I know this deal has been posted before but I think it deserve another post because Microsoft now offer the Type Cover for free.

You will need to add the Type Cover seperately.

You can purchase the Xbox Gift Cards from Shopback App which give you 10% cash back and redeem it into your microsoft account to purchase this item,

If you pay with the discounted Xbox gift cards it works out to be $808.20 which is even cheaper than the recent JB Hi-Fi deal:

You can redeem the Xbox gift card here : https://redeem.microsoft.com/

I manage to get addtional 10% student discount by going to live chat and asked the sales consultant to place the order for me (the first agent rejected my request claiming this surface is not eligible for student discount because its already on a discounted price, but the second agent agreed to place the order for me.) Keep in mind, they will only refund the 10% as Microsoft credit to your MS account if you pay with gift cards after the item is shipped. So I manage to purchase this bundle for around $718.40 which is amazing value, but it takes some efforts)

    um first time hearing "Platinum"

    • +6

I'm pretty sure platinum is the colour. I have one. In reality it's just silver.

    • Platinum just refers to the finishing of the device. It's like a silver metallic case.

      • uh ok thanks, the way they wrote it, I thought it was talking about the intel i5 being a "Platinum" lol

Stacks with Amex targeted offer Spend $500 or more gets $100 statement credit.

    • +2

So, in theory one should buy 398 worth of Xbox gift cards at 10% off and then pay with amex

    • and 5% cash back from shopback if you pay with Amex

  • Where to buy the xbox gift cards 10% off?

  • +1

Well done. Looks like they have listened to one of us at least!

    • +1

Probably worth while noting that you are getting 10% refund by MS credit because you paid in full using MS credit. If you pay with credit card, you will get 10% refund back via credit card.

      • Wonder what will happen if you pay partially by credit and partially by card?

        • I think you can get refund to credit card if that is the case, but only one way to find out and really up to the agent.
Like the OP said before, some agents weren't do the 10% at all.

      • How do you get the 10% refund from Microsoft? And if $500 in credit card and the rest with gift card how would the 10% refund work? Thanks.

        • via chat. it is getting smashed at the moment. been on hold for over 20 mins and I can't even get through since this deal has been posted..
I will update here if I get it. I am going to pay all via credit card to get $100 amex cashback.

  • Might be a silly question but how to get 10% cash back for Xbox gift cards on Shopback website? It shows 5.5% for me.

    • +1

use the shopback app and go to the gift cards store

      • Yes, was just about to answer my question. 10% comes up only in the app. Thanks.

  • +1

I've been playing around with this device for the last 2 days, its very fun to use. Sub $800 with the gift cards trick is a very good price

  • +1

128GB storage would be rough to manage

    • the SSD is upgradable, but its a different size ssd. Hoping someone here with more experience that can provide some guidance on how to upgrade.

  • Ordered one through JB hi-fi deal…can I cancel that order here as I have chances to get student discount here?

    • +1

I'd imagine you can return the one you bought from JB at any store later, so just go ahead with the purchase here.

  • Can anyone recommend any 512gb ssd to upgrade for this? I'm having trouble finding it since its a different size ssd

    • Those m.2 2230 ssd are all OEM which the warranty is cover by the seller.

  • Please could you outline the student discount steps again? Talk to love chat, say you're a student and ask them to pace the order? Then you pay for the order with gift cards and the price is 10% less?

    Thanks

    • +1

yes, just go on live chat and tell them you are a student and wants to purchase this surface with 10% student discount, they didn't even verify the student account, I just tell them my hotmail. They will check and if they agree then you can take your time to load the gift cards to your Microsoft account and they will wait and place the order for you, just make sure you download a copy of the chat script as evidence for the refund, my agent said once the item is shipped she will notify me of the refund via email)

  • Any idea how fast the shipping is? Going Overseas in 10 days.

    • Probably from Melbourne by DHL, 10 days may be not enough for outside VIC. My surface is on hold at DHL facility in MEL, no est shown to SYD.

      • Any item I bought from Microsoft have been delivered with in 3 days.
When I bought surface Book it was delivered next morning.

How to get 10% refund (I am writing as I am ordering via chat) Education pricing is for students and parents. pretty much anyone.

    1. Asked why education pricing is not being applied for this item.

    2. a. Some agents will say it's already heavily discounted and not available for this particular item. b. Some will actually offer it first. c. Some will take long time to understand…

"Thank you so much for waiting I am happy to tell we can process the order for the Surface Pro 7+ and refund the 10% once the order is delivered." Is what I got.

    1. In the event of 2c, ask nicely if the agent can check if they can offer it. If unsuccessful, end conversation and try again.

    2. If they can do it, they might ask if you are ready to order now. They will order it for you. How? they will authenticate you via email.
"Thank you, for me to gain access on your account, I need to send a 6-digit code through your e-mail or phone. Once received, kindly give it to me."

    3. They will confirm the model and make sure they tick the free keyboard. If they can't for some reason, they will say this.
"I need your help to add the free type cover please add it on your account Configure your Surface Pro 7+ (microsoft.com) once added let me know for me to double check and please do not place the order I will do it for you so we can process the refund."

    4. They will ask you to confirm the address

    5. If there is no credit card on file, they will ask you to add a card on file.

    6. They will ask this, Say 'agree'
"By processing this order on your behalf you are agreeing to the Microsoft Terms of Sale. Do I have your permission to place this order?"

    7. you will get some msg like below;
Rest assured that you can now claim our Surface Promise 60-days hassle free return/refund or replacement at any reason you have. FREE Delivery with no minimum cost. PLUS price promise if ever we lower the pricing within 60-days, we will refund the price difference. Please expect the package within 2-5 business days.

    8. They will send you an email something like;
This is <agents name>. you are eligible for a partial refund of xxx

    9. You get your order email as well my ETA is 06 of June

    Damage
$898 less $89.8 (partial refund) less $100 (amex cashback) less $449 (tax offset) = ~$360

    • Your tax rate is 37%ish?

      • offsetting the ones in 45% range

    • What is the tax offset?

    • May be if flying out, claim gst

  • +2

    $1095 now, sad

    • This is really weird. Why would they only listed for few hours..
Maybe someone also asked to be price matched with HN as well.. as it seem to be same price as theirs

      • I believe it will be run the discount again in serval days later. We watch it.

        • +1

yeh they might. their EOFY sale will be around 20 June.
Although I have a strong suspicion that OP (and I, maybe other ozbargainers as well) raised JB deal to be price matched when it was live and it went through their pricing management team for approval thus he deal and the price being exactly the same

  • Damn stuck with $800 credit on my MS account now :(

    • Ouch. they should have a decent deal for EOFY

  • sme with me…800 in my account too…agent said she escalated and I should get a response soon…i had it in my cart @ 898

    • +2

Same here. The support was very nice and actual called back. I was almost asleep. He honoured the deal for $898 (but paid $1,095) + 10% refund once delivered. The $200 will be refunded once delivered as well and have a reference number for that. I paid $800 with GC and the rest on card.

      • But my agent says they will have a response within two days from escalation team. She has emailed me this info

        • Teah, that’s what the online chat support said as well. He also asked for my number to give me an update. Got a call 1 hour later.

  • Just Tried and tried with the agent but could only get a 10% refund on the $1095 price.

    • +1

Assume all the people got $200 +10% partial refund because the price changed when agent was trying to place the order.
I have same issue, agent was trying to place order for me and price changed, he said will escalate for both price match and student discount.
Don't think they will do price match now as the promotion finished.

      • I had the same issue last night and got it escalated. Got an email this morning from the supervisor that I dealt with when asking for a price match during JB’s offer. She said no and held that the price is $1,095.

I replied and said that I had it in the cart for $898 and missed it because of the prolonged chat order process. Also mentioned that she didn’t call to tell me when they’ve reduced the price to $898 when she said she would. Was all nice about it.

She honoured the $898. Got it with 10% student discount and paid with Amex.

        • Same here. With the Amex offer, it will come down to $708.2.

          • @3jidaddy: Hehe. Did $300 using the Xbox GC. Hence, another $30 off for me. Total outlay = $678.02.

Paid $600 on Amex because the refund of $89.8 might bring me under the $500 spend and disqualifies the $100 cashback.

  • Managed to chat with them and they processed my order now and also agreed to refund the additional amounts.
    thanks OP

    • Nice one. Hopefully all others who tried yesterday will get them as well

  • Has anybody had their purchase progress beyond pending since Friday evening?
Edit: I take it they don't do any processing on weekends.

    • Yep I ordered on Saturday morning and its still pending

    • OK, today the order has progressed straight to shipped DHL. ETA is 2 days.

      • same got the tracking ETA Wednesday via DHL

  • hmm I got tracking notification from sb at the rate of 1.3% (normal purchase, not gift card). i'm pretty sure it was 5.5% when this deal was live.. did anyone's cashback track at 5.5%?

    • +1

according to shopback its Microsoft Surface & Accessories 1.30%
similar with CR, surface cashback is 1.5%.
5.5% is only for apps I believe. (Gone back to 4.5% now)

  • Received the parcel this morning and the refund was approved. End up paying $898 - 89.8 (10% student discount) - 80 (GC cash back) = $728.2. Thanks OP.

  • My ETA is tomorrow, but just got an email from MS saying that my refund has been processed (even without me prompting them)

    • Nice!

      How does your tracking look?
Mine was scheduled to leave Melbourne today, but got turned back to be processed in Melbourne again….weird!

      No email about refund yet.

      • According to DHL, it came to Sydney today from Melbourne.
I wasnt expecting an email about the refund either (I thought it was weird that they processed without it arriving but it also shows on my MS account that the partial refund has been processed)

        • Received it yesterday at Sydney. All set up.

Cashback of $100 and partial refund of $89.8
          showing on amex statement.
