ANZ Frequent Flyer Black Visa: Bonus 160,000 Qantas Points & $225 Back ($3,000 Spend in 3 Months, $425 Fee) - ANZ Customers Only

4880

Deal link goes to public product page because I couldn't work out how to submit this deal without a link - look at description or screenshot

Found this huge Qantas Points offer in the ANZ app a couple of days ago:

An exclusive offer to ANZ customers only.
Earn 160,000 bonus Qantas Points and $225 back to your new card when you spend $3,000 on eligible purchases in the first 3 months from approval. New card. T&Cs, >eligibility criteria, fees and charges apply (including an Annual Fee, currently $425). Screenshot

You can get to this offer via ANZ Internet Banking in browser, or in the ANZ App.

If you aren't an ANZ customer: I mentioned this offer to a friend who then opened a transaction account and was able to immediately see the offer in their new internet banking and apply for the card. The basic ANZ transaction account is $5 a month, which you can get waived if you deposit $2k into the account each month (doesn't need to stay in the account). You could close the account once you get your bonus points (possibly once you get the card?)

Aside from this massive number of bonus points, card features are:

  • Earn 1 Qantas Point per $1 spent on eligible purchases up to $7,500 per statement period
  • A higher Qantas Points earn rate compared to all other ANZ Frequent Flyer cards
  • Uncapped Qantas Points
  • Complimentary Frequent Flyer Membership and a discount on a 1 year Qantas Club membership
  • Two complimentary Qantas Club lounge invitations each year
  • Complimentary insurances including International Travel Insurance
  • Up to 55 days interest free on purchases

You can see the general details of the card (at it's usual lower offer value) here

I think this might be the highest consumer bonus points offer available at the moment, I certainly haven't seen any higher recently.

If you haven't earned Qantas Points from a credit card in the past 12 months, you may be able to stack with the New Cardholder Bonus of 20,000 points (from Qantas). The ANZ Black card is listed on the relevant page, and it doesn't specify that you have to click through the Qantas page to get the offer, but I haven't tried! The New Cardholder Bonus from Qantas ends on March 31 (there's no end date listed for the ANZ card offer).

Edit: Clarified end date in post applies to 20k top-up offer, not 160k sign-up offer.

                  @M1lad:

$500 doesnt seem that much actually

For Bunnings vouchers, yes (it's not $700 but more than $750 btw), but there are other options. You can, for example, buy an iPhone SE 256GB for 168,000 points which currently retails for $969.

I applied for this card a few weeks ago (March 2nd) and already have it, would I be eligible for the extra points (it was 100k when I applied)?

Probably not considering the cashback was $255 instead of $225..

    • You may have a chance if you were a current ANZ customer at the time of application? I applied 2 weeks ago through the main website and used the "I am customer of ANZ" option so will see if I get the standard points or this special offer.

      • Yeah was already a customer at the time. Maybe I'll reach out to them to see if I am eligible for the extra points

        • +1

Please let us know how you go,TIA

          • @Lionking48: Called them and they said no :(
Makes sense I guess, the cashback amount was different but I would have definitely traded another $30 for another 60,000 Qantas points obviously

        • I actually remember checking the points offer through ANZ internet banking as sometimes they have better offers and at the time of my application it was the same as the website so can't remember if I hit the apply button on the main website or through internet banking, either way, they seem to generate different offer code in their URL:

          Website: https://www.anz.com.au/personal/credit-cards/choosing-the-ri…

Thought i was done churning cards seeing as i cant see any flights i want for the rest of the year… but this one might bring me back

    • +3

      why would you stop?

      • The effort, cop out i know.
Also i find i spend a little bit of extra money on the CC even though i try to be super conscious of it.
Actually i did notice my credit score was down a year ago but now it is better than ever

        • Not ideal but can't you just get Coles/Woolies gift cards to make up any extra you're forcing yourself to spend?

  • I think this is targeted. I'm a customer and don't see the offer.

Edit: NM, I had to do a few more clicks and found it.

    • after login and then click on open a new account, you should see it under credit card. I don't even have a transaction account with them. Damn that I only opened new cc with them few weeks ago.

  • Whats the expiry on this bad boi

  • Damnnnn, just applied for the platinum last month, missing out on 40k bonus points… sad

Interestingly went clicking through the link, eventually it takes you to a section where you can either apply as a new customer or existing customer and the offer clearly stated underneath. So for those who don't have an anz account but maybe have a friend or relative that can open the link for you, might be an option? I haven't gone further than that as the next step is filling out forms.

    • T&Cs say you have to be an existing customer to be eligible so I'd be nervous that they'd refuse to give you any of the bonus if you went through as a new customer… In my opinion it's worth the hassle of opening a transaction account to make sure you get the points.

      • yeh you're probably right, better to be safe than sorry

  • This hurts. Closed the last card 15th of April so I am not eligible until at least the 15th of April. Here is hoping the deal stays for a while…

  • +6

Do not forget to stack this with : https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/688273

With this deal, +20k points if you are eligible, you just need another 5k pts earn to join the Points Club.

    https://www.qantas.com/au/en/frequent-flyer/status-and-clubs…

  • Just applied for the 75k Westpac one this morning. Might just have to spend 4k for Westpac and 3k for ANZ, missus will no doubt help out..

  • I think platinum is a better offer as it's free

    • +1

Sounds like $95 remaining to me - $295 minus $200

      • Maybe talking about Westpac one

  • +1

Does anyone have an idea of income requirements for this?

    • It used to be 75K, but I couldn't find anything in the eligibility. I would like to know it too.

  • Only was offered 100,000 + 30k after 12 months. it appears as 160k in my account then reverts to 100k + 30k when i click on it.

All good, still only 4 months into my cool off period.

Waiting for an ANZ rewards offer to come up again.

  • Thanks OP! Applied for the Frequent Flyer Platinum card today. Called them up and cancelled and have now applied for this :) Hopefully nothing goes wrong with all the account changes…

  • +1

So is this 160,000 pts for $225? Right?
Also what does 160,000 pts get u? Like can u go to USA return on that or does that go for something like 250,000 pts. What’s the going currency?

  • massive! but i am still within my 12 months

    • What 12 months?

      • +1

Cooling off period for collecting another round of bonus points.

        • Is that cooling off applied to any card? ie I am about 6 months in with citi and got 100k when I joined them. Does that mean I got to wait 6 more months to be eligible for this offer?

  • I get offered 160k points, but then on the last step of the application it says up to 130k, with 100k upfront and then 30k on renewal.

    Cancelled.

Check your applications before you agree…

  • Damn just applied for this credit card last Thur. For all those in the same boat, ANZ is saying that in order to be eligible for the 160k points, we will need to withdraw the existing application and submit a new one :(

  • +5

Applied, but I'm mindful ANZ's off shore application processing team is probably the worst in the industry.

I've provided all the requested documents in full, including 3 months of pay advices, and no doubt will now be on the merry-go-round.

  • Well this is a gg for me until next year basically. Great offer. Needed to call up ANZ twice for the QFF Platinum card but I got approved. 11 more months to go…

Another idea is to wait to be eligible for the ANZ rewards card bonuses, get approved for that and since you hold that card you can then be eligible for this offer if it still stands since they have separate exclusion periods.

  • +1

Similar to other posters, when I click the 160k point offer in my login it takes me to the generic page saying 130k points

Will hold off applying for now until know more what going on

    • Do you have ad blocker installed?

      • Interesting hadn't thought about that

Works on my phone which doesn't have any ad blockers

  • Tried bit of googling but not getting a direct answer. Can someone please tell me what is dollar conversion rate for Qantas points. Thanks in advance.

    • +4

Depends what you use them for, flight rewards usually the best value.

Point Hacks says 1.8c but I treat them as closer to 1c per point (maybe 1.2/1.3c?) because I do some economy flying within Aus, which is often less good value (compared to the cash fare)

  • Look this is great for all those anz customers who've never had an anz card in the last 12 months. However, that's not me. What are the next few deals at the moment. I've seen NAB and Citi.

    • +2

Westpac - 75k for $50 for existing customers
St George - 60k for $0 for existing customers
Citibank - 100k for $175 (rumour has it that the AF is partially refunded)
NAB - wait for a promo through The Champagne Mile or Pointhacks (AF is partially refunded)

      • Can confirm the rumour re Citi. Got a partial (80% or so) refund after closure in a couple of months.

      • Thanks. Signed up with Citi today.

    • +1

Who's not had a frequent flyer ANZ card

    • I can't see anything in the T&Cs that says "to ANZ customers who have never had an ANZ card". Can you confirm where you found this.

  • -1

Ensure if applying for an offer, you don’t currently hold and haven’t opened or closed an ANZ Frequent Flyer Black, ANZ Frequent Flyer Platinum, ANZ Frequent Flyer Gold or an ANZ Frequent Flyer credit card in the last 12 months and meet all other offer eligibility criteria

God dammit, still 3 months to go for me from that point hacks one… excellent deal nonetheless

    • damn I wish this earlier before I submitted my application… :(

  • if i have rewards black can i get this?

    • I think so, assuming you can get approved for the credit, ANZ treats rewards differently to Frequent Flyer for sign-up bonuses.

  • I don't really do QFF, but I spose 160k pts is better than the $750 GC

I spose I have to sign up to ANZ for a bank account, can I close it once I got the CC?

Does this card qualify for those bonus Qantas 20000 frequent flyers that was recently posted?

    • +1

This card is listed on the site for the 20k deal so it might stack - just not sure if you have to click through from the Qantas card page. I assume it will work as long as you register for the 20k first but that’s only my guess.

Terms doesn’t say anything except that you need to be a customer. Once the card is active you’re a customer even if you close the account in my mind, but again - just guessing. I’d probably wait until the points credit to be safe.

      • That would be 180k points, i guess I'm setting up a ANZ bank account for 3-6 months err.

  • +1

If you have a BreakFree package, does the annual fee get waived? Can anyone confirm?

    • +1

Yes, it should once per year.

      • +2

They will be phasing out the breakfree package soon

        • A while to go..

'The ANZ Breakfree Package will be discontinued on or about 10 September 2022'

      • +1

Linked the CC to my breakfree loan package and got the annual fee waived..

        • was this done via breakfree team or card solutions?
I spoke with breakfree team and the guy didn't have a clue.

    • hoping to know this also

  • Any existing customer deals for the ANZ rewards cards (the non frequent flyer ones)?

    • I don't think so, they look like they're the same as the public ones to me.

  • Dammit, followed OPs instructions but not getting the offer in app or online banking account….. Anyone else with same prob?

    • +1

Didn't see it in app, but could see it under products and services, when I login from the website

      • Yep clicked there too still not getting it… sigh. Thx anyway

        • +7

Did you click on credit cards? It's not there until you scroll down to pick credit cards

  • Funny question - how i can know the expiration date of my points ? I have around 200k points but haven't use them around one year or so

    • As long as you have some transaction (points from woolworths, qantas health app) that adds points to your account and keep your account active, you should be fine.

      • ^ this. From memory it's transaction (earn OR spend - even if you redeem a gift card at a very crap conversion rate) every 18 months.

  • Any good zero fee first year qff cards going?

    • I've had the Amex discovery that has no annual fee for 10 years maybe? You earn QFF points and there are usually some bonuses when you apply or use a referral link.

      • I mean just to churn and burn for some big bonus points. I already have a free rewards card.

  • I am not an ANZ customer, but would be happy with just getting 130K points

  • +6

ANZ are terrible at CC applications, the process the outcome the idiocy … steer WELL clear imo

    • I am concerned, it took so long last time with them requesting payslips.

    • +2

Yeah, they've been like that for 2 years now. They just don't care how bad they are. It's very weird.

I've had a relative try twice and time out each time. Not rejected, they just are terriblly disorganised and slow. It's a cycle of don't hear anything, call and get told they don't answer the phone, have to send an email, send an email, wait for a reply to say give a time to call back, give a time, don't hear back, then go through the cycle all over again. The rare time they do call back and say what's wrong, you send the extra docs through, then repeat the cycle again. Last time they said it was too long and didn't hear, tried to complain, they argue, you prove them wrong, then they say they will investigate and get back to you. Even complaints are handled the same poor way.

      Bloody useless.

      • +1

yea awful process, had a card where i had enough in the bank to max it and pay it three times over and 'computer says no'

        • Well, your bank balance is irrelevant.

Think of it this way: you are able to spend your ENTIRE balance today if you wanted to. It doesn’t represent any stability for the bank. If you had your eye on a fancy car, it could be gone.

Credit applications focus on stable, recurring income. Not savings.

  • What's the out of pocket money for this card exclude the values for those points..$200 per annual after cashback + Qantas register fee $80?

  • +1

Closed my ANZ Qantas Plat card last week so still another 51 weeks for me to wait :(

    • -5

That's a different card from this. The waiting period for these are separate so you can apply this card

  • -3

can you still just book a refundable flight and cancel it later on or have they closed all those loopholes? still working on my citi 4k spend…

if it's not for the public domain dm me your secrets plz point gods

    • +1

That's a quick way to get black listed
I know people abused the booking.com loophole and got burnt

      • ok, thanks russ

i'm back on the straight and narrow
