ASUS 16" Zenbook S OLED (Ryzen AI 9 HX370, 32GB/1TB) $2797 + Del ($0 to Metro/ OnePass/ C&C/ In-Store) @ Officeworks (Excl. NT)

120

I'm guessing not the best possible deal. 22% off $3499 RRP. Similar price at JB and The Good Guys.

Not quite sure what to make of this. 890M is the best integrated graphics around but still only equivalent a RTX 1070. Is this worth it for the combination of performance and portability? Considering you can get a discrete GPU at this price but assumedly with a big hot to battery.

Reasonable reviews:

Not really a deal at all when someone got this for $1297 before … OW needs to do this special price again!

That was a big price error and they would have had to honour those that were able to make a purchase. That price would have been way below their cost price and no other retailer has got near it when on discount.

They did honour the price error, but they don't legally have to.

  • Horrible device. Got it in the $1,300 price error and it's the busiest device I've owned.

My dude you’re going to need to clarify ‘busiest’ for us.

        Sorry, buggiest*.

A plethora of issues. BSD, flickering, forced restarts at random, peripherals not working in random ports, etc, etc.

You got it for an insanely good price, quite possibly one of the best deals of 2024 and you're complaining? Some people just can't be pleased.

      • +5

If I managed to get a new car for half price I'd also be complaining if the engine kept seizing on the highway.

Doesn't matter how good the deal is if the product doesn't work as advertised.

Here's another one. All I was doing today was browsing - only Edge was open. Doesn't matter what driver version I install, there's still issues. The default drivers it shipped with were much worse, though.

I'm not the only who's complaining, and I will keep complaining so that people don't pay more than I did for such a faulty product.

I have one! After all the bios updates it works well. I use AMD adrenaline drivers and it's stable now. Don't update ASUS graphics drivers.

  • I have a Lenovo 7i 2-in-1 Gen 9 with Ultra 7 155H. Frustrates the hell out of me that the cooling is so crap. Was hoping this might save me from the frustration. But sounds like maybe it will add more issues (and I got 38% off the Lenovo making it hard to let go of a deal………)

  • This is my daily driver. This is a good laptop with strong performance and battery life, not to mention its possibly the lightest 16" laptop in the market.

The key is to get all Windows Update, all BIOS settings and all drivers. Except for the AMD Adrenaline drivers, which you will need to get them from the AMD website. I initially updated the AMD drivers from myASUS and it caused BSOD.

    Hope this helps.

    • Thanks. I wasn't going to buy it originally, thinking I'd replace my returned Lenovo for another Lenovo, but realised this is actually the ideal laptop for me. Too many other laptops have switched to the weaker Ultra 7 258V (which is great for many but I didn't want to lose multicore performance for video rendering). Really looking forward to having a 16" ultralite.

    • Thanks again. Followed your advice, and so far it's rock solid and a really great device. I don't miss my MacBook at all now. Far superior.

  • Officeworks put this up to $2997, but Computer Alliance has it for $2799, so now you can price match it down to $2659.05 (not sure whether price beats count as a new deal). Bought mine this morning. Not the best deal (I'd say it will come down to at least $2200 at some point, or maybe ever $2000) but I needed something in a hurry.
