Is it large enough to store a body? Asking for a friend…

    • I reckon you can fit a midget in there.

      • Chop chop.

    • Not friends anymore?

Don't forget WELCOME10 to get $10 off and the insulated travel covers 50% off aswell.

  • Could this be used as a permanently switched on spare freezer at home?

    • +1

      Yes, it has AC Adapter.

    • +1

why not but why tho… for 400 you can get a chest freezer 3 times the size of this.

      • +4

Because it doubles as a portable freezer when needed?

      • +1

I want another freezer, but would be good to have something portable if need be. Just wondering if it's not suited to being on all the time.

        • +1

I own another brand of portable fridge, and somewhere in its manual it recommended not to leave it off for extended periods. I’m not sure why that is. Maybe keeps seals lubricated or something? Anyway, I’ve had mine going 24/7 for years with no dramas.

This is another option from Jaycar, Rovin 50l fridge or freezer, $259, think it is rebranded Brass Monkey - 2yr warranty, Bluetooth control and battery compatible, LG compressor, has wheels and handle. Also available on eBay store with 5% off for EbayPlus users and free postage. I bought a 50l and a 30l - both are on sale, will use the bigger one as fridge and smaller as freezer, or just handy to have the small one for shorter trips. Find it more manageable than one dual 80l

I reckon that's worth posting as a deaL on its own fella.

      • +1

Already posted… Be careful if buying via ebay. I rang Jaycar and they said warranty based Ebay purcahses will need to be posted back to the Sydney Warehouse at your expense (and this thing is 18kg)!

Not sure thats how ACL, nor ebay works..But that was the words of the store I rang.

        • +1

Yeah, you ain't paying for that return postage

          https://www.accc.gov.au/consumers/consumer-rights-guarantees…

When a product is too large, too heavy or too difficult to remove, the business is responsible for paying the shipping costs or collecting the product within a reasonable time of being notified of the problem.

          • @XeKToReX: I guess the issue is if the product isn't faulty..or some intermittent issue etc and they make you pay the postage.

But yeah, I took his comment with a grain of salt.

Reading the reviews, plenty of warranty claims, so fair chance of submitted a claim.

    • Thanks for sharing. The 50l wasn't onsale the other day! Bought one via ebay plus. Thanks!

Its not a LG compressor, its a WOMA compressor (cheap Chinese brand)

      • I rang Jaycar and they said its an LG compressor. Can you confirm first hand its not an LG?

        • +1

In short no i cant. However I can confirm the 30L has this compressor
          https://www.womacool.com/productinfo/290458.html
Now if u check the Rovin website you will see the latest models state they have an LG compressor but the older 30L and 50L in these deals doesn't list the compressor brand.
So i dont see why this 50L would have an LG compressor.
I think Jaycar staff may have assumed it has an LG compressor because the new models do

i am keen on getting this, i am just wondering what people do when not being powered of the car?
Does it have a battery, or do you just get a car battery and hook it up?

    • You need to get your own battery. There are many off the shelf solutions but the simplest is an AGM deep cycle type with a charger wired up to your cars battery. I have this system for roadtrips and camping and the fridge will run for 3 days without turning the car on. It will cost maybe $200 for a battery and another $100 for the charger and wiring. You could also get 240v or solar battery charging but i havent found the need yet.

Do your own research, but the more expensive fridges are way more power efficient and better insulated which gives a lot better battery life.

      • do you have any recommendations on an efficient fridge?

        • +2

I recently got mycoolman cep47, it’s currently on special:
          https://www.anacondastores.com/camping-hiking/power-cooling/…

It draws about 0.9ah, which is quite efficient.
Other good brands are Dometic and Engel.

        • I haven't looked in a while so I'm not up to date.

National Luna, Engel and Waeco are all pretty premium but the prices are too!

      • what type of setup do you have @presence?

im just wanting something for 3-4 days max

        • +1

Ctek D250S and a 100Ah AGM battery in a plastic battery box. The Ctek is just screwed in on top and then connected to the car via an Anderson plug. The wiring is all pretty simple.

The Ctek is quite fancy but works well and requires no mods to the car. I could add a solar panel and 240V charging but haven't yet found the need.

You’ll need a battery. Either an AGM or Lithium deep cycle.

I have a similar fridge, Waeco / Dometic brand. The fridge will draw about 20Ah per day.

If you get say 100Ah lithium it’ll last 4 - 5 days before flat, unless connected to solar. You’ll get half that from a 100Ah AGM assuming 50% discharge.

I wouldn’t recommend using a car battery as it’ll be quickly deleted given they’re designed to deliver short bursts of energy to turn over a starter motor rather than to slowly discharge over a longer period.

    • I’d recommend getting something like this:
      https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/114449701834?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mk…

This should be enough to run a fridge for 2 days on a single charge. You can charge it via AC, 12v cig socket or solar.
