Can you get a decent smart lock at this price point? Just wondering
What is considered "smart"?
Is that wifi connection?
Thanks
Whenever I see these kind of locks, I remember this LPL vid.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n0cUqNwYcoI&ab_channel=LockP…Honestly? LPL creates a kinda impossible standard for most locks. Yes, some of the ones he reviews are pretty bad, but he's also a guy who is super into locksports, to the point he makes and sells professional-level tools. The average thief isn't going to have the skills or tools he has. Unless you're a millionaire with something worth planning a heist for, most thieves are just gonna smash a window to get into your house, not diligently pick the lock in a way that leaves it fully intact.
Did you watch the video? He put a magnetic on the side of the lock, which allowed it to open. A magnet! My 3yo has the tools & ability to pick that lock.
Sure most of his stuff is just entertainment. But this was particularly entertaining.
Yeah, but that's a different lock I think? It doesn't appear to have a keyway of any kind, so it's obviously a way cheaper product. It looks like the whole thing turns when the solenoid is turned, which I assume is not the case for this particular one with an internal actuator rather than one that's on the very outside of the lock body
Honestly? I don't trust most of these electronic locks myself, but fair is fair.
@TheRealCJ: No.it wasn't this lock. As I said, whenever I see these types of locks (digital pin pad) it reminds me of that video. I think it's pretty funny.thats all.
@M00Cow: Oh, haha, fair enough.
I just get a bit annoyed when people cite LPL as a reason why this or that lock is "bad," as though he is an authority on locks
@TheRealCJ: Buy it,
try it with a magnet,
if it gets unlocked,
return it to Costco for refund.
the LPL's weakest is sticky tape with red or black marker.
It takes him longer to get thru packages, than the time it take for him to pick the lock inside them.
Probably rubbish. No smarts.
You can still get the Lockwood one with Zigbee from Dave, $109 delivered. Far superior and cheaper.

https://www.liquidate-it.com.au/shop/home-automationI made a $100 offer on this one https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/185416271433 and was accepted. You may be able to go lower. With some ebay plus code at the time it cost me about $94 delivered
When I think about you… I lock (the door) myself
No smarts no deal
