  • This or the 4K model, can I install my own apk on this ?

    • Honestly go for the 4k max. You cant go wrong.
Got rid of all my streaming devices and sticking with this one.
Got mine for $39 from big W when little birdie had the $20 coupon

      • +1

Just grabbed the 4K from Amazon using gift voucher I had laying around

        • FYI

Google TV keeps freezing and for some reason the remote goes into a funny mode where the light just flashes. Had it replaced multiple times but still happens.

Apple TV is just a gimmick but i mean if you can get a 4k one under 100 on fb marketplace , its a steal just for the little ones to play games

          • @easternculture:

            where the light just flashes

This keeps happening to mine but only started doing it somewhat recently. Usually I have to pop the batteries in and out.

      • Agree with that with one exception, the 4k max doesn't work with echo dot 3s. If that isn't an issue, pay the extra and get more future proofing and a better experience. If you do want to use a pair of cheap dot 3s as stereo then you have go for a lesser forestick.

  • Same price delivered on Big W eBay if you are quick they have added more stock, 6 available https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/125063776588

    eBay plus only.

    Code TOP5IT

    • Cheers, amended the title to include it as well

    • Thanks! Used a $10 eBay plus coupon…

I think having the volume control is quite important having used the 4K one. I don't think I could go back to having to juggle two remotes.

    • My hisence remote controls my firestick 4k so dont need it unless using voice function

Do these need power plugged into the wall like the chrome cast TV?

    • It's going to need power from somewhere, hdmi didn't have a specification for supplying power last time I checked. I usually managed to use the built in usb but I don't have this device

      • Its not enough to power it, the usb of TV

      • Yeah I was just wondering if it could be plugged into the tv USB port or needs a gpo

        • +1

It comes with a 1.8A (9W) USB power adapter, but I just tried plugging mine into one of the USB ports on my TV and it works fine.

  • does this support streaming or casting videos from websites?

    • The 4k max has a screen mirror function for mobiles

Also you can use the browser app, i managed to stream some videos from my fav pirate site

      • How can the mirror function works, please?

  • this is kinda like the normal price because it doesn't have the volume button.

    • Why do u need volume

      • you don't really, but it is something they intentionally left out to get you to pay more for the next level up.

        • +2

The next level up has more features than just the volume button. I would like to think of it the other way around.. they intentionally left it out and few other features to make it cheaper so that people who doesn't need those other features, can buy it for less… like me! :)

    • +1

The normal price for the Fire TV Stick Lite is $59; if you want volume buttons, the regular Fire TV Stick is $79; and if you want 4K, it's $99 for the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. They're all on special at the moment and the Lite model has never been this cheap. Amazing what it can deliver for under $23.

      • I bought the 4K max off Amazon $79

  • No binge or Kayo?

    • +2

No Binge or Kayo natively. They need to be side loaded or installed through the Kodi add-ons. They run perfectly using either method.

  • You can get the newer Fire TV Stick with volume controls for $45 on Amazon by creating a new account and redeeming the $10 credit in the app

  • Q: already have Google chrome TV.
Would you suggest getting this as well or is one type enough.
    Thanks in advance.

    • +1

One is enough unless you have some particular reason. I upgraded my old android TV (no longer getting Android support) to a Chromecast with Google TV. I have both (CCwGT and the firestick 4k Max) and stayed with Chromecast as I got it first and was used to it. They both do a job well and so did the TV's Android. No reason to get a new Chromecast/firestick for an modern android TV unless you just want to mess about and try them out. I might turn the 4K in a game emulator.

  • It looks like Amazon has stopped selling the Fire Stick Lite. I could not find it on the AU site.

    Benchmark comparison.

    • It’s out of stock from a recent deal at the same/similar price. It was posted on here.

  • $55 on Amazon - version with Volume control. I think the extra 20 odd dollars worth it for this feature

    • +1

The lite version at this price is a perfect buy to take away on hols.

    • It's $24 v $55 for volume control… And with CEC… Most people would use the TV remote to control the Fire Stick… One remote… With volume…

      • My hisence tv remote controls the firestick and its not in a cec port
