      Hi, not sure what they are offering and the quality of the product, but ours is;

      • Double Wall Insulated to keep your drinks cold for hours on end,
      • An upgraded stout handle that makes it easy open and close.
      • Our inner vacuum layer will help preserve flavour so you can enjoy them more and tastes better too!.
        The 2Lt capacity means there's enough room in this.
      • Thanks, price seems pretty fair given double walled insulation

      • What flavour-affecting compounds are blocked by your "inner vacuum layer" that aren't blocked by, say, a wall of stainless steel?

        How does your "inner vacuum layer" prevent said compounds from, you know, just travelling down the dip tube that isn't affected by said layer?

        The 2Lt capacity means there's enough room in this.

        …for what? Up to 2L of liquid? As opposed to other 2L kegs that only hold…how much?

        • The keg is made from food grade 304 ss inside and out. The double wall is for insulation purposes, same as a Thermos. The same grade ss so completely safe. Capacity is really the overall size of the keg. When you make nitro coffee, you need to leave room for the nitrogen gas. This means you would fill the keg with 1.75 to 1.8 mls of cold brew coffee, leaving 200 to 250mls for the nitrogen.

            @DIYOrganicZ:

            The double wall is for insulation purposes

            Then why did you claim it was to "help preserve flavour" and makes things "taste better"?

  • You have to buy the cartridges separately. But nitro coffee is nice

    • It certainly is, a nice tasting coffee!

    For similar price you can get a setup (quality parts) with a 1.43L N2 gas cyclinder from Kegland.

    • Kahlua
      Vodka
      Cold brew
      Simple syrup

      Nitro espresso martinis on tap

    • The stainless steel keg is about one-third the cost of the product. The tap assembly is the most important part. It needs to be an excellent quality standard to deliver the best results. The cheap quality models or fittings can end up leaking.

  • For carbonating coffee? That's wild

    • Not carbonating. Nitrogenating!

      • And that enhances taste? Genuine question. Not familiar with nitrogenating coffee.

        • Honestly never tried it. I just know it's chemically different to carbonating.

        • +1

          Nitrogen produces much smaller bubbles than carbon dioxide so creates a more creamy mouthfeel. Not a flavour thing

    • Carbonated cold brew has been tried (use CO2 cartridge) but does defeat the purpose of cold brew. Cold brew has very little acid, which takes the bitterness out of the coffee. CO2 plus water creates carbonic acid and makes the coffee bitter again. In the end, it comes down to personal preferences.

  • How many cartridges of N2O would be required for a 2 litre batch?
    Could the keg be used for beer as well as coffee?

    • +1

      Looks the same as the iKegger brand which is marketed for beer but also has the same nitro ability. https://www.ikegger.com/products/mini-keg-package-insulated-…

      • they're all made in china and cost about 70USD when you bulk buy, and even less when you buy a lot.

    • +1

      The 2lt keg uses approx 1.8lt of cold brew coffee and requires 2 x nitrogen (N2) cartridges. The question used the notation for Nitrous Oxide (N2O), which is used in whipped cream and works just as well in nitro coffee. It makes the coffee a little sweeter than straight nitrogen. Also would use 2 x cartridges.

    • +1

      Yes, it can be used for beer, but the nozzle is a "Stout" nozzle, so you must purchase the correct one for straight beer.

  • Ah, so this is what those nangs scattered around the gutter are for.
