  • Refurbished by Dell?

    • Click the link and find out

  • I don't know much about dock but I'm assuming this dock will allow me to connect my 2nd monitor to my laptop's non-thunderbolt/display link enabled port in the same way that other port that has display link installed within?

    • Might want to check the review on this dock first

I was considering it until i saw so many negative review of it on amazon

    • I use one for work purposes. It connects to my Laptop via the Thunderbolt USB C port and enables me to run 2 monitors, one via the port on the TB16 and the other via the laptop HDMI port. Overall not the most compact solution but it works well.

  • ooh, 8th gen …..these would run Windows 11 ?

    • +2

they have it installed so, I hope so

    • The i5 8250u is the least CPU that you should consider viable for any laptop purchase.
It'll run Windows 11 and do all your office things just fine.

The main concern with these would be how much life is left in the battery - these laptops will be at least 4 years old so the batteries will be due to replace soon. If I owned one of these already I'd definitely keep using it, but I expect you'd be able to get better value for your $500 elsewhere.

  • Have 30 people already bought it not even USB-C :(

I have a lot of experience with Dell TB16 docks, and they have had a litany of reliability issues (many threads on the Internet also such as : https://www.reddit.com/r/sysadmin/comments/9bwqt8/dell_tb16_… ) . The TB19 docks are much better.
An important thing is that you install the firmware and drivers for the TB16 dock in the exact order that Dell recommends ( https://www.dell.com/support/kbdoc/en-au/000146828/driver-in… ).

  • Note the touchscreen (or non touchscreen) version is not the same as the 2 in 1 version, the 2 in 1 version has soldered on memory and ports are a bit different too.

Unless there were later models that had no differences?

I deal with these TB16 docks at work on a daily basis and my only advice to those who want to get one is AVOID THIS AT ALL COST.

    • Why

      • +1

        The cable is extremely short.
The cable breaks very easily and costs a lot to replace it.
They usually break down after a year or two, so i dont think they will last much longer since they are refurb.
They don't work particularly well with newer laptops so make sure you update the firmware if you are getting one.

  • does it come with a separate power brick? ie one for the laptop and one for the dock?

  • I don't understand the point of getting a USB-C Thunderbolt Dock when neither laptop has USB-C

    • uhh yes it does

      • Laptop 1:
        Connectivity
HDMI 1.4(1), Universal Jack / Audio port, micro card reader (SD 4.0), microSim card slot (external), 2 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 (one with PowerShare), Display Port over USB Type-, RJ 45, Noble lock-Full size, DC-in, Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac); Dual-Band (2.4 & 5 GHz)

        Laptop 2:
        Connectivity
HDMI 1.4(1), Universal Jack / Audio port, micro card reader (SD 4.0), microSim card slot (external), 2 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 (one with PowerShare), Display Port over USB Type-, RJ 45, Noble lock-Full size, DC-in, Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac); Dual-Band (2.4 & 5 GHz)

I don't see USB-C (Thunderbolt) on any of these laptops

  • By now the 7390s that die early will have been fixed or trashed…
