Whatdya reckon about that RRP there on eBay, $2,699?

        Tell em they're dreamin

    • I'd look at the Envy 14" 2 in 1 8640HS at $1200 instead, much higher build quality (full aluminum).

      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/364886938571

The Envy is analogous to the Lenovo Yoga 7 / Dell XPS line, whereas the Pavillion is analogous to the Lenovo Ideapad / Dell Inspiron line.

(HP Spectre / Dell Premium Pro / Yoga 9 being the halo tier flagships).

      • How do those 2in1 hinges go, I've heard they're pretty terrible across the board regardless of brand?

    • Not bad. I bought this for slightly less during this deal https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/875124 and it's been good although I've not pushed it with games, etc.

Prices look prejacked to my eyes.

    • Checked one price I knew and it hasn't changed since November. When the 20% off coupon went inactive, it was this price.

That said, the 20% off coupon has been active more than it's been inactive for the past three months.

  • Omen 27Q 165hz QHD HDR monitor for $269.60.

Decent? I don't know monitors, but seeing as JB sell it for $449 seems like a good price.

Looks like its the one in this post

      • Oh nice, I reported it as back in stock!

        Must…resist…

        • Price came down since a year ago. It was just over $300 for some time.

    I've had an HP.

Hinge broke many times. Never again.

    • +2

Same here, hinge got stuck on HP Envy 360 and broke the corner of the screen. It was 2.5 years old. I googled it and looks like it's a common issue for HP laptops.

      • Heard of this on the Spectres? Thinking of buying one.

        • I was focusing on Envy when researching the issue, so not sure about Spectre. But there were tons on reports on the web about HP and seized hinges. That being said, I replaced the broken hinge Envy with another Envy 360. And guess what, I just got off chat with HP about the built in screen not working for the second Envy. We also have a THIRD Envy in the household - this one developed various glitches and freezes in its second month after purchase. I'm starting to look at Asus or Dell for a next laptop. Based on my personal experience, I really don't see why I should buy a 4th HP.

          • @loropy9: Thanks for that. Sounds like a rough ride with HPs and you’ve been patient with them. Hopefully your next laptop isn’t so fraught. MacBook Air might work?

I’m looking to replace our couch PC, Surface Pro 2, from many years ago. Would go a MacBook but want touch screen. XPS 13 would be nice but they are pricey. There’s a company called Framework who make repairable and upgradable laptops. But I don’t think they have a touchscreen version yet.

            • @Corgsta: Macs are good, but a foreign universe to me :)
I have a 5 year old XPS 13, still working well. I got it for about half price when it was cleared for the new model.

My partner HP Envy 360 and the hinge is also broken

      • Get an elitebook.

    • Was it/they an Envy like the others below? Wondering if it's peculiar to their 2-in-1 hinge design or all their hinges.

    • +8

because HP stands for Hinge Problems.

Nothing really special, they almost had this 20% discount once a month and prices are not dropping and just kept the same …

  • Any decent gaming laptops for under $1400 with a dedicated GPU?

  • I still have my 2yo Victus 5800H RTX3060 that I got from Gerry Harvey for under $1,100.

  • No printers?

  • Would anyone know if HP would supply a tax invoice for purchases made through their ebay store, like Dell does?

    • +1

From the top of the Google result:

"To request an invoice from an eBay seller in Australia, navigate to your purchase history on eBay, find the specific order, and then contact the seller directly through the messaging system asking for a tax invoice; clearly state that you need a detailed invoice with GST breakdown for accounting purposes. "

As a GST registered seller they are obliged to provide one, eBay is just the facilitator so won't issue an invoice on their behalf.

    • +1

I bought an HP Envy from HP Ebay last year. They sent something that was supposed to be an invoice, but even their customer support said that I need to look for a real invoice when I raised a warranty repair. The "invoice" Hp Ebay provided had GST item on it, but it didn't reflect the voucher discount price, it was the full advertised price. I believe, but not sure, you could still claim the GST and tax expense but only for the price you actually paid, not the full price on their invoice.

  • Looking at the Omen 14 4070 for $2,700 seems to be a good price, was looking at others in the 14" range and didn't see many sales below the $3k mark. Does anyone have experience with the Omen 14?
