It's not an LED LCD tv but still a good deal at the current price. The tv has a MCI (motion clarity index) rating of 100Hz which is LG's own rating method which I'm not sure is completely accurate but the picture looks good to me. It comes with a detachable power cable so no need to mess about with an adapter. You can simply use a compatible Australian power cable. The DVB-T tuner picks ups all free to air channels here in Australia without any additional adjustment. EDIT : Apparently not unless the country region is changed to Australia. I don't have any need for the other tuners so I haven't tried them and don't know exactly how to anyway. With the current firmware (05.01.10) the tv country region can be changed to Australia (AU) with a Logitech Harmony remote via the EZ_ADJUST service menu (link below) to access Australian smart tv content if required. Don't update to version 05.12.05 as this disables that ability. Being from Amazon (Germany) the price can fluctuate a bit but currently $633 delivered. Also I should point out if you add most anything else to the purchase the 40 Euro delivery fee stays the same. Just remember if you go over 1000 Euro Amazon will charge an additional import fee.

  • Buy Buy Buy!

  • A couple of noob question please before I hit the buy button: (1) Would LED be a lot better than LCD? and (2) are they DLNA compatible? I been trying to google but did not find anything

    • 1) yes but you cant have the LED ones shipped from amazon.de out to Oz. Let me know if you have any success with the LED ones though
      2) dunno

      • Thax. Guess my money will go to Hardly Norman this time. I would rather pay a bit more to get better quality since not everyday I can afford to purchase a TV

  • It looks like they are limiting availability to Australia now. When I log in and go through the process, it states that my address is not available for delivery.

    • That's deal over then!

  • I just went through the checkout process and the tv will still ship to Australia.
With the Aussie dollar stronger the price is now $626.62. :)

    • When I go through I get 484.54 Euro = $602.90 (according to google)

      • +1

Amazon exchange rate: 1 EUR = 1.2931814516 AUD (Includes all associated fees and costs)

        EUR 484.54 = AU $626.60

  • From LG

Hi, we do not have an express international warranty. In general manufacturer’s warranty only apply in the county in which the product is purchased. Hope this helps!

  • How does this compare to the 50 inch BAUHN at aldi?

    • +1

This would be a much better TV

  • anyone received theirs yet?

Just thought I'd let everyone know that the firmware that's just been released (05.12.05) disables the ability to change the country region of the tv via the service menu. This is only a concern if you want Australian content via the smart tv options.
I haven't noticed any other changes with the new firmware and LG don't release a change log either.

Wow, I just want to thank the OP for letting me know about this deal, the other posters who confirmed my need to buy this bargain, and of course Amazon for being such mad dogs. They have never let me down.

Just days ago, I was resigned to my fate of having to settle for a 50hz TV with no 3d, smarttv etc, with a size around 40", unless I wanted to go the plasma route. I didn't want a Plasma. Then I found the Aldi 50" deal, and looked it up.. found this website, and saw someone recommend this TV instead. Now I'm over the moon.

This TV is for my room, I've got a 200hz 3d Sony Bravia 46" in the living room that cost tons from the Goodguys back last year. I never thought I'd even be able to get 100hz with $600, let alone 3D.. smartTv etc.

Saying that, the smarttv is a gimmick, and I have laptops.. Pcs… etc, so the firmware patch is no issue to me.

Basically, for all the features at offer compared to what you can get at Dick Smith, Aldi, goodguys, harvey etc.. it's worth the risk.. I'll risk warrenty.. I'll risk international shipping..(Amazon has us covered nicely, anyway)

    Thanks guys :D

Got my TV delivered today. It's an absolute beauty, the best value money going around. I half expected the box and TV labels to be in German, as a compromise, but nope. Full English.

Simple to set up, needs a fair bit of calibration work, played Gears of War 3 in 3D which was quite awesome.

    Thanks so much!

    • I've been on the fence as to whether to commit to it, and apparently they still have them in stock. Would recommend?

  • got it, amazing!

  • Just got the tv. It's great!
Btw, anyone manage to change the smart tv country using nokia symbian? Don't have logitech harmony to try with.
    Thanks again OP.

  • Got it this morning. It is a beauty! Two questions here.

    1. Can't get HD Channel. only found 13 programmes, none of them is HD

    2. Do i have to buy a LG Dongle to access to the wifi at home? It says the 'LG WI-FI DONGLE' is included in the box, but i couldn't find it in the box.

    Does anyone have a clue???

    Thanks

I think you'll have to change the country setting to Australia (AU) to scan all channels.
I made the mistake of updating to the latest firmware without leaving the setting to AU and now it's blocked. :(
I'm now locked to EU and the countries I've tried so far in the settings won't pick up all Australian channels however I have tuned in to 11 which is HD. There was no wi-fi dongle included in my box but I've since bought one and it does work as does the magic remote. Both work at the same time with a non powered usb hub but flash drives won't via the hub. I suggest that you turn automatic updates off if the tv is connected to the net.

    • +1

I made the same mistake just now, ended up using the set top box for the time been if I want to watch other HD channels. Hopefully we can gain access to the service menu in other ways later on.

      • Thanks for the heads up fellas, I was about to update by now I won't!

  • Price has jumped up by ~$50

    • Party's over then :(

  • I just noticed that mine arrived with a darkened patch about a fingers wide, not dead pixels or anything but it looks as if someone prodded it hard with a finger. Shattered :(

    • Email Amazon, they said they would sort stuff like that out. I think they said they could provide free shipping for a replacement :)

    • So how did they solve it??

      • LG Aus reckon it's an ''operational normality'' and that it's typical with the panel, so there isn't really any fault from anyone. But the patch really is annoying :/

  • There may be a work around to get all the channels back.

    http://www.lg-hack.info/cgi-bin/sn_forumr.cgi?fid=2677&cid=2…

I'm still working on figuring it out though.

  • I don't get what everyone is talking about not being able to access the digital channels from AUS…

I picked up my TV yesterday, I couldn't find the country Australia being listed but I just selected the:

    "———" option.

I proceeded to use Auto tuning and it picked up channels like ONE HD and Seven Mate and all the other digital channels. Got a few radio stations and the normal analogue tv channels as well.

    • yes, but have you updated the firmware to v05.12.05?

    • I can't get SBS tuned in the ACT on three standard firmware with default no country selected. I also tuned in the satellite TV channels (C band Asiasat 3S 105.5 degrees) but only Vertical ones tune but not the Horizontal ones for some reason.

  • To tune all Australian channels without problems I think you'll have to change the Country to AU in either the IN_START or EZ_ADJUST service menus. I'm on the latest firmware and have managed to tune all channels but it's not an ideal work around.
Basically following the procedure from here: http://www.lg-hack.info/cgi-bin/sn_forumr.cgi?fid=2677&cid=2…

What I did was save the .TLL file containing all QLD DTV channels from a different model LG tv to a usb flash drive then loaded the file on the LK950s. It works but when I enter the home menu the tv turns off. I repeated the procedure then set the tv to LG Hotel mode and disabled menu access. I'm assuming that the tv crashes because the .TLL file comes from a different model but also because that model has the country set to Australia which the latest firmware blocks. So all the channels work fine but as I said it's not ideal. Obviously if anyone wants to try this they'll have to have a .TLL file that contains their specific states QLD, NSW etc channels.

    • How many channels do you have and why do you need to update to the latest firmware?

When I plugged my TV in, I found something like up to 19 digital channels, 2 radio channels and the standard TV channels.

  • Can someone on the original firmware please let me know what version it has.

    • I found it 05.01.10

  • More trouble than it's worth?

  • Price is now 569Euro, - unless im getting confused by the german. Is there a way to use english?

    • +1

Current price has been updated in the Title, it comes to around A$645 delivered.

Use Google Chrome or translate.google for English.

Got my TV today, it is just amazing. No shipping damage, everything well packed. I really wasn't expecting it to come with 5 cool looking 3D glasses, just awesome. When I got my 200htz Sony Bravia which cost me up the whoohoo, they didn't even give you any glasses.

Just setting up the stand now. I'll be using it with Foxtel, so even if I did encounter any problems tuning Australian channels via the inbuilt tuner.. I'd still get them via Foxtel. However, free to air tv is rubbish most of the time, compared to what I can find on Foxtel. Apart from SBS of course, I love their coverage of stuff like the Tour De France.

To the guy above - "More trouble than it's worth?" - Is such a thing even possible? For the price you are getting all these features for… it's worth all the risks. Amazon won't let you down, LG is a good brand, it's a feature packed TV. I think spending a little time reading the above posts about what to do or not to do with the firmware is another risk that you should take for such value for money.

This is a truly in your face to the Dick Smith employees who told me I'd never find a TV with 100mhz at such a price, and to think.. this has 3D and Smart TV too? Yup, mind blown.

I found a proper solution for anyone who has updated to the latest firmware and can't change the Country setting to AU.

    http://www.hdtv.com.pl/forum/lg/66693-lg-cinema-3d-telewizor…

The second post from the above page has a link to the file GP3_EU_BB_[Special_ChangeOldKey]_C0_RevNo59622_V09.00.00_ota_V2_SECURED.epk

With this firmware installed the service menu allows the Country setting to be changed again.
Simply put the file on a usb drive in a folder titled "LG_DTV" (without the quotation marks") and follow the prompt.
Once the setting has been changed to AU the tv will then allow channels to scan correctly.

    • Hey Yates,

      Thanks for this info.

I updated the firmware but still only have EU countries in the list, auto detect sets it to "other" and I can't scan all digital channels (only some).

      Any thoughts?

    • Nice work champion!

    • Hi,

This is a great deal Yates, however my tv arrived with a non default firmware 5.11.07 (but not the latest), So I tried to go to :
      http://www.hdtv.com.pl/forum/lg/66693-lg-cinema-3d-telewizor…

And get the firmware, however it says my Ip address is blocked there, Is there somewhere else I can get this firmware? Or can sombody with it send it to me?

Any help will be much appreciated

      • message me your email address.

  • Glovebox you still need to access the service menu and change the country to AU.

    • Post Removed

  • Any feedback on new vs old firmware?

    • I'd like to know this too. Could someone please comment. Thanks

  • Still thinking about buying this TV. My only concern is the warranty, will they really cover the very high postal costs back??

  • what's the general consensus on this?

  • too expensive now. They must of increased the price.

  • Just received a 2nd one, but it was dropped by UPS :(

They accept responsibility, but now Amazon have no more in stock…

Can someone report this bargain as expired, I can't as I already made a report when the price went up and you can't make two reports on the same bargain.

    • How do you send it back and how much is it?

      • Amazon are happy to take it back for free and refund the money.

But since it's now out of stock, and its a superseded model, I'm currently negotiating with both Amazon and UPS to try and get the 47LK960S instead. I can't see any difference between them though, other than a hundred Euros more.

        • Hmm, i couldn't even order the 47LK960s. Guess the ability to order must have only been for that particular TV. Didn't order this because of the 50inch Aldi one going on sale, but then I missed out on that too…. Damn it. Anyone in ACT wanna sell me their old TV for my tenants?

  • The 960S doesn't look like it superseded the 950S. It's cheaper and doesn't have as many features, including SmartTV. From what I can see on the Amazon page anyway. The only reason why the 950S was cheaper at one point was because it was 40% off, compared with 11% for the 960S.

Anyway, Just wanted to say… got everything tuned in, thanks a lot to the posters above for the info. I'm still amazed by how good a TV we got for so cheap.

    • Thanks, I did not notice the 960s does not include SmartTV. I did try to find info about it, but the German LG site does not even list this model.

  • There are some nice LED tv's for sale as well

    • with delivery to Australia?

  • +2

Has anyone figured out how to have all AU channels and Guide, but still have access to the Satellite input?

    • man thats what I'm wanting to know…

Just a suggestion I have no idea if it will work.
Try scanning all the sat channels and save the TLL file switch the tv so it can scan Australian channels and do the same then try editing the TLLs file to combine both. TllEdit v 5.0 is the only version that seems to open files correctly for me.

  • edankTLL 0.5.0.2

    https://skydrive.live.com/?cid=efde66979b38fc6f&sc=documents…

This program seems to be easier to use.

    • hmmmm interesting…

    • Cheers mate, has anyone tried this?

  • Thanks to everyone who posted and commented on this deal. Tv arrived in Bris Friday , 7 days from Germany. Tv is amazing, thanks for the info on how to change the region and warning to not connect to internet until that had been done. This is an exceptional tele and so amazed that it can come from Germany for this price. I must have got it late as it came to a total of $665 aud through amazon conversion, but still a excellent deal.

Yes it is DLNA compatible , but the player is a bit rubbish doesnt scale properly to full screen. Highly recommend a Sony BDPS790 as a player , just need a deal for those :) (needed 2 hdmi for audio to old non 3d reciever)

    • OP deserves a + vote then? ;-)

  • Just wanted to let you guys know that this TV is on special again. Not the 40% the first time around, but still 30%+.

    • I had a suss but it seems that Amazon.de don't send to Aust anymore?
I encountered this translated message "This item can not be shipped to the destination of your choice. You can either change the shipping address or delete the item from your order, by setting the quantity to 0 and then click on "Update". Learn more"

      • The only seller who shipped to Australia was Amazon.de.
The other sellers have always had stock at various prices, but do not ship to Australia.
Amazon.de are have said that they do not expect to receive any more as is it end of line.

    • Not if you wanted a smart TV to stream media or run LG apps, as it plays USB media only. Now Out of stock at Amazon.de anyway.

    • Both fantastic deals, stop being a twat.

      • Well it's only fair to point out that it didn't trump this deal it as it does not have the same features. Similer to a few posts back when someone pointed out the 960s also does not have any of the smart TV features.

      • I'm not being a twat, I got both and yesh both fantastic deals. If you don't care about the smart TV, the LED one is the I've to have. All academic.as all gone.

  • just wanted to let u all know…Mine works perfectly, got all channels as well… Switched off auto update and just perfect…..
This was a bargain and the knowledge you guys share is just great……
