Great specs but 16". That's a huge laptop

    • +3

I'm getting older, and my eyes will reward me :)

  • +1

Bummer these are good specs but i got the cheaper version with 512gb and crappier screen already.

    GPU Performance for anyone that's interested;

    https://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-780M-GPU-Benchmarks…

    • +1

To note, the 780m on the 8xxx series is about 5% better in average, and 10% better in 1% lows. Amd had improved how the timing of the ram interacts with the IGPU. I dunno if that's also on the 7xxx series now but that's what we saw on the 8 series refreshed laptops like the win max 2 2024.

  • +1

Very tempted as this is extremely close to what I'm looking for.

The only real sticking points being: I'm unsure if I'll like the 16:10 aspect ratio for watching tv shows, and I was looking for a 15.6 inch laptop. So I'm not sure if 16 will be too large and its about 300 grams more than the 15.6 ones I was looking at. (Although either way its lighter than my current 2.5 kg one…)

Also slightly annoying the charging port is on the wrong side for me, but realistically that's a super minor issue that a brand new battery will make mostly moot.

I think I'll need to watch some video reviews and have a serious think about this one…

EDIT: The more I look the more it seems perfect for me /except/ the 16:10 aspect ratio.

Which I think given I would plan to be spending at least half the time the laptop is on watching things that should in in 16:9, it would drive me crazy.

    • +11

16:10 16" screen is of the same width as 16:9 15.6" screen — just slightly taller so you get small black bars above & below your 16:9 movie. It's really no different from watching the same movie on a 15.6" screen. Bezel is black so you probably won't notice the black bar much either.

      • +2

Agree. Its almost weird that he is even considering that factor. Should be not deciding factor at all 15.6 n 16. If 17 or 14 then yeah

      • -1

        That's good to know.

Since I made that comment I've actually done some measuring of my current laptop and its actually a tad smaller than the 15.6 one I'm using right now.

Might have to pop around to an officeworks tomorrow and try out a couple of 16:10 laptops to see how I feel about the aspect ratio in use.

        • +3

As someone who had used both a lot, 16" 16:10 is superior in every way.

          • -1

@stephendt: In my case though I plan on spending 50%> of the time using it watching content that's natively 16:9. So if it turns out the black bars other me that's a pretty big downside.

        • If it helps, I'll never go back from a 16:10 (or taller) ratio after switching to it. Browsing and general PC use is so much better with more vertical screen space

my daily driver work laptop (but with the 7th gen CPU)
    Screen is great
will power off a 65w charger in a pinch but at lower clocked CPU performance
zero issues with performance for daily tasks, dont use work laptop for gaming

    • +2

According to the specs this comes with a 100w charger. So that part shouldn't be an issue

      • +3

yep, just made note in case people have other chargers or like me forget the proper charger and have to use someone elses in a pinch

    • How many hours does a charge get you (general use)?

      • +1

pretty rare i run it all the way down, through most of the day if not jacking the brightness and doing anything too intensive

  • Do laptops with these USB-C ports for charging ever work off powerbanks?

    • +2

yes, if PD and depends on the wattage requirements if it will run off one vs charging when its off

  • +1

Bought this laptop last year for personal use. Very happy with this laptop. I do casual gaming as well, like GTA 5 run smooth.

    • @bacha hows the battery and can we charge the laptop from usb c?

      • It's charge via usb c but i only use the provided charger and battery is pretty good for my usage. Few hours of browsing/emails and watch some shows get me through 3-4 days but when i game i use the charger.

  • +2

is a similar config available in a 14 inch form factor?

    • +1

      Yes but only 16GB RAM

  • has anyone had experince withing dealing with lenovo warrenty?

My screen got multiple white dots after 8 months of normal use, always used at home, nevery had any damage.

Called warrenty and they asked to take a few pictures then told me it's induced damage not covered by warrenty

  • Can anyone see how much RAM the integrated graphics has?

    • +2

You can dynamically allocate the RAM to the iGPU with the latest AMD APUs. This can be done with the latest Radeon drivers. On a 32gb machine it should allow up to 16gb/24gb to be allocated to the iGPU.

      • Thank you. It's been decades since I was up with computer specs, these days I'm typically "give me more RAM" and that's about it, but this is for my son and he's more specific. It looks ideal.

      • I wonder if there's any point allocating more than 4GB to an iGPU like this. 2GB is probably plenty

        • lol

      • From what I've read this is a bit wrong. You should only ever allocate 1GB to the iGPU. The system will then allocate any required shared RAM above that. iGPUs don't require much RAM because they don't have the required RAM bandwidth to effectively use a lot of RAM

  • Not sure about this one, but they jack the price when they up the cashback. Classic!

  • How is this laptop for video editing? Any suggestions

Can someone please confirm this laptop is able to output 3 x monitors running at 4k 60hz?

  • +1

Any good laptops that's 13" or 14"? I'm currently using the acer swift (OLED, i3-13500H, RTX 3050 6GB) that I bought for $999 a while ago, but gosh is the single fan loud, the CPU and GPU feels wasted with the extremely low power limits… not a good travel laptop.

I'm thinking of getting a Ryzen with a reasonable Ryzen APU, that has a well-designed chassis with cooling. This laptop's specs look great but 16" is too much.

    • Hmm your laptop sounds like has better decent spec already with better screen

      • It has decent specs but it's a PITA to actually use, because of the 50dB (yes!) fan noise if you really want to use the specs. Extremely underspecced cooling and single fan.

In reality, it's probably worse usability than a 6-core zen3 with no GPU.

    • See if you can download a tdp limiter. I keep mine on 8w when I'm not gaming, and the fan stays silent.

But that being said, I'm using an AMD device (mi max 2 2022) and it's pretty quiet even at full blast.

Are laptops really worth it? I have a 3 year old Acer and I feel like they haven't come far in the last 10 years. Feels like dated technology. Am I missing something? Are Macs even worse? Everything is so meh these days. Maybe need to be Bill Gates or Mark Zuckerberg to see something worthy.

    • +2

They are worth it if you need a computer that is portable.

      • Maybe he meant not much change

        • +1

Yeah, but I am not sure how they expect things to change. It is a computer, but portable. 🤷‍♂️

          • +2

@Aureus: Yep same like mobile phone its just that… a screen… we spend $1800 to see silly dance on tiktok

    • +1

i think spec-wise CPU/GPU performance has considerably improved over the decade , but battery tech seems stalling/progressing very slowly despite the EV rush.

      • +1

Arms race on TDP and Intel's lack of progress has contributed to this.

I'm not an apple fan or ready to switch to arm but the all day performance there shows how much Intel has failed in the last 5 to 10 years.

    • My Thinkpad is still going strong after 6 years :p so to answer your question it's probably worth it if you don't have one or the one you have is struggling to run the stuff you need to use.

    • +1

MacBooks, at least, are killing the competition when it comes to laptops. Sure, they're expensive, but they outperform other laptops without EVER sacrificing battery life.
They're basically the best of the ultrabook and mobile workstation worlds.
I honestly can't consider buying another laptop ever again, other than a MacBook, unless there's a Linux laptop that can beat the MacBook on battery life and perf/watt.

  • Should I get this for autocad?

  • Lenovo cancelled my order

    • Order again

  • When shopback denies your claim go to AFCA to fix it.

Thanks OP, bought one for an employee.
I'm so happy with my own 7840HS powered laptop and I don't think I can go back to an Intel laptop for a while.

At $1,187 AUD, that's an excellent deal for the specs! You’re getting:

    ✅ Ryzen 7 8845HS (8C/16T, 5.1GHz boost) – Great for both gaming and multitasking.
    ✅ 32GB LPDDR5X RAM – Fast, dual-channel, and plenty for gaming & work.
✅ Radeon 780M – Best integrated GPU available, fine for casual gaming.
✅ 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD – Fast storage with an extra M.2 slot for upgrades.
✅ 2.6K 120Hz Display – Great for smooth visuals and vibrant colors.
✅ Aluminum build, 84Wh battery, backlit keyboard – Solid premium feel.
    ✅ Wi-Fi 6E, USB4, HDMI 2.1 – Future-proof connectivity.

At this price, it's a steal, especially with a 1-year on-site warranty. If you don’t need a dedicated GPU, you won’t find much better in this price range.

I’d say go for it unless you’re considering spending significantly more for an RTX laptop. If you're happy with 1080p gaming at medium settings, this is a great bang-for-buck choice.

    According to cGPT

  • Bought one added on windows pro extra 100$ then used first time discount of 5% so for me using as retired consultant with home setup of 2 monitors keyboard and mouse this is a great option

    • Do you still get cashback with the first time discount?

      • I was just looking at that and don't want to risk it

        • +1

Yeah I just ordered and didn't just in case.

        • Same here.

  • They have said I get it but we will wait and see

    • Not bad. Getting a bit more for the money, however it will be a bit heavier (2.5kg). I assume the RAM is upgradable too. Good choice if it will be just sitting on a desk most of the time. Not really for school or uni. If going down the heavy laptop route is probably better to spend a bit more and get a Legion 5 Slim with RTX4060. They're sometimes ~$1,600.

  • Really torn about whether I should get this or run out my ageing overheating p73. WWOZBD?

  • 8845HS is the last-generation AMD processor. If one is not in a hurry, the price for this model will only go cheaper from now IMO

  • Another 2% bonus cashback for Shopback Westpac Lounge so that's another $20 less bringing final cost to $1167.42

  • Any suggestions for a bargain dock to attach 2 monitors?
