  • Tesla fanboy here.
I don't like it, but I'm all for more competition.
That interior design is a real head scratcher though, from the outside it's not a bad looking car IMO.

  • too risky to buy this company/brand… unless it is half price or 2/3 from this price.

  • Very good for the price, hopefully it will bring ev price down more with competition. Keen to see if the deliveries will be meet in July.

  • +7

If you want INFORMED information on BYD and this car, watch a guy on youtube, the electric viking. Yes, he is a BYD fanboi, but actually knows what he's talking about, unlike 90% of the crap people in the comments are posting. BYD is a great brand and I'm glad they are in Australia finally.

I don't get how this a deal though when the CEO of EVDirect had always stated a under 40k starting price and the cheapest EV in Australia then jacks the price….. I for one am disappointed…..

    • +2

yes, bit short sighted i think at this price, was hoping it to come under 40k DA

    • +4

      That's the issue here. He's selling a $35k car for $45k.

  • Hmm. I wonder how long they'll wait to start substituting inferior parts?

  • Not worthy
The price is 30% expensive than in china

    • did you see Tesla's (and Hyundai and Kia's EVs) Australia Tax? I hate all of it, but 30% seems to be the norm here.

  • Damn scrolling through the comments you wouldn't think this was a bargain hunting site!

    • Hello Mr. Marbles. Thank you for your patronage. As a show of goodwill, we will refund you this month's OzBargain Premium membership charge.

      • -8

Can find the time to make glib comments but not to actually nuke this 'deal' off the main page…

        • +3

Ohh,,, they don't want to incur the wrath of the 50 Cent army…

This is a SHIT DEAL for a SHIT CAR and still on the front page.

          • @dealman: I enjoyed his performance at the Superbowl.

        • I always have time for glib comments or giphys when I'm short on time. This deal meets posting guidelines.

On a side note, having just checked my Twitter feed and spotted that this appears to now be the cheapest EV car in Australia.

          • +1

@neil: And so is E10 fuel. That doesn't mean it's any good.

          • @neil: Mandela effect strikes again… for some reason I thought the MG ZS EV was in the 30Ks.

I'm here for those comments :)
I'd been working at a Chinese Uni for 3 years, and I bought an XPeng G3 there, the Guangzhou government offered 100,000 yuan rebates back in 2019, so I paid only around $22,000 for it, and I love that car, a pretty good deal. I left it in China for 15 months due to the Covid, and when I went back, I started it and drove it for around 1km to charge it, which I didn't expect.
Also, a BYD, I never drove one, but it's very popular as a taxi in China, and far as I know, the battery is better than XPeng in general.

    • +5

i have a friend who went back to china during covid. bought a G3 with the rebates with 12 months free charging for about 30k aud. there's so much incentives that makes EV so much more affordable there and in a lot of european countries australia really falls behind in that regard

      • Yes, forgot to mention, XPeng offers 3,000 kW·h a year for free

      • It’s a different game here with cars though. Where I live electric cars get free rego and stamp duty, and obviously no EVs contribute to fuel excise. So while people aren’t being given thousands of dollars in cash, they are still costing the coffers thousands of dollars through reduced taxes. Some states more than others.

    • XPENG and NIO are superior cars to this, we all know they exist, just not in the AUS market.

      • +1

xpeng is on par with BYD in market segment and price, Nio is more upmarket/premium more in line with tesla. Have heard a lot of good things about xpeng though probably would buy it over BYD if available

  • It looks like a POS but I gave this an uppvote to hype this thread hahahaha

  • I will wait for a price drop after launch

  • +2

Sorry OP, what is the deal again?

  • +3

These comments are pretty emotional for a car

The bottom line is that the majority of the Australian car market is price orientated

When first launched, Hyundai Excels sold for $10K. MG is currently ranked 9th in VFACTS not because of their name or quality

These BYD's will sell well once dropped to $30K and even quicker if petrol stays around $2/L

    • -5

The 50 cent army only serve one god.

  • +8

Just posting this comment for awareness.

  • 0 to 100km in 7.3sec for an EV is very slow by today's standards, no deal.

    • +1

yeh very stupid performance figure, they missed the whole point of EV.. elon musk used these 3 pointers to sell EV to the masses and he always said it:

      1. they are faster
      2. cheaper to run
      3. cost the same as an ICE vehicle

that last one is getting there, but tesla damn sure meets the first two points. same cannot be said for the BYD or the MG offering.

id take the base tesla for a few more thousands

    • are you sure you're not confusing it for others' 0-60km times? or high-speced models that are usually shown in ads? the only other EVs close to this price are

      MG ZS EV: $43k++ 0-100 8.2s
      Nissan Leaf: $50k++ 0-100 7.9s

    • Couldn't care less about this car but a 7.3s SUV is quick even for ICE. Previous gen Golf GTI did 0-100 in only a second faster and that's a sporty hot hatch with a few hundred less kgs to pull.

The top of the line Skoda Karoq which is roughly the same price does it in 7.3s.

Most affordable EVs aren't very quick. The acceleration feel will be different because of how power is delivered but they most EVs aren't Tesla quick

  • +2

New cars and makers have to start somewhere. I remember all of the negative press about Hyundai when they started selling cars. Indeed their first offerings weren’t great. The glovebox was like a tic tac box lid with no hinges just flexible plastic. People wouldn’t buy Datsuns because they hadn’t heard of them before and the 1600 and 180Bs turned out to be damn fine cars.

Thanks for putting this out there and I’ll be interested to see how they go. The seven year warranty is reassuring and they look like an innovative product.

  • +1

Just need another international incident with China politics and you wouldn't want to be seen in one of these. Sure a lot of stuff out of China is pretty good and this does look reasonable as an EV but too big a risk…

    • Valid point. There’s actually a risk that the political situation could affect the maintainability of the car long term

      • +1

I wonder if any Taiwanese or Philipinos would buy one of these. I'd even go as far as being worried about it being vandalised and targeted in the extreme.

        • +3

what a sad state of affairs if people are resorting to vandalism based on a brand you buy, ultra nationalism is deliberately incited unfortunately in many countries for political motives. very CCPesque

        • I wouldn’t think so tbh. But maybe in actual Taiwan after losing a war to China and being taken over. Then maybe

        • I know Taiwanese people and travelled around it, not sure why you think Taiwan people boycott China.

Most of Taiwan's biggest companies operate in China.

        • Consumers in those countries are just like any consumers around the world. They look for what they can afford. If a Chinese car fits their needs they will buy it.

          • @t25: No doubt, and that BYD will sell these quite reasonably. I buy a bit of gear from China. However it is such a big item that stands out when it's out and about that if an explosive international incident to occur, I'd want to be driving something else.

            • @x d: I think most of the world is rather sensible and pragmatic. A few years ago, when there was major anti Japanese sentiment/protest in China, Chinese owners of Japanese vehicles were targetted/vandalised.

  • Made in China lmao

    • +1

      Made in Aus lmao.

      • It’s not made in Aus

        • +2

What is actually made here these day?

          • +3
          • @crazyperpman: There’s actually more than you would expect when you have a look into it. It’s worthwhile buying Australian when you can. Either Aussie made or Aussie owned/designed at least. We especially design a surprising amount of world class aftermarket car components, particularly considering the government’s stance against modifying cars here

            • +2

@rhino015: Made in Australia by immigrants Lmao

              • @dadazd2003: Everyone here either is an immigrant or descends from an immigrant if you go back far enough haha

    • +3

So you’re laughing yourself for wearing and using stuff made in China? Pathetic poor…

    • +1

I am having troubles buying an Australian-made car. Any idea where to find one, ev is good but anycar will do, must be new though.

    • +1

Why you gotta make fun of my Tesla model 3 mang.

  • +1

Are they actually in stock or do you have to wait 12-24 months for delivery like every other car these days?

    • +1

No stock, early July for first customers who preordered and were on the EVDirect mailing list.

  • There are lots them at an empty lot near the Sydney airport, all green colour though.

    Edit: those are e6.

  • Lol @ RRP… Let me guess, being in demand makes it a deal? Or is it just the fact that it is cheaper than a Tesla?

    • +2

This deal is like posting a deal for E10 fuel @ $1.70

Yes it's cheap. That doesn't mean it's good.

  • +7

Looks like the mods are supporting RRP awareness posts so I might as well post a deal for a Honda Civic.

    • I'D LIKE TO SPEAK TO YOUR MANAGER!

      • +1

        How can I 🆘?

  • +1

RRP is not a bargain unless it is on a high demand products such as GPU

    • +3

If driving this car may as well have a ccp flag out the window.

  • Does it really say "build your dreams" on the tailgate?

    • +2

      That the company name. Cringe.

      • yep, cringe.
BYD is fine but "build your dreams" just seems too… dunno, try hard.

that would be a delete from any potential order for me.

        • Also unfortunately Honda has been using "the power of dreams" in their promotional campaign for ages so whilst don't know how long BYD has been around, it now looks like a copy of Honda's philosophy.

  • +3

Btw, racists is the catch all word for all comments disliked by CCP because CCP bundles political party, government, race, language all together. Whatever you have negative opinion anyone of them, you are a racist.

That is how CCP brainwashed people so they contained all negative comments against the government.

    • Yeah you logically can’t draw the line at being unable to criticise anything anyone does if they’re a different race to you. That is silly

    • +1

Yes and they employ people to troll the Internet. I would love to see how many people actually buy this car despite the number of upvotes.

  • Need more deals/awareness like this to drive the price down.

    • +2

It's unfair to single out BYD. Warren Buffet is invested in BYD so it must be 👍. Trust Buffett because he wouldn't invest in a 🔥 trap.

      • +1

To be fair Buffet isn’t an expert in car manufacturing. His interest is not related to the quality of the cars. It’s purely about thinking the value of those stocks will go up. Look at the market cap of Tesla. It’s completely unrelated to the balance sheet even. Speculation is the vast majority of the value. He could be betting that speculation will make those shares skyrocket and that’s it

    • News: Tesla Model 3 driving range reduced for Australia
      https://www.drive.com.au/news/tesla-model-3-driving-range-re…

      • Wonder why

    • +3

Because no Tesla has ever caught fire, nor any Hyundai or Ford or Toyota.

      • +2

        hahaha…. These guys.

One of the saddest thing I read.

Hyundai had a recall recently for their vehicles, the Tuscon in particular, just spontaneously combusting in people's garages and driveways.

        • +1

No news since 2019 on this. What happened?

Terrible but bizarre no more news.

  • +6

Rrp on a not high demand item is not bargain

  • +4

    No deal here just rrp

    • -2

      Bargain. It is a bargain.

  • +3

I dunno whats saltier, the comments, or the mines the Lithium salt mines used to make the blade batteries.

  • +3

This is like 50% more expensive than the price in China

  • +2

Lets face it, if these Chinese E Cars are this cheap, the better made alternatives from other makers may start to drop their prices.

  • PEOPLE STOP BITCHING. THIS IS OZBARGAIN NOT OZDISCOUNT

  • +10

This is not the 35k price they were touting, not worth at this price. This is not a bargain by any imagination.
