      Sorry to hijack the comments here. Something similar was posted here ages ago. Followed all the steps etc and got the deal. Management sent a message a few days later saying the promotion and the upgrade was revoked as it was only targeted for a small group. I personally am not going to waste my time, but good luck to the ones that did it. Hope the management are bigger people than they used to be and let you keep the upgraded status.

      EDIT: Realised it wasn't much of a waste of time as it took a few seconds. So expecting an email from IHG now. 🤞

          I'm a Diamond Elite Royal Ambassador and have been for eight years, stay around 100 nights per year. They always have a small percentage of rooms for elite levels left vacant. :-)

      your status is applicable at the time of travel.

      You will automatically get IHG Diamond until 12/31/2022.

      After this point you might get soft landed to Gold or back to the basic membership

        In many respects you are right.
        I've stayed in IHG for around 8 years and around 100 nights per year pre-pandemic.
        This year I've clocked 50 nights and am only just closing in on Diamond Elite. So unless you can maintain that kind of number of stays it'll be short-lived but they've filled rooms in the short-term I guess……

      If you can't do 10 nights in 79 days (I think most people would), try signing up for this fast-track challenge.

      Assuming they stack, combining these two gives you more achievable tiers below 10 nights. And whatever nights you stay this year is with Diamond perks!

      • Stay 5 nights to earn Platinum Elite status until December 2023 (fast track)

    Besides bonus points, room upgrade and free breakfast are there any other major perks I am missing? It's free so that is a great win however I am wondering if it's worth staying the additional 10 nights to unlock 2023!

      Guaranteed Room Availability: Platinum Elite and Diamond Elite members are guaranteed one guest room when reservations are made at least 72 hours prior to the date of arrival.

      Really dont know how that is possible when hotels get booked out for big events but

    Nice one! Registered and showing as Diamond, was just about to start booking hotels for an extended overseas trip so timing works out perfectly.

    Have always had great experiences getting free upgrades all the time pre-pandemic as a Gold Elite member.

    this code is for amazon staff. ppl have reported their account being suspended or cancelled after using this code. if you already have a gold status/diamond status, dont use this code.

      This. IHG in the past have been very aggressive about terminating accounts for people who have incorrectly used a code. If you don't have an account yet, then by all means - you've not really got anything to lose. If you've got one already and especially if you've got points, it's probably safer to steer clear.

      IHG could just do what the other loyalty programs do - i.e. notify you that you are not eligible and not allow it to go through rather than terminate you after the fact. But they don't.

      In any case, YMMV

      I had Gold Status before the pandemic and honestly the Hertz benefits were a common plus to my trips. Free upgrade to next size up. It's supposed to stop at Full Size but I've been given a Luxury model several times when I've booked a Full Size.

      Also just in general I've found I've been treated better. It's all addressed by title straight out the blocks and falling over themselves to get me in and out as quick as possible, directed to a lounge one time when there was a delay, offered drinks, etc.

          It was just automatic for me, I don't recall having to do anything. Maybe some thing to link your IHG and Hertz account? Don't know, it was a long time ago I signed up.

      Depending on the location they also have express pickuo where the car is ready and waiting you just jump in and show your license on the way out. Saves lining up and dealing with bullshit.

      If your trip is upcoming, it will work. IHG upgrades usually are at check-in from past experience. So they'll bump you up & give you perks based on your status when you arrive at the hotel.

      Email the hotel and let them know your IHG Rewards Number ahead of staying. That way you'll more likely score a good upgrade as they plan rooms ahead of time. :-)

          Yep that’s pretty much it.
          Likely only one room upgrade. So depending on the hotel might be something simple like at Intercontinental in Adelaide.
          A one room upgrade is from a King City View to a King River View.
          Same size room but an upgrade (of sorts!)

    Remember all the perks only exist if you book directly through them - not through booking sites etc which can be cheaper:

    Qualifying Rates: Qualifying Rates include Reward Night/Free Night* and most business and leisure rates, such as Advance Saver rates, Best Flexible rates, Global sales negotiated rates (including but not limited to Corporate Gold rates), national/regional/local government rates, and specified leisure rates as confirmed by IHG’s reservation systems. In Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and Greater China (Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan), Qualifying Rates include all locally negotiated rates. Note: In Greater China, Qualifying Rates also include all corporate negotiated rates settled with hotels via regular payment. In all other parts of the world, locally negotiated rates are classed as Qualifying Rates if the rate is discounted less than 30%.

    When staying on a Reward Night/Free Night, Members will not earn Points or partner miles/credits on the room rate or room rate equivalent; however, Points are awarded for all other eligible charges.
    Non-Qualifying Rates: Members will not earn Points and/or enjoy Member benefits during a Stay on most Non-Qualifying Rates. This restriction includes but is not limited to: earning Points on food and beverage purchases, parking, in room dining, movies, and any other incidental charges incurred during the Member’s Stay on a Non-Qualifying Rate.       Yes and no. While strictly what you quote is letter of the T&C, I have had multiple bookings upgraded and/or given bonus earn rates eventhough I had booked through third parties.
