I just did a search and found this cheaper on amazon. Looks a bargain at today's prices.

Looks like a good deal to me. I'd have one but I just bough a 2TB Go Flex and can't see the need for another anytime soon.
nice deal - not sure I want to ship a fragile item like this from the US though.
Is warranty international?
DOA is covered and shipping fees are paid by amazon. Not sure about warranty though.
I thought they have International Warranty. But ryantan1121 is right, you don't need to worry about it being shipped from the US. If it's broken on arrival, contact amazon's customer service and they'll replace it for you.
Does this drive need external power or is it powered by USB?
Only 2.5inch hard disks can be powered by USB.
This is definitely a 3.5 inch.
Box comes with power supply.
Mains power supply you will need a us - au adapter tho.
Is it correct to assume the power supply will accept our 240V as opposed to USA's 110?
it'll come with international transformer, but u'll need the adapter.
A quick twist of the plug pins with pliers will see it fitting easily.
The switchmode PSUs that come with these models (I now have two) not only operate from 110-240v with ease, but they also already come with multiple snap-in connectors for each international power point standard!
No pliers or fooling around necessary! :)
Huh?
Looks to be 7200rpm drive inside according to the comments. Deciding if I'll just go with this or pickup slower drives for the N40L.
why would u pick up a slower drive and pay more?

Very slow WD Green 3tb for $186.5 + shipping. Why would you even want a slower drive?
Quieter, cooler, lower power - good for a NAS.
Bingo.
Don't know what hard/soft-RAID you're using but in general, green drives that spin-down quickly aren't recommended for RAID, which have low tolerance for spin-up before flagging a disk as faulty.
Just a warning that I bought a GoFlex 3TB back in November (or there abouts) last year and it's just failed on me with some data loss. If you do use one of these don't use it 24/7 or anywhere near that as they're not built for that sort of use.
So they are no good for NAS ?
I was using mine via USB so I couldn't say. It looked to me like the hard-drive chipset itself had damage (burns) on it.
I think the lesson here is BACKUP YOUR DATA. Whether you use a NAS, internal drive or external drives, regardless of drive brand, don't just have a single copy of any data you can't easily replace.
Agreed - saving externally is not backing up if there's still only 1 copy! Nor is saving 2 copies on the same HDD!
LMAO! If people actually do that, then the human race is even more stupid and closer to extinction than I already thought.
I completely agree, the current prices of hard-drives is what undid me.
Just so you know, External Hard Drives are very bad for backup purposes. Although they do advertise it for backup, however, because the drive been plug in and out all the time, it's actually make the drive very unstable. Plus people always in the hurry as soon as they click remove drive in windows, they move the drive without letting it spin down at all, that's when the drive is most fragile.
They can be fine for backup, just don't have them running 24/7.
For instance, I have an external IcyBox USB 3.0 Raid enclosure, with 2 x 2TB drives in it which I use to store and backup all of my music and movies from my desktop PC. The only times I use it are when I'm copying stuff to it or playing media from it through my DViCO media player connected to my TV and it hasn't missed a beat in the 2 or so years I've had it. :)
Really, though, if you're going to use one of these GoFlex's for backup purposes, you should only use it for that, to backup your files, then turn it off and use the original copy of the file that's most probably stored on your PC, Mac, Laptop etc.
"just don't have them running 24/7."
It's actually the spin-up and spin-down cycles that do the most wear on the platter as the heads come to rest down on the platter as it stops moving.
The best practice to ensure HDD longevity is to not let it spin down for as long as possible (ideally never) in a vibration-less environment where it is running with a constant temperature on all sides of the HDD.

Anecdotally, the hard-drives used in consumer external drives are of questionable quality.
Although nobody knows for sure except the manufacturers but the general (conspiracy) theory is that the hard-drives used in external drives are rejects of factory quality testing, re-purposed for external drive market because they'll be less-stressed and used less often, and hence, likely to survive (just) the warranty period.
Seagate's new 4GB hard-disks were available in external drives long before becoming available as (stand-alone) internal hard-disks.
I just tryed to order 4 for a nas setup but it says australia does not get free shipping? Anyway around this?
I doubt it. Super saving shipping is for US addresses only. I'm presuming the guy who said he got it from 149 above didn't go right through the checkout process.
+1
149.99+12.96 = 162.95, The OP said ~165 deliver which is accurate.
I was talking about darrylxu, not the OP.
US$12.96 for 1 drive to here. Still cheap though.
are they sata? (for nas setup) and you sure you can open them?
It will be SATA and yes you can open them, but normally involves breaking the external case in some way
there is a youtube video that shows you how to open the case without breaking it.
Last week I purchased 2 x 3TB Seagate Expansion external drives for $135 each. I already have one at home and works perfectly!
where did u get that? you didn't post on ozbargain at all = =. Thanks for showing off.
I wanted to post it, however I was busy at the time and didn't get around to it and forgot :(
I got it from Amazon. They didn't have any stock but had it advertised that it would get shipped as soon as they received stock. The next day I got an email saying they were shipped
Where did you get them? Do you have a link?
Really, post receipt please or dont talk smack!
No smack here mate. Screenshot below from Amazon account:
it looks more like $140 + $10 shipping
I got one of those myself 3 weeks ago, also at $139.99.
The internal hdd is a Barracuda XT model ST33000651AS (7200rpm, 64m cache, 6Gb/s).
Its not a Green drive so its safe to be used inside a NAS.
How is this overpriced (even with shipping costs)? Show me a local seller selling a 3tb (internal or external) for cheaper. External USB HDDs do not come with green drives inside so your comment is not valid.
oh they do, the WD elements comes with green drives. Green drive are just some stupid advertising tricks played by WD. I still remember few years back when customers ditch those slow drives.
If you have so much money to spend, just donate all of them to the environmental groups and stop whingeing around here, this is ozbargain, not we love the trees and we are happy to spend a lot more.
says the person who appears to buy quite regularly from overseas? looking at your past posts, you aren't any 'greener'… hypocrite much?
i get this feeling that this guy just comes into random post given neg feedbacks. it isnt the first time i see him with neg comments. being green starts with yourself. do you walk, take train or drive? if you take train and drive. its nowhere near green and you come here and whine about being green? really? how many mobile phones you own? laptops? HDDs? mate. there are tonnes of ways to be green and you come here to complain about being green which is irrelevant.
Lulz @ your poor attempt @ humour
It sounds like you will only purchase items have in your local area. Good luck with that since most electronic goods are not made in Australia.
Go grow some hard drives in your veggie patch, lVl.
Negging… :-)
If you are a mac user and want a FW800/USB2 version, it is running for about the same price:
http://www.amazon.com/Seagate-FreeAgent-FireWire-External-ST…how does $196.41 = $165?
Crud, it was about 163USD when I looked a few hours ago!
Any idea whether the prices for HDD are going to drop any further in the coming weeks?
From what I've read it will still be a while yet unfortunately…
till probably end of 2012 or later 2013
That's a LONG time to wait..
I guess I'll have to get one sooner rather than later
thats Mac Tax!

has anyone tried this bargain? Last time I checked they don't ship electronics to OZ
Seems they don't ship internal drives, but most USB ones are fine. I don't think it's a legal thing, more just which warehouse stock is kept in
I've purchased a few things (kindle, qnap nas, hdds, etc) from amazon its been shipped here fine.
These drives any easier to open than the Seagate Expansion drives without breaking tabs?
yes.. see youtube link above.
is there a youtube link above?
anyone tried to price match it? I want to buy it but dont want to get US adapter.
I want to buy it but dont want to get US adapter.
You won't, see my comment above!!!
Correct, my GoFlex Home was from the UK and came with various adaptors.
Got mine today. Doesn't come with removable plugs so you'll need an adaptor for this.
Hi,
Can anyone of you tell me about the International Warranty? If I'll buy in sydney from Amazon & if EHD will fault, how about the shipping cost or replacement?
perfect, just filled my current ext drive:)
