Welcome competition so we can have cheaper Teslas.

    • +1

Because competition is the reason why all our electricity is almost free now?

  • +3

    RRP is not a bargain.
Many have been banned for posting RRP deals or just for listings or sockpoppeting.

    https://www.nissan.com.au/vehicles/browse-range/leaf.html
Better Company & 8 years warranty on Battery.
Nissan will be there for 8 years but not sure about BYD.

    • Many have been banned for posting RRP deals

You're probably right for the most part, but can you list anybody who has been banned for posting an RRP deal (that wasn't also sockpuppeting or engaging in some other dodgy activity)?

    • How this "deal" is allowed here is beyond me. It's just a new car that's cheaper than a Tesla.

      This is just RRP.

Should I be posting all new products that come out on here as well? With RRP?

      It's a joke.

  • -3

Nothing to see here. Just another piece of shit Chinese car brand.
    Insert body rusting problems here.
    Insert reliability problems here.
    Insert subpar car components here.
Insert chinglish manual and infotainment system here.

    • +1

yeah… shit comes all over the world cause there ain't no shit produced here in OZ any more… call it whatever you want, it's your coal mining money being ripped off at the end of the day… pathetic

  • It is much cheaper than Tesla 3 and it is an SUV. So why isn't it a deal?

    • +2

Seriously? Don't even compare this to a Tesla. I'm not a Tesla fan but to compare this experimental garbage to a Tesla is a joke

      • +1

Then tell me what car can compare to a Tesla and is a deal…

        • -1

Anything not designed in China is a good place to start.

        • +1

Do you expect to find "deals" on cars when there are supply shortages everywhere?

          • @dji1111111: RRP on GPU is a deal due to shortages
RRP on cars is not a deal due to shortages

            • @paulzhang: Supply shortage doesn't apply to all GPUs and doesn't apply to all cars. Certainly won't apply to BYD in Australia.
Let me know when used BYD sells above RRP. Then I'll be convinced this is a deal.
GPUs in demand sell above RRP and therefore it is a deal even at RRP.
How about you use some logic rather than just be defensive because you are from China

              • @dji1111111: Is there any car brand selling above RRP? I didn't see any. So there is no shortage in cars. Is this your logic, if there is any at all?

If there is a car shortage, please name a brand selling above RRP. If no shortage, then there must be some deals according to your logic… Discussions can be so hard!

I never paid attention to this Yuan model, but am seriously interested in Han (Coupe) / Tang (SUV) models. Hope soon, I can see those models launch in AU.

                • @paulzhang: They are around for models in high demand and long waiting period. I've seen plenty of listings on carsales where people got onto early deliveries of high demand models and trying to quickly flip for a profit. Tesla model 3 used to be one

                  • @dji1111111: I know in China, BYD Tang and Han's waiting periods are around 3-6 months. I guess Yuan Plus (or Atto 3) is a second tier model that has saturated production for overseas sales.

        • +1

If Tesla stop innovating for 10 years, then this might give other companies a chance to catch up on their lead. Otherwise, nothing compares to a Tesla for efficiency, software, performance, automation and pretty much any metric that matters.

But $45k for an electric SUV is pretty good value when you compare with an ICE equivalent. The way petrol prices are heading and if you have solar panels, the TKO over 5 years would be well below a similar sized regular ICE car.

      • -1

Car recyclers will love it, will keep them busy in couple of years.

  • -5

FYI, you can't just plug these into a wall outlet and go to sleep. You have to get a electrician in and set it up. Unless you want to charge it for a week to use it every 2nd week.

This goes for all electric cars.

I'm holding out for something like anti-matter warp drives.

    • +1

It takes about 27 hours to charge 60kwh from an ac socket (2.4kw). You can get atleast 12 hours charging a day.

Youre not limited to charging at night, there are plenty of fast chargers in shopping malls.

    • +1

That's not true, you would need to charge this car for about 7 hours each day from a regular 10A outlet to travel 100km (2.3kW x 7 = 16 kWh).
The average commute is about 37km, so you would only need 2.5-3 hours of charging each day to cover this sort of usage.

  • -2

Don't want to start any controversy here, but has anyone ever seen the Chinese drive a Chinese-branded car here in Australia?

Why not, and why do you think that is?

    • +3

20-15 years ago, same question to korean people here.

i could remeber my korean friend recommended hyundai to everyone, and he bought a honda.

      • +3

The question is still valid now. Do Korean here drive Korean cars, German drive German cars, English drive British cars, overseas Australian drive Australian cars?

I think only Japanese overseas drive Japanese cars…

    • +2

No, because they know it's crap. If they are wealthy, they will usually buy one of German luxury brands and if not, they tend to stick to Toyota/Honda. They will all defend the Chinese made stuff but will be the first to flock to buy anything but stuff made in China. Look at their distrust for baby formula and the hoarding of Australian made baby formula.

    • +8

I'm Chinese and i drive a LDV t60 ute. Car market is well established, very hard for a new brand to enter, people tend to buy reputable brands. Race /nationality plays a very small part when making a decision of buying new cars, majority of Australian don't buy Australian cars.

      • +3

        What's an Australian car?

        • +1

oh thats an easy one citybargainhunter

any AMERICAN brand like ford or General motors (holden)……

    • +3

Yes. Plenty of Chinese drive Chinese cars. Use Chinese car parts and tyres. Nothing new here. They buy what they can afford and want. If that means Chinese brands/made; so be it.

      • Given the money, most Chinese people I know prefer to buy German or Japanese brands over domestic products. Just look on the roads in SYD to see this. When I ask them why, they mostly talk about refinement and engine power being better on the import models

      • Yeah right. I'm yet to see a single Chinese car in Sunnybank area in Brisbane. Not a single one over the last few years.

        • +1

That’s ridiculous, I parked next to an MG ZS at Sunnybank plaza today

          • -2

            @jackary: so what? cool story
I find it ridiculous that you think it's ridiculous that I haven't seen a Chinese car in Sunnybank area, yet you have spotted one lol

            • +2

@dji1111111: You’re being ridiculous. Don’t be ridiculous. Stop being ridiculous.

  • The interior of the car looks pretty cool (the white muscle looking lines and the side has some red strings that play different notes when strung). However, very sceptal of how well this car will do 5 years in and whether it'll just rust / software problems.

  • +1

Why such negative comments without even seeing one?

    • I am here to read the specs and comments about this car but just wasted minutes of my life reading those comments

      • 5 downvotes a day is too low for the amount of xenophobia in this thread…

        • +1

Get real Mr sensitive. Nobody said a thing about Chinese. They just mocked Chinese manufacturing and maybe some things that China has done in recent times that received worldwide condemnations. Do you even know what xenophobia is? Based on your ridiculous logic, nobody can criticise anything out of another race or anyone of a different race to their own because people will always pull the racism card.

      • Someone just posted a deal on 'How to beat procrastination'

    • username anti-checks out.

but yeah, it's like the car people are only just NOW noticing the supply constraints the GPU people have

      • -1

Except nobody is lining up to buy a BYD nor am I seeing a sold out listing anywhere? Lol

    • +2

There are negative comments because THIS IS NOT A DEAL… its forum trash at best and mostly just marketing BS

      • -1

Like this one too? Where RRP has 300+ upvote?

        • I can't help your intelligence if you think it has 300 upvotes because these people think this is a good deal and have rushed out to place an order in the fear it will sell out haha

          • @dji1111111: That doesn't need a rocket scientist to work out, generally across the whole car industry. This is to illustrate a like for like post, where RRP is posted.

Appears AU schooling is falling behind not only English and Maths, but logical reasoning too. But then, like you have said, one's intelligence can't be helped.

It is appalling many commentators here are like our politicians, taking a hostile position on PRC goods or the sake of it whilst on the other hand willfully ignore the fact that their household is full of PRC manufactured goods. Should really put one's money where one's mouth is.

            • -1

@[Deactivated]: Name one car deal that has been posted for nothing more than RRP
So what if they are manufactured in China? They are just doing the manufacturing. That's happened for a long time in the history of mankind where stuff are made where labour is abundant and most importantly CHEAP!
If you didn't know basics of what trade is, that is how value is generated where countries revert to importing rather than manufacturing themselves because someone else can do it cheaper.
Would it stop me buying a Panasonic TV made in China? No. Would I buy a Chinese brand TV made in China? HELL NO
So please use what rests above your neck and stop bitching and moaning about people using goods made in China because that is not exactly the same as Chinese branded goods

Haha schooling in Australia falling behind? Is that why I see so many Chinese international students in Australia?
I don't see any Australians or anyone from any nation,in fact, flocking to study or live in China.
Our politicians taking hostile positions against PRC made goods? lol
Are you really that naive or lacking something, should I say?
Even if they did, why would they not? China blocked Australian coal import out of nowhere for no reason not long ago and similar thing happened across agriculture, seafood, wine etc
I guess you just live in a cave and don't know anything outside of your computer lol username checks out

              • @dji1111111: Xiaomi? Huawei (not mostly non existent due to US trade sanctions)? Lenovo? Kogan?

Regarding school… I dont know whether you have realised… Australia is selling its education to ones that can afford it… and I suspect this will reflect on reputation of our education industry in the longer run… Whilst worked overseas as an expat, it was disheartening to hear that people go to Australian university simply because it is easy to get in and those can not make it into their local university as it is very competative…. Well, some are here for the citizenship.

Meanwhile, I also know friends that have completed part of their degree, or a full degree in renonwn colleges in China - TsingHua (well, as well ones went to the US and UK for their MBA)… Very competative to get in…

                Who moved my cheese?

                • @[Deactivated]: I guess you had no comeback with your deficient argument and mocking Australian education in the face of Chinese students flocking to Australia lol
Yes, education must be so wonderful in China that they leave their own backyard to study somewhere inferior. Makes a lot of sense according to keyboardwarrior.
Naming brands is your comeback? What about those brands?
Lenovo? Hmm… right.. I guess by the same token, Volvo is a Chinese car too? lol
Yes, just buy out someone who has built IP and R&D over many many years and call it Chinese brand.

              • +1

@dji1111111: “Would it stop me buying a Panasonic TV made in China? No. Would I buy a Chinese brand TV made in China? HELL NO”

Hows your xiaomi scooter going? lol

                • -3

                  @Buy Buy Buy: I don't know because I don't have it anymore.
I never said I don't buy any Chinese branded stuff. Thanks for proving for me that im not making xenophobic comments lol you did all the hard yard for me, my little slave.

I certainly wouldn't buy a Chinese branded car at this stage nor would I buy a TV.

            • @[Deactivated]: I don't mind buying junk chargers and cables from 🇨🇳. They're cheap and can easily be replaced.

I wouldn't touch a junk 🇨🇳 car brand made in 🇨🇳 unless it was engineered or designed in 🇯🇵, 🇺🇸 or 🇩🇪.

              • @rektrading: One thing people tend to ignore is the cost of it… not everyone is privileged and able to spend $60k+ on a car… Similarly, the rant on MG and Haval… They are providing a product, and clearly there is a market for it.

Many of these cars are barely doing local shopping commute.

In terms of reliability, I suspect BYD would have more real world testing data than any other car manufacturer on EV. They are commonly used as taxi in Asia and Europe, as well consumer vehicles. Unfortunately, Australia (and some that never been out of the country) is somtimes such a backward country that is not even funny… Kerb side chargers have been introduced across europe and Asia years ago to encourage take up… BYD is one of the major EV manufactureres to have been adopted in many countries outside of the PRC.

It is hard to comment on quality/reliability without seeing them on road, or seeing them first hand.

  • +9

No matter how shitty this car is supposed to be I welcome some competition, advertising and innovation in this space and look forward to the future.

  • +3

I dont care that it is Chinayz as most things are. What is irritating is that servicing is being done at Kmart tyre and Auto. Which means they are not even bothering to establish a presence in Australia. So no thanks.

You want to sell cars here, then set up here and do the right thing! Be a Man!

  • +2

Probably won't get the BYD EV (never say never), but I guess it's an important car that may put pressure on other brands to lower their prices or at least set the tone for pricing.

  • +4

Not a deal. Just normal price.

  • +1

How is the battery cooled please? Active - Liquid or passive?

    • +1

Said to be liquid cooled, so +1 over a LEAF

  • +4

    Chinesium car @ RRP

  • It 👀 like the 50 cent army has banded together on WeChat and voted for RRP as a deal.

    🇦🇺bargain as fallen.

In other news. The CCP is about to take 🇹🇼 for their GPU 🏭. RRP GPU coming soon.

    • In other news crying Karen complains about GPU shortages affecting her gaming and shit coins

      • There is no GPU shortage. There never was.

It was that gamers that didn't want to pay the price on the sticker. The supply is there but not enough buyers.
        https://www.ozbargain.com.au/tag/video-card

      • hahaha, you don't get it, that re_t_a(r)ding chinese hater mean GDP not GPU, many of this kind of chinese haters are older, have low education level and also are chinese origin.

    • +1

Happens everywhere where there is any criticism of anything out of CCP. They will spread like fire and create BS everywhere to censor or influence the masses

  • +3

    Well this post escalated quickly.

    • +1

      Yup went downhill quick.

Didn't realise we had that many MAGA types on ozb.

      But there you go.

Not clear if the pricing issue is from BYD or the local distributor trying to gouge on the initial limited run.

Anyhoot, can't wait for the local reviews.

  • +3

BYD is a fine brand they are the largest EV manufacturer and are the major producer of electrical buses.

  • +5

Just found OzBargain's latest media release:
To celebrate the launch of OzRRP.com.au we have partnered with EvDirect to bring you this BYD vehicle priced more than $15,000 than previously indicated in 2021. Whilst some may call it click bait advertising, page views and commments have far exceeded our team's expections…

    • correct!
BYD Atto 3 EV CN market price: RMB150,000 = AUD $32,993
is 7 yrs warranty really worthing $15,000?

      • +1

no it's economies of scale and logistical costs/govt taxes.
i don't know why people act so surprised about the australian markup have you seen the prices of cars in the US compared to here? you can get a BMW M3 for 70k USD which is about 100k. Here you are looking at 160k+

        • +2

Ldv t60 sold similar rrp in china and australia. BYD not even trying. Most likely be just sell evdirect some cars and see how they go in australian market.

    • Ahhh that's why my neg was reported and removed!

  • +1

@ruanjiangongren Totally agree on what you said. China is able to manufacture both good quality and bad quality products that is just depending what customer need. Like Kmart or BigW they just ask Chinese manufacturer to produce the cheap stuff whereas like Apple they ask for the best quality product.

  • Does it mine bitcoin?

  • +4

    Oz RRP

  • +1

RRP and not a good product. The drive train efficiency is nearly that of a golf kart.

  • +1

Finishes specified as leather styled or leather may contain elements of
genuine leather, polyurethane (leather substitute) or man-made materials or a
    combination thereof

    lol

    • +2

      So, not unlike BMW

  • For those wondering, the top spec RRP in China is 35k~ AUD. The base model is around 31k AUD.

    • Volume means cheaper.

  • +6

people keep commenting on how bad the car is but they have never even driven it.Just basing stuff out of thin air.

I would like to see an aussie company come up with a car under 50k that is remotely as good as this
People keep bagging "chinese" quality but I can almost bet 90% of their household items are made in china or somehow have a Chinese-related part in it.

I am not saying i am buying one but the more competition the better it is for everyone.

If australia made this car it would be well over 100k with our labor rates.

    • No one has really driven the atto 3 either, have you?

  • -1

Unless relations get better, I don't my new BYD to be vandalized, so staying away from now.

  • +1

I don't see the deal here. An item sold at the standard price by the distributor.

Nothing to do with race, where the item is made, etc.

I just don't see the value.

    • 100% correct. There is no deal here.

  • +1

    Thanks OP, ordered one.

  • +1

Hopefully they remove the Build Your Dreams and put a BYD badge instead.

    • It's been confirmed, it will be the full build your dreams
