It's not an LED LCD tv but still a good deal at the current price. The tv has a MCI (motion clarity index) rating of 100Hz which is LG's own rating method which I'm not sure is completely accurate but the picture looks good to me. It comes with a detachable power cable so no need to mess about with an adapter. You can simply use a compatible Australian power cable. The DVB-T tuner picks ups all free to air channels here in Australia without any additional adjustment. EDIT : Apparently not unless the country region is changed to Australia. I don't have any need for the other tuners so I haven't tried them and don't know exactly how to anyway. With the current firmware (05.01.10) the tv country region can be changed to Australia (AU) with a Logitech Harmony remote via the EZ_ADJUST service menu (link below) to access Australian smart tv content if required. Don't update to version 05.12.05 as this disables that ability. Being from Amazon (Germany) the price can fluctuate a bit but currently $633 delivered. Also I should point out if you add most anything else to the purchase the 40 Euro delivery fee stays the same. Just remember if you go over 1000 Euro Amazon will charge an additional import fee.

What the heck? How can Amazon Germany afford to ship a 47" LCD TV by 2 to 12 day post to Australia for only 40 euros? That's insanely cheap. Even if it's coming from Amazon's nearest warehouse (New Zealand, I believe) that's really cheap.

  • Does the warranty work here? I imagine that could be difficult..

    • +14

When I bought a Crucial SSD from Amazon USA that proved to be faulty, Amazon refunded the purchase price plus postage with no questions asked. Impressive service. However they refunded a fixed $15 fee for the small box.

According to Australia Post, airmailing 20kg to Germany would cost… $467 :-P

      • +6

+1 for checking the reverse shipping costs. Sums up Australia Post perfectly :)

        • Hang on, international postage prices arent completely set by Auspost, most of the cost is set by the international postal union. Besides its all about volume, if you were sending 20000+ articles a day, you would get a better cheaper price, and wouldn't be paying the full amount.

      • Australia Post is so lame.

        • -1

auspost is good but ive noticed their prices have climbed very high lately, i tend to use other couriers now

  • nice find, will buy one if I dont have my LG 47LW6500,
the DVB-S is bonus for me to get ride of my satellite box.

  • whats the Aussie equivalent for this?

    • Like to know too

      • Me too

    • +1

Rip off version ? Then we have plenty

  • Been doing some research, some owners have said it performs excellent as a 3D/2D TV/Bluray purposes but for gaming you will see a fair amount of ghosting.

    Pretty bloody tempting!

  • +1

I doubt LG Australia will help with any warranty issues in fact at this price they'll probably stop Amazon from shipping their products here if they can.
I don't think LG have a triple tuner available here so there's no Australian equivalent.
I don't game so I can't comment on the tv's gaming quality but apparently by default the input lag isn't great.
I've read that labelling the HDMI input as PC will improve the input lag.

    • Love the picture, Europe does it correctly!

  • They will block this in no time at all. They already don't allow me to order nespresso machines anymore, and I only ordered 4, for a combined 40 euros postage

    • Do they still ship it if you have already paid? Its a very tempting bargain… :p

  • 529eur means $661 ATM according to xe.com.

  • Im turned off LG

Bought the 50PV250 last August at JB for $850

Then realised it does not support DTS!!!

Apparently LG only licensed DTS for Korea (for that model anyway)

    • +2

your buying a tv for a tv, sir. if you want every codec played back thats what a media player is for.

      • not sure if u are aware, DTS isnt exactly a codec. its digital sound which bluray relies.

        • The main point was media player capabilities is complimentary.

I dont see where you are going with DTS politics.

        • What you on about? Im saying you cant use this TV with Bluray players, because there is no DTS which means if you play Bluray, there is no sound.

There was no main point about media player capabilities

      • +2

Well technically for DTS you'd most likely be using an external amp.

    • +4

You want DTS output over your TVs inbuilt speaker? Waaa?

Let your amplifier handle that. Or change your Blu-ray player to output PCM.

Similar to listening to lossless audio with laptop speakers. No point.

  • Any credit cards that can cover warranty on these? Should I purchase or should I not?

    • I have a BankWest Platinum card that offers free extended warranty (up to 1 year) and no service fee on foreign currency transactions. The Gold product also offers free extended warranty. However the key here is "extended", and I don't know whether BankWest's insurer would recognise the original warranty period that surely isn't available here.

But claiming the insurance costs $100 a pop, so on a $~650 TV one might just wear the cost and avoid shipping a TV from Germany in the future.

      • +1

Generally the insurers require an Australian warranty.

      • With my ANZ ….Its in my terms and conditions that item should be from an Australian seller…

  • If only they did AU shipping on this….. http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B005LAZ8EW/ref=ox_sc_act_tit…

No warranty makes me iffy especially when its an LG and especially when I read this from http://www.amazon.com/LG-47LG50-47-Inch-1080p-HDTV/product-r…

After having an LG47 LG50 LCD 80 days the picture goes out and after their tech replaced the mother boards the unit still does not work.It is now three weeks later and I want a new set and LG will not budge on this. They want me to miss another day of work so they can try and fix it again. This set is less that 3 months old.One day of lost wages and three weeks of paying for HD cable that I cannot get.B.S.
    DO NOT BUY LG PRODUCTS.

    or

This 47LG50 was a exchange for our Panasonic Plasma 42 inch that we
bought 3yrs ago from Circuit City. The Panasonic went out 3 months before the extended warranty was up. We waited 5 1/2 month to get the exchange do to panasonic selling their parts department and they could not get the parts.
After picking out the 47LG50 we had it a total of 6 weeks and it went out.
    :(
Circuit City came out and within 2 weeks LG replaced the whole inside of the TV. We now have a great TV. :)
I would recammend this TV if you buy the extended waranty.

As tempting as it may be, I'd rather not gamble and will pass on this for now.

  • Bit the bullet…

    • Arrived today, all good.

  • +1

Very good price and shows how well the Aussie suppliers must be going. But warranty issues are a concern to me.

    • Also, to claim warranty, do you need to communicate in German..?

    • +1

There would be no manufacturer's warranty, nor statutory warranty, on this. The seller may offer you warranty (and may not), but the shipping costs back to them would rule that out as an option. Unless things have changed since last time I checked, LG do not do a worldwide warranty. It's not a particularly good deal given it's such a big gamble.

  • +1

Came to $600 aud with my 28degrees card. Thats insane.

    • How do I get this 28degrees card?

      • -2

        How do you think?

        • yer stupid question sorry. So these cards give you cheaper prices @ Amazon, what about other overseas places like Zavvi etc?

        • Not really a discounted cheaper price. But because you don't need to pay for transaction fee or currency exchange fee, the price will be better than using other form of payment!

        • thanks

      • +4

Simple just go here and apply http://www.28degreescard.com.au/ It took me 60 seconds to be approved and these cards are brilliant if you plan to travel overseas as they have no transaction fees or ATM charges oe money conversion charges.

      • +1

        do the chicken dance

    • +1

man , this is brillant card… wonder why I enevr came across.. it.. applying now and closing some stupid cards….
      No annual fee as well…..

      thanks dude

      • "We want to make managing your money easy so we make it easy to find what you need to know. We will send you a monthly statement whenever you use your card. Each statement will show the transactions made over the last month and the minimum monthly payment required.

The minimum monthly payment is either 2.5% of the total outstanding balance, or $30, whichever is greater. Your statement will also ask you to pay any overdue or over limit amounts."

Im sorry im a really big rookie when it comes to credit cards, but does that apply when you have an outstanding balance? So there is no minimum monthly spend? So really, you can have this card for free and never will be charged unless you take more than 55 days to pay your outstanding balance.

        • +1

you are correct, ive had mine for almost a year, used it once or twice.

so the minimum payment only applies if you have outstanding balance.

        • I load my card into the positive and use it as a debit card, no risk of fees ;)

        • I load my card into the positive and use it as a debit card, no risk of fees ;)

That is only needed for ATM withdrawals. (Useful when travelling).

    • that card looks so good! cant believe I haven't heard of it before.
any hidden things I should be aware of?
      thanks

    • So you paid in EUR but the 28 degrees conversion makes it $600?

  • +3

Incredible price… No more waiting…Here is my contribution for Euro Crisis…. Amazon deals usually wont last for ever… Ofcourse if you already have an LCD dont throw your money for this… deals comes and goes but money goes easily but hard to make it…

    Warranty is a question mark….

Just shows how much profit our brothers here are making and still crying about tax….No wonder why house prices are not dropping for top end ones. These are the guys who fool us and live the playboy life… But working mom and dads struggle to pay mortgage coz they have to spend 2-3 times price for the same stuff here in our lovely land….When a Robber robs - we dont say he is Greedy… We call him a Thief… So whats the appropitae name for our bro's here…

Wish we could buy some american muscle cars like this as well ….I will be happy with a Camaro SRT8

  • Oh man, it's so tempting.

  • Great deal.

@Yates: How long was the shipping took?

And anyone ordered got their credit card charged already?

    Cheers.

    • ordered last night.. Not charged on Card yet. Shipping date says 20th. So 2 days.. to get it ready for shipping…Amazon Express shipping takes only 2-3 days from past experience . So all together 5 days(just a guess)

      • They haven't charge my card as well. Wonder is this deal still going through or not…
My old TV decided to die on me, so need to know is this deal on before decide to buy another one.
        Thanks for the reply guys…

    • +1

I ordered home theater system from amazon.de Placed the order on Monday and the shipment was at my house on Friday Morning. You get an option to pay by AUD at the checkout so you will know that what you will be paying. If you leave the conversion on Credit card then they may charge you some money as well as unknown conversion rate.

      • +1

28 Degrees Mastercard will be less than Amazon conversion.

  • You could get an Australian delivered refurb for around the same price (with a 1 year local warranty), which in my opinion will end up being much a better deal.

    • +1

No you couldn't. I've been checking all the refurb TV sites with regularity, and their deals don't get close to this

    • Yes thats also not bad… but New is New….

I think as amazon is ready to ship it to here, it should come with International warranty. The reason why I say this is , amazon wont allow you to checkout some electrical items which might mean it doesnt have international warranty. But how come they allow this one to be checked out. They arent that stupid…..

      • I dont think LG Australia will cover the warranty to be honest. You could phone them and ask tho 1300 54 2273

        • Sorry meant to +1

  • +1

pardon my ignorance but does one need a step down transformer for this tv or does it support dual voltages (110-240)?

    thanks

    • nah correct me if I am wrong guys, it has same power as here just different plug which is plug in plug out one so can be replaced with Aust one

      • you may be correct…most EU countries use 220-240 volts…google told me…

'life's pretty tough without a twisty' remember this slogan?

        • +1

I have a packet of Twisties every day to to help me play the ozbargin way

    • Germany (Europe) is 230 V, same as Australia.

  • Isn't there a pretty big risk of shipping an item of this size, especially being a TV for such a long distance. I mean there is a pretty big chance that during transit the screen may crack. What happens if you receive the item and its either D.O.A or the TV screen has been damaged?

    • AMAZON will replace it…checkout cluster's post regarding his ssd near top of page..

      • well Cluster said they refunded him a "Fixed $15 small box" so if you ship by Aus Post as Cluster stated was about $467. Hence I don't think they would pay this, since the cost of the tv is almost that price…

        • Amazon offered US$15 to cover the cost of posting the SSD back to the USA. They didn't ask me exactly how much I paid. As it turned out, US$15 wasn't enough to cover the AU$18 cost of registered air mail. Would Amazon.de cover anywhere near $467? I doubt it.

The product's web page claims the package weighs 25kg, so it's even more than $467 (20kg). I don't know if Australia Post would even ship it as their online postage calculator only goes up to 20kg.

        • The weight of the TV I think I saw was around 18-19 kg.. I think components like speakers, cables, manuals and remote and packaging add up to the 25kg as stated.

If you really did have a problem and were to only ship the TV itself without all other components, I'm sure you would be able to fit it under 20KGs.

        • +3

The speakers are integral so you can't take them out. I doubt the manual, cables and remote would take away 5kg, and you'd need the packaging to send it safely.

        • 18kg for the actual article, according to Amazon.de. I don't think 2kg of packaging material is going to cut it.

        • The base usually is around 3 to 4kg. you would not need to send that back. the real issue is the cubic volume. this is how couriers normally charge.

        • Australia Post will not ship this. they have a limit of 20KG AND 1.4m Girth (2 smallest sides multiplied by 2) this box is way too big.

        • I posted a book back to Amazon.uk for $87 shipping using Auspost and they refunded every cent! I assume .de will do the same…

        • $400 odd might be a different story though…

    • I mean there is a pretty big chance that during transit the screen may crack.

Not in original packaging. TV screens are plastic, not glass.

BTW, if there is a fault, could you ship the logic board (or power supply etc) back for warranty, rather than the whole TV?

      • +2

sending faulty parts back means one would have to take the tv apart..i dont think you'd want to do that…

anyway, below is LG's policy on warranty…

'This LG manufacturer's warranty only applies to service within Australia to units purchased within Australia.'

        • Even tho this is a great price and it shows we are getting ripped here in Aust, I would rather buy one with a Warranty thats valid here in Australia

        • ..i dont think you'd want to do that…

You'd get your local TV repair tech to identify the fault, and pay his labour.
You just need Amazon/LG-de to provide the part.

Otherwise just do the maths. Maybe add a 20% factor for lack of warranty, so still good at $750?

        • +1

Replacing a mainboard or a faulty transformer will cost a few hundred at least. Unfortunately I don't think it's worth the extra stress.

  • What would be the best deal for 32 inch LED of a reputable brand in current market? I am looking for 32 LED. This is a very good price but too big for my requirement.

  • +1

Amazon can always send a paid postage stamp.

  • Does anyone know if this will be shipped via DHL Express, since DHL is from Germany. That means that it will be sent straight to your house. If so I hope my TV doesn't end up like this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJ8qt9Oy8YI

    Or this:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U9JRmgo77D4

  • Amazon shipped the Nespresso machines to me via UPS. Their Blu rays are via surface mail.

  • Woah how much for a Samsung razer thin led LCD 50" I can't find it…

  • Can anyone apply for the 28agreed card? Guess only need to be over 18 of age, nice!

  • +1

I emailed Amazon about the warranty and this is what I got told:

    Dear Customer

    http://www.amazon.de/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=50…

I hope I have been of service. Thank you for visiting Amazon.de.

    • Thanks dude, but says nothing about the shipping costs back to Germany.

      • +2

I think they are avoiding answering that part. I will send another email to them to see if they will cover the cost of delivery back to Germany. Doubt it though.

        • +1

Keep up the good work brother. Oh and stay safe from them earthquakes.

  • +4

Ok here is the update from Amazon. Surprisingly it seems like they will refund the postal charges:

Thank you for writing to Amazon.de.

We want to offer an efficient and satisfactory service.

Of course I will help you in this case you!

Your satisfaction is important to us.

As soon as we receive the returned items, we will initiate a refund for the value of the goods (including the postal charges for the returns).

Satisfied customers are extremely important and we do our best to include you too do so.

I thank you very much for your time and apologize for the hassle and inconvenience. Of course if you have any other questions, requests and suggestions. We are any time at your disposal and still wish you a nice day and a good week!

    • i must say if they are going to refund the cost of postage and return then there is no reason why we should not buy this tv

    • SOLD! You my friend are a dead set champ!

    • +1

So, just to be explicit, this applies to general warranty service and not the 30 day thing presumably?

    • +2

This wouldn't leave me with 100% confidence that they would honour this. When it comes time to send the item in under warranty I wouldn't be surprised if they stalled on the refund of the postage charge when they see how much it is. You could be left with a very expensive postage bill, and outside the jurisdiction of any consumer affairs protection.

      • postage would be $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ omg noooo
