stay accumulates points which can be used for more stays and also helps you maintain status. Similar to why you might fly One World or Star Alliance members to accumulate flight status. You might find some hotel groups are better for certain countries.

I suspect if you're going for budget - the likes of airbnb or booking.com generally will fetch you more budget friendly options compared to getting stuck to a group of hotels.

This sort of "deal" generally benefits people who stay at hotels regularly. Or have access to cheap-ish stays (some countries like Indonesia have really cheap IHG stays lol).

To those that are planning to book stays.. don't forget to use cashback sites that redirect to IHG to book.

      • IHG also do sales! Recently booked a bunch of hotels in Japan (including a couple of ICs) in sakura season for a decently cheap + stacked with upsized cashback from Cashrewards.

    • +1

IHG have other more affordable brands. Holiday Inn is pretty decent a lot of times. I've loved every Hotel Indigo I've stayed at (Berlin, Singapore, Phuket), and most have been fairly affordable. Some InterContinentals are pretty affordable too, recently stayed at IC Kuala Lumpur, super affordable.

      • @ninjalot Absolutely the Intercontinentals in Asia are particularly great value. Indigo excellent, quiry brand and Kimpton also now on my radar after a couple of stays in London, Manchester and soon, Sydney.

  • -3

    Is free???

  • I don't even travel that often, signed up anyway….

  • i mean i did this.. but more from FOMO than anything.

Its actually pretty hard to go and book to stay a 10 nights holiday between now and the end of the year. I'm sure most places are either booked out, or more expensive.

    • +1

would be expensive… i doubt it'd be hard haha.

    • Plenty of room in one of the worlds largest hotel brands - never had an issue booking a room :-)

  • Would I be able to book those 10 nights for other people?

  • +1

Got Code is invalid message now. Probably got oversubscribed.

  • not working anymore

  • missed out again! damn :( still just got my member tier account. will have to keep my ear out for the next opportunity…

  • Yep. No longer working.

  • -1

Offer has deactivated. It was a targeted offer only available employees of a certain company. Evidently IHG will be removing the status upgrade given in error to those who aren’t part of the target group .

  • +4

Came up on my google feed. Article explains it all including if IHG closes the promo and what else you may be eligible for.

    https://www.executivetraveller.com/news/free-ihg-rewards-dia…

    • Ouch :-)

  • To keep the diamond status for another year do I need to book a total of 10 nights in 1 booking or that can be spread out in multiple bookings in any country where IHG operates? Im not familiar with this.

    • 10 nights in one go or spread out, your choice :-)

  • -5

    IS PAID MEMERSHIP REQUIRED?

  • +3

I just checked that my diamond status is still valid which it is. I rang the hotel that I booked with last night and got upgraded to a suite along with a free buffet breakfast and a late check out. Happy days, thanks OP.

  • Have many joined the InterContinental Ambassador Program to extend Diamond status for a futher 12 months?

      • What's the Hertz offer?

    • +1

Yes. I've done it a few days ago

      • Hey mate, quick question - if you purchase the InterContinental Ambassor Program (US$200) that automatically extends diamond elite to Dec 2023? sounds really good

  • Good idea but I’m not sure whether the Ambassador Program is a permanent offer.

      • It did for me. Diamond status extended to end of 2023

        • Please tell us how

  • Is there any new code?

  • Would you get free breakfast for April 23 booking even when Diamond status expires 31/12/2022?

    • +1

No, you need to have diamond status at time of check-in from my understanding.

    • Needs to be at check in

  • +3

Confirmed the deal worked, we got free breakfast and a couple of perks at Crowne (extra points, 4 drink vouchers), this stacked on top of the amex spend $350 get $75 back. And they had no problems doing split payments to max out the discount.

    • Nice

    • How do you access the Amex IHG spend offer? Is it targeted?

      • It was on offer a few months ago but has since closed, managed to get a few cards saved at that time. It's a regular thing because it was offered twice this year.

  • Just stayed at Holiday Inn in Melbourne and got 500 points at check in? I checked my statement and it says "Welcome Bonus Points"

Where does the 500 come from? Is it 500 points per night or based on a $ spend or some other sort of bonus…

Will I likely receive more points at check out based on spend? It was just for a one night stay.

    • +2

Diamond and Platinum Elite members are entitled to a welcome amenity at check-in. For Diamond, you get to choose between free breakfast, drinks voucher and welcome points (usually 500 points). You get 500 points for your entire stay, which is not a lot honestly (like USD2.5). You also get points based on the value of stay, 10pts per USD base plus another 10pts per USD for being Diamond (these will show up in your account after your stay, sometimes takes a while). Points can be redeemed for a variety of things after, best value is from redeeming for nights

Saw this on the FlyerTalk thread: https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/34678146-post24.html

Not sure if its true and when its happening, but hopefully nobody booked any non-refundable stays

  • I called up and mentioned the company I worked for (larger corporate) and they honoured this deal (instant diamond)

How does IHG compare to Bonvoy? I notice IHG points are only valid for 1 yr (vs 2 for other loyalty progs).

Any recco's on finding good info on hotel membership programs?

    • -1

I just called and they said they cant see this code. Damn!

    • IHG points are only valid for 1 yr

According to this table: "Points Don't Expire" for Silver and higher status.

    • What number did you ring out of curiosity?

  • I booked prior to this via Expedia and checked in today . Still got perks. Already had breakfast, but got free drinks. Didn't get early check-in or upgrade though..

  • I joined Ambassador a few days ago, and my Diamond status automatically extended to 31 Dec 2023. So this would be a good option if you cannot stay 10 paid nights to requalify for Diamond for next year.

    • Sorry can you clarify how you did this?

    • Others considering this, exercise caution though. If you're buying Ambassador for 200 USD purely to extend your Diamond status for next year, we still don't know for sure if this will prevent IHG downgrading your account (if they decide to do this for all the instant diamonds). Ambassador benefits only apply to InterContinental hotels and resorts (plus some for Regents/Kimptons), while Diamond applies to most IHG hotels (Holiday Inns, Indigo etc)

If you were planning a weekend at a InterContinental anyway, Ambassador might be worth it on its own with the one free weekend night stay benefit. Depending on where you stay, it might completely offset the 200 USD. There's also a promotion atm, if you get Ambassador before 31/12/2022 and stay 2 nights at InterContinental hotels and resorts by 31/01/2023, you get 20k points back (worth around 100 USD).

      • I’m sure they would have downgraded by now, it’s almost November

Also, I still can’t work out how you get the free night, you have to first book a two night stay and then you get a free night voucher or is the third night of the booking free?

        • I don't think they'll do a mass downgrade before the end of the year, but who knows. I was mainly referring to using Ambassador to get around the 10-night stay requirement, which I'm not sure they will honour, if they find out.

You have to book via a "Ambassador Complimentary Weekend Night" rate iirc. TPG have a guide on it. This link also seems to work

          • @ninjalot: Free night still makes no sense . You have to book it? Why can’t anyone explain this to a 3 year old

          • @ninjalot: Would they refund the Ambassador fee in that case?

    • Joined up as well. I wonder if we renew next year, will our diamond status get auto extended again to 31 dec 2024?

  • -3

    Hey All.

managed to get on this deal.

I dont have any plans for bookings this year. however ive got an overseas trip next year in Feb that i can look to use this offer on.
Does anyone know if i book accommodation now for next year, if the benefits of Diamond will be included on said booking?
Or will they dissapear if lose status come time to check-in?

    Cheers

    • You need the status at check in to have the benefits

  • I still appear to be at Diamond Elite status after this deal. Can anyone confirm if the 10 nights before 31/12/22 is still applicable to extend for another year?

  • Hm I have an promo (via work) to spend 15 nights with BonVoy to get Platinum (or whatever their highest) status is too.

Any reason to choose IHG over that? Done reading on it but find it all pretty overwheling
