What was your best deal ever?

It's time to reminisce!

What's the best deal you ever found out about and took advantage of through OzBargain?

Random question that's striking my curiosity :)

The curreny Aus Post Office 20% off TGG gift card.

  • It's hard to say exactly which is the best, but as a grouping, I think the various Amex Connect deals I got… They were all bloody excellent.
$10ea Gold Class movie tickets x32 (admittedly sold some for profit, making the 20 tickets I have left $free)
    $169 Nespresso Citiz + Milk
    $169 Galaxy Tab 7.7
$209 KitchenAid Stand Mixer (quite a bonus considering I was really starting to get into cooking before the deal, would only have dreamed of trying to justify one)

20% off TGG is also great, but I'm not benefitting directly, it just means I can buy more expensive gear with the soon-to-be-in-laws' money (who are kindly filling my new home's contents).
LG 55LM6700 for $1880 after 20% off. The other $4500 worth will get a good fridge, vacuum, washing machine, misc smaller goods and maybe even an air conditioner, but that might be pushing it.

Btw, I love you, OzBaragain <3

There would probably be a few people who would have the Samsung Galaxy phones on this list too. But those were only for the super hardcore.

  • +2

Don't have just one, but a few: 3 x $20 staples vouchers, free Ubisoft games, Logitech cashback, SSD and HDD from pricesengine (where art thou now?!) and a free mug with a photo printed on.

    • Oh yeah I got that photo mug too! Pretty good if you ask me

    • Yeah, the logitech cashback would be hard to beat.

My favourite for this year was this:

($100 credit for Vodafone phone plans)
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/59716

and this (Free Windows 7 and Office for TAFE)
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/66910

    and this
    Acer Liquid Metal for $128
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/53485

And of course, all of the PricesEngine deals.

The $100 ticketek vouchers I got for a measley $7 (cost of 4 bottles of 1.25L cokes on special!) from that coke unleashed promo!

http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/59759 - I got $2,500 worth of shoes and clothing for around $250 I think it was. To this day I regret buying more. I really like the shoes.

http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/43047 - What I love about this deal is just how it's a tablet that was able to SMS and receive calls for $299 and it was unlocked with free delivery. What really sets this deal apart for me is just how long it was available for. Not only that, but the tablet has held it's value an outstanding amount. A month ago a friend of mind sold his used for $305 - he got to use it and still profited $5.

http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/68504 - 20% off Good Guys gift cards. There is just so many ways to use this deal to your advantage. You don't have to use them now, you can even keep them until EOFY sales or boxing day sales if you wanted.

http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/53696 - My current bedroom TV. Couldn't even buy it for $1000 two months later at a VIP sale. I am very happy with it although it's a bit weird when you turn the TV on and it says firmware update available.

I think if I had to say which was the absolute best deal it would probably be this one: http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/55785. There was quite a bit of stock, quite a few to choose from and it was overall a great deal. The HN was willing to do a buy one get one free on discontinued SLR models that they had in stock. I didn't buy it knowing that I wouldn't use it much at all but when I went home to research the cost I was in shock. The price of one was $100 cheaper than the cheapest online and it even came with another one for free. I could of made $700 buying the deal and reselling. Oh well.

Special mentions: $199 PS3's at Toys R Us (The one where Broden comments), $149 HP Touchpad from Harvey Norman and 20% off Storewide at Toys R Us Moore Park. The Acer Liquid Metal for $128 was pretty awesome too, I am just amazed that it is getting (has?) ICS as well.

+1 to the SGT for $299, mine is still powering on like a champion.

I've been waiting for a worthy successor, but nothing's really piqued my interest to date…I'm thinking maybe SGN when the price drops a little more! ;)

For me, it would be a tossup between:

http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/56832 50% off Stockland gift cards

http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/53845 50% off Bunnings gift cards

    …and last but not least:

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/44969 I got a 1TB 3.5" USB3.0 drive for $35, IIRC along with a heap of cheap (& some free) paper delivered free for a total of $55! :)

    • +2

Yes the stockland giftcards were great. I still have some and will wait until close to their expiry to convert them into Betts Shoe vouchers and use those for school shoes. The Betts vouchers will be valid for another year after they are bought.

      • +1

Smart strategy, I like it! :)

      • Betts are having a 3 for 2 sale and my daughter needed new PE shoes so we went. For $75 initial outlay (or less since there were some free $10 stockland gift cards as well), I got $220 worth of shoes. I would not have bought her the light up shoes for $60 or the fancy black leather flats for $80, but I would have ended up buying her the $80 runners. She is thrilled, not with her runners because I made her get velcro closures and white/silver that the school prefers, but with the $60 light up shoes. I'm pretty happy with that. I have a couple hundred more left to convert into Betts vouchers once I am near that Stocklands.

Nothing better than buying $50 bills with $25 bills. Love discounted gift cards when you know you are going to spend there anyway.

  • My best deal ever was the 3TB External HD for 120$ about 1 year ago <3 Its nearly full thou :(

Also the 323$ 42 inch Big W TV, HP touchpad, Asus Transformer tf101, and all the freebies (shavers, etc etc) :D

  • +1

I was lucky enough to snag one of these from Big W online early last year.
It was a Sony Bravia 32" Full HD LCD TV, with a 160GB PS3 and a bunch of Bluerays for $797
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/37553

Other really good discounts have been gift cards, iTunes discounts etc.

I've probably saved an absolute bundle on lots of games too. That said, I've probably spent alot more than I would have otherwise. The curse of Ozbargain!

  • +18

Unfortunately, I missed out on it, but the best deal I've seen was from a Nigerian prince, who was going to give me $500,000 just for letting him use my bank account!

    • +3

That guy is still around, keep checking your emails.

28cm Le Cresuet for $100 delivered (they are $579 in Myer & DJ's)
    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/62432

At first Amazon tried to pull a bait and switch but after a heated email exchange that lasted several weeks I managed to corner them into admitting that they had been lying about stock availability. They ended up giving it to me at the original advertised price and gave me free shipping. Not only was it a good deal but a win for mankind.

Free router from Mwave! runs and hides
    Actually got my cashback yesterday

  • even though it was a pricing mistake, and not really technically a deal, the logitech g27 wheel is by far the best deal i've gotten and since i saw it on ozbargain, credit should be given where due.

  • +1

Logitech cashback, basically 5 pieces free gears: wireless keyboard, mouse, laptop cooling pad, earphones!

    • +2

    finding this site -

    http://tinyurl.com/ccgeht

    (warm fuzzy feeling)

    • I already knew about it. Thanks anyway.

  • Maybe the '123' promotion ING Direct ran a few years back. Open an account with them and automatically receive $123.00. Simple as that.

Was valid for one day only, saw it advertised in one of the Sydney newspapers and on Yahoo.com.au. No deposit required and the money could be withdrawn straight away.

Occasionally there is such a thing as a free lunch.

  • 320gb PS3 FIFA12 bundle for $199 at the DSE sale,sold the game for $35 so make that $164.

  • +3

    The Dick Smith GameOn sale!
    (hides…)

  • There's a few.
Good guys Vouchers for the iPad (picking it up today)
Couple of hundred dollars back for me and the missus's no-fee bank accounts
Heaps of money from ING (my guess is at least $300 between me and the missus)
Amex Direct gold class tickets (spewing I didn't know you could use non-bank issued cards until the last day)
$50 500gb portable HDD back when these were pretty expensive
$50 voucher from amexnetwork for buying petrol at shell

That's all I can think of so far but there have been many (and also many impulse buys that may not have been justified regardless of the price)

  • One of the best deals for me was

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/17988

I have no idea why it was ignored by most people but I had 4 households involved

Thats 24 tickets a week and the coffee + postage was never over $5

Tickets were given away, sold for charity and some were ebayed

Coffee was given away to a "drop in" centre

For me it was the Boston Acoustics speakers (BA7500G) on sale when Gateway Computers was closing down in Melbourne 2001, I paid $89 for $500 worth, I was an OzBargainer before OzBargain came into existence.

I have since scored every major item listed on this site like the HTC Legend Pricing error, tickets to Singapore for my family of 4 for only $332 and the Sony Bravia 37inch LCD, standing in line at 7am outside K-Mart… those were the days.

  • -6

I am new here. hello everyone

  • I have many but free flights from Melbourne to Sydney return for my family of 5 was pretty good. TGG deal has been good for me, but only because we talked them down a lot in the first place. Logitech was good and also the Absolut deal. I guess all up I have probably saved more than $1000 thanks to OzBargain, but then again maybe I am over $1000 down from all my OzBargain impulse buying!

  • +2

    Staples $20 deal….

  • +1

The LaSenza $20 credits have been pretty good.
So have some EziBUys credits with free shipping.
Katies voucher codes, back when they had free shipping. (Now that it is $100 for free shipping, I won't buy from their website, ever)

I suppose getting a TouchPad 32gb for $149 was pretty decent.

Forgot to say the Tarocash birthday gift voucher deal was great. At first I thought it was just once off, but surprisely I got them in the following two years!

    • Agreed. Bought two shirts using that voucher.

  • Staples deal was a standout. $2.50 for a box of 4 full reams of paper for $2.50 delivered.

  • Easy. 100% Logitech Cashback.

  • mine aint as earth shattering,
    but here it goes.

    Motorola Zoom 32gb for $299
    Logictech triple Fi for $159

I enjoy my triple fi exceptionally.

  • The gift card give aways from stockland last december.
We have 3 centers around here and collected a heap from each one…
@ $10 each it soon mounted up :-)

Logitech N700 laptop coolers @ $30 ea in a Bing Lee bargain bin.. 100% perfect & sealed packaging. http://www.logitech.com/en-au/notebook-products/stands/devic…

  • Probably all the JB 3 for 1 trade deals. New releases for $15-$20 ,and you could trade em in when done.
$5 slabs from Getwinesdirect, free wine from Cracka were nice
$299 Xoom gets a lot of use

Can't remember any specifically from Pricesengine, damn I miss that site

  • Best deal for me is 24 free movie tickets brought by CBA.

TGG gift card deal which a lot people has mentioned of. It definitely saves more than 20% considering Gst and tax deduction are based on invoiced prices.

After reading this thread, I am surprised even though I check ozbargain over 10 times a day, I still missed countless deals.

  • This has taken the cake for my best ever deal, brand new Nokia N9 for $99 from DSE.

I didn't bother posting it up as there is/was very limited stock.
