Update 10/02/2025 - OOS!

Orig Post:
Good price on the 1440p165hz 27in Omen 27q.

I've got it previously at AU $279.20 back in August last year so it's nice that it hasn't gone up and has gone lower :D.

This deal sorta replaces the old Dell S2721DGFs that we used to get back a couple years.}

Apparently there can be different panels one from LG and one from another I'm not sure which. But mine came with LG so I'm pretty sure most orders will come with the better LG Panel.

    This or Lenovo legion r27qe

    • Asked myself the same thing - I reckon probably the Lenovo simply because you can get it from officeworks with walk in warranty etc?

I'll probably be stupid and talk myself into that Kogan 38" ultrawide for a change though. Doh

      • +6

I personally avoided anything kogan brand. All junk

        • +1

Yeah TV and Monitors from Kogan are super cheap for a reason. that is being cheap quality lol.

The lenovos are bringing out decent budget offerings though lately. Not a bad idea to try at the very least and return if not like.

        • Yeah I generally agree, just can't find another monitor in the same 24:10 format and I'm curious to try it. Also apparently an LG panel in it so that's something.

HP OMEN 27q 27" IPS QHD 165hz Gaming Monitor - Its WAY better then the Lenovo legion r27qe

        • The Lenovo has hdmi 2.1 I believe

        • +1

          in which ways?

          • @RangaWal: Its not as bulky, the colour's look better "could be because it was the LG Panel" same as Dell's
It also has a nipple for menu navigation. :) Lenovo has buttons.. horrid

        • In some ways better, some ways worse, it's not as clear cut: https://www.displayspecifications.com/en/comparison/00162c88…

          • Lenovo has 30 bit color (vs 24 bit HP)
          • HP has slightly better brightness & peak brightness;
          • HP has significantly better dynamic contrast;
          • Lenovo has better response times;

The Omen. Did consider the Lenovo but that was (fortunately) out of stock. Bought the Omen 27q and am very happy with it. Got the BOE panel initially. The box was damaged and HP suggested replacing it. The replacement came with an LG panel. It's the luck of the draw. The difference is RGB vs BGR. It does have a 14 day returns policy so you could buy one and return it if you're not happy.

The issue with the Lenovo (from other posts here on OzB and on Reddit) is bad viewing angles with fading being prominent. "One notable complaint is that the colors and brightness change significantly when viewed from the sides, with some describing the viewing angles as a "mess" if you move even slightly sideways. This issue is particularly noticeable if you are not sitting directly in front of the monitor, with colors and brightness visibly changing. However, for users who remain seated directly in front of the screen, this might not be a significant problem." It's the reason I went with the Omen (despite it having HDMI 2.0 vs the Lenovo's 2.1).

      Hope it helps.

      • Can you please tell me? How to check the monitor whether it's LG or BOE panel?
        TIA

        • +3

If you check the label on the side of the box with the serial number there's a "Rev." number. That will start with an L or B denoting the panel.

    Got two before, highly recommend

  • Anyone have the 32q. Any good for 1440p gaming?

    • +1

Don't have 32q, but I have tried some other 32 inch 2k monitor, not a fan. To me Either 27 inch 2k, 34 inch ultrawide (basically a wider 27 inch) or 27 inch up 4k depend on gpu.

      • Thanks, got the 27q.

    • +2

OMEN 32q by HP 31.5 inch QHD 165Hz Gaming Monitor

Got 3 of them for work.. They are hands down amazing for everything.. 32" monitors are so good for gaming. 27" are too small.. i will never to back to 27"

      • How far are your eyeballs from the screen? I can never tell if I'm sitting too far away or too close

        • 50cm

Brightness and blue light are an issue for eye strain.. Not distance.. that will only give you neck pains as its no ergonomic

  • I got this to use as a spare screen when I travel to my parents. This thing is great, hooked up to a Ps5Pro, super vivid, and runs smooth. I got it in a sale poster here in Dec for $260. Tempted to get to more to switch my current WFH setup!

  • I've got 3 of the 32qs also, they're good. Depending on how close you have it the pixel density might bother you, it's about the same as a 1080p 27inch monitor iirc. HDR isn't amazing, but that's to be expected at this price.

  • Got this last time, rate the thing.

  • +1

Hey, These are great monitors, i doubt this is an issue for anyone, but these monitor don't have built in speakers nor does it come with HDMI cables, only DP cables. I'm sure this won't be a problem for most.

    • Yeah unfortunately most gaming monitors don't come with built in speakers. But to be fair most of the time if they do it's not very good. So I reckon the amount they save on that is better as you can always buy a $20-$40 sound and I'm positive it will be better than what they could've put in the monitor.

  • Thanks OP, bought 2 to replace 2 of my u2412h, sad they don't make 16:10 anymore but qhd is good enough.

  • My old monitor is on it's way out, it will only do 120hz and lower currently, and according to information online it's a slow decline from here, so I've been keeping an eye out on specials.

My problem is almost every recommended monitor has a lower contrast ratio than what I have, even monitors twice as expensive as this one.

My current screen has been measured at 1,554:1 on RTINGS, and the HP OMEN 27q measures at 864:1.

Will this screen be a poor choice for me, considering the drop in contrast rating?

    • +2

If you want perfect contrast, go OLED, if you can't afford OLED, check out good panel QLEDs, if you have a tight budget, buy whatever you can afford and get over it

      • +1

Cheers, enough people seem to rate this one, so gonna give it a go, and I can always return within 30 days if I have any issues.

Hopefully it doesn't look strange next to a monitor with almost double the contrast ratio.

        • Even if it does look a bit strange unless you're a suppppper picky OCD person you'll acclimatise within weeks, and it's still great specs for the price

          • +1

@Dvbargain: I agree it's a great deal, can't wait to try it out!

  • Does anyone know if this has the LG or BOE panel? I can't tell if there's a serial number difference between the two, or if it's literally a panel lottery for which one you get, haha.

    • +1

      Lottery

      • Pain… Cheers for the heads up!

        • No problem my friend!

  • Dell S2721DGF was goat ngl

    • yeah it really was. The one thing that has that this doesn't is the Dell has a nice usb hub thing so you get a few extra USB ports ! Useful to plug your mouse or keyboard in.

      • Yeah man I got the S2721DGF monitor back when it first appeared on OZB, still using it today. Yes love the extra USB ports and have both my mouse and keyboard connected to them!

        • Yeah I only got one of em!
Got it with the Dell G2422HS as well which is just a 24in 165hz 1080p that also has a few USB ports I believe.

Kinda wish I got another Dell back then if I had known they would stop stocking it but that's okay. Since the this HP deal for the most part replaces it and is quite a bit cheaper than the Dell was back than.

  • Nice deal OP, my old Viewsonic VX2758-2KP-MHD just died and I was hunting around for something reasonably priced to replace it. Everything in this pricing space that is a recommended model is just not available or way too expensive for what it is, ie Dell G2724D is $549 at JB, $509 at Amazon, LG 27GP850 is $400 at Amazon (on "sale"). This one looks like it's far better bang for buck.

    • +1

Yeah oh my gosh I got the XG-2705 / which is the same VX2758-2KP-MHD that you got except with a better monitor stand.

For like $450ish when it came out some years back that model replaced the older VX2758-2KP-MHD and it actually got worse quality and Performance with the new updated model! There's a HW Unboxed/Monitor review on it showing it performs a lot worse.

I definitely reckon you'll be happy with the HP 27q as I know it's comparable to the old DELL S2721DGF and since the LG 27GP850 your looking at was also comparable to the old Dell S2721DGF by that logic the HP would be similar to the LG 27GP850.

After all for most orders it'll come with the LG panel over the BOE one which performs slightly worse.

and I must say 1440p144/165hz monitors above $350 at this point is overpriced imo since these cheaper offerings so the same thing as the $500 ones for the most part.

A couple years back when there were very little 1440p options the best budget offering was around $399. So it's nice it's dropped below $300 now.

  • Dang, just missed out by a minute while sorting out my address. Oh well.

    • they have the same deal every month .. so dont stress

    • this is back in stock
