Are you suggesting that the CCP has significant influence over Tesla because they have a factory there in the way that it does over Chinese companies? Seems a bit of a stretch. I can’t imagine Elon agreeing to manufacture there if it meant surrendering any control over what the company does

      • Don't want one of those either - although Tesla in China is wholly foreign-owned, admittedly it only operates with the blessing of the CCP.

The world's on the verge of being flooded with non-CCP/Tesla EVs. My cup will overfloweth.

    • Please just buy Made in Tamworth horse rideshare

You do realise BYD and Tesla are publicly traded…?

Which means your your outrage knee jerk CHyna Car CCP BAD exemplifies your ignorance on fundamental business basics let alone macroeconomics

FYI public companies means you have no say over which nationality you hate, owning that company

BYD is also 60% US owned not that it matters 🤦‍♀️

      • BYD isn't HQ in the US. BYD is revenue shifting to its HQ in Shenzhen.

They deserve all the criticism they can get.

      • No CHyna eev vee for me

Everything in CHyna is owned - ultimately - by the CCP

But you party on with what you want to buy Garth

Interesting review on what looks like the same car https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u1mGyaJxIMI. I like the inside design, something different.

    • Thanks for sharing this video.

Spoiler alert: Tesla fanboys aplenty in this thread.

Say good BYE to the BYD brand by 2023. So many underwhelming features in this car. Especially the unknown warranty and a very uncompetitive price.

    • +3

This has every single feature any other brand would love to charge $5k+ extra for yet they include everything for no extra costs.

Are you going to be back here to admit how wrong you're going to be?

      • Umm just to list a few
*range quoted in nedc not wltp. So real testing range is closer to 320km.
*Cheapest MG has car play / android auto. This doe not
        * basically a grey market import. No manufacturers warranty
        * no claim of 5 star Nacap rating. In fact no safety testing details given at all for Australia.
        * underwhelming performance

If you’re happy with a few gimmicks and to part with some big $$ go for it. When it comes down to it you want a car that is going to be reliable .Plenty of other great cars available for a similar price. They talked this car up last year saying it would be in $30-$35k price range.

        • +2

The lack of an ANCAP rating is a dealbreaker to me.

          • @donm: Hmm yeah so this must actually be exactly like the Japanese car importers that just sell grey imports individually complianced. Otherwise I think any ADM car has to go through ANCAP. Unless that’s changed

            • @rhino015: As far as I know ANCAP testing is purely voluntary. There are other cars on the market without ANCAP ratings, such as the MG3.

I'm hoping the Atto 3 will be tested eventually, but they haven't had the opportunity yet.

  • +5

How can you say $44990 when it ends up being $47000 after stamp duty and other fees. You lying to me already BYD.

  • +4

Same model is less than $30000, around $28000 in China

  • +7

It’s $45k ($48k for long range one) for TAS if you go and pick it up in Hobart $495 delivered elsewhere in TAS! Looks like only 6 months rego judging by the rego price (despite saying 12 months in FAQ).

That ‘dragons beard’ interior (what a load of designer & marketing BS) has me thinking it’d feel like Jonah inside a whale with that ‘whale guts’ dashboard. Looks chintzy, easily breakable and impossible to repair once it does. The rotating tablet is a nice feature (take note Polestar!). Photo’s are slick over informative.

Yes tow bar, but they don’t sell them - WTF? How much can it tow? Zero accessories.

No pricing on the annual (old school) servicing.

Not impressed with the battery warranty (though they do mention 70% at 10 years in the FAQ), charging rate, how support is handled (how long will that deal last) and particularly the price (not cheap enough to counter the disadvantages. Needs to be 10 k cheaper. I don’t see any evidence of any cost saving for not having dealers involved. Seems like the importer gets all the benefit of that.

The whole operation still has warning bells ringing loudly. Still smacks of being run by one bloke out of a ‘rent an office space’. Which might be ok if the online presence were there, but that’s still pretty feeble. You want it to work, but where’s the reward for the purchaser for taking such a huge risk on a new (to Australia), unestablished product?

    • +1

Correction - the rego is 12 months (it had the reg & insurance components listed separately).

Note - says in the FAQ 2-5 weeks delivery after order, but July on the order page.

    • Ignore the FAQ, the actual warranty on the car is 7 years inlc battery. Its stated on the car's landing page

      • Yes but having stated that in the FAQ they have effectively given a 70% @ 10 years according to Statutory warranty rules. Very silly thing to do and if they have any sense they'll remove it.

        • Might be worth saving that to the Wayback Machine

I own a BYD T3 for 2 weeks, just clicked over 1000k. Upgrade from a VW caddy. Construction seems as solid as most manufacturers. Finish is actually a little better than Tesla in my opinion. i.e bonnet gap is the same all the way around etc. Suspension is very firm but once loaded rides really well. Acceleration is faster than diesel caddy and 300wltp is on the money. With NSW rebates and g.s.t vehicle comes in at $30k, which will pay for itself in 3 years as a work vehicle.

    • Speed limited to 100km/h?

  • +2

    Poor and misleading advertising.

  • Specs include “VTOL mobile power supply function”

    Vertical take off and landing!

  • -3

Scam. There are no dealers for BYD in Australia. Warranty and servicing are in the drain.

  • +2

I mean literally same as posting a PS5 deal since this is RRP, but a lot less whingers over there than here? That is just posting for awareness too.

  • The MG ZS EV for July 2022 (same time as this one) looks like it'll have better standard range and extended range. It also has a better head unit with android auto and carplay.
Same price too but looks a lot better.

  • BYD?

BYD Co. Ltd. ("Build Your Dreams") is a Chinese manufacturing company

    Trash.

    • +8

BYD is not trash. It's one of the biggest and most respected EV/Battery manufacturers in the world. The make a lot of the world's EV buses and trucks. Warren Buffet is an investor (as am I). Very good company with strong prospects.

The name is shit, but so is LG (Lucky Goldstar). No one thinks twice about buying an LG TV.

      • -7

        It's defiantly confirmed trash now.

        • Oh I didn't realise you were more successful and knowledgeable than Warren Buffet, my mistake.

          • -3

@[Deactivated]: Buffet and his BBF Munger are dinosaurs. They understand as much about tech as Gates is a doctor.

            • @rektrading: Maybe, but I understand tech and finance and I know that BYD is a strong company that has a bright future. The fact that you didn't even know about it shows your ignorance.

        • +1

        • No, you clearly don't understand.

          • @[Deactivated]: I understand fine, I just disagree with you. Don’t patronise me.

            • +1

@jackary: You clearly deserve to be patronised. Especially when showing extreme ignorance and then doubling down.

              • @[Deactivated]: I can only repeat that I disagree with you. It’s sad you have to be so childish.

                • +1

@jackary: I would say forming an opinion based on zero understanding or even basic research is the childish act. Doubling down more so.

                  • @[Deactivated]: And perhaps unsurprisingly, I still disagree with you. Move on, pal.

                    • +2

@jackary: Forming an opinion based on pure ignorance, seems like you've done this before. Best of luck in life chief.

                      • @[Deactivated]: It’s like you’ve known me my whole life. An excellent character assessment. Thank you, champ.

      • BYD is big but their cars are ugly. I dont know if people will migrate to thier cars instead of tesla or nio or xpeng…

    • +2

Most electronics and car parts are manufactured in China. Guess your life in general is "trash".

Not to say the least you are on Ozbargain lol.

      • +1

I'll take a Tesla over BYD any time of the week and twice on Sundays.

        • +1

me too, where do i get one for free?

          • +1

            @May4th: You need PoW.

            • @rektrading: probably better for PoS for an EV

              • @May4th: PoS is what the feds are doing now. They click-click and billions are added to the budget.

                PoW requires actual work.

      • Are you mistakenly equating manufacturing location with company base of operations?

By that logic we should never buy anything from
Anywhere else other than China since their prices are the cheapest for basically anything, and basically every type of product has been made there at some point. Surely that’s not your position

  • +6

What is the deal here? It doesn't show 20% from normal price neither it gives warranty above standard warranty such as 10 year warranty just for this month.

This is simply advertisement not the deal.

  • Tesla M3 is far better for resale value.
If you want bigger, go EV6

    • +1

      lol $90K for EV6 isn't much better.

      • 65k

        • Base model is $68k plus onroad costs, so around 73k (much less features)

GT Line RWD is 75k plus ORC and Luxury car tax, around $85k

GT Line AWD is 83k plus ORC and Luxury car tax. $92k

          • @yellowfever: $92k is way too much for an EV6. You can get Model 3 performance for that, different league of car/performance.

Base model EV6 should come in at Tesla SR price ($60k, GT AWD should be Tesla LR price $80k max).

  • +2

    Buy junk, pay twice.

Do yourself a favour and buy something that has been tried and tested.

    • +2

BYD probably has the most experience of all EV companies after Tesla. They know what they are doing.

      • -1

Second place in a match is what people call a loser.

        Did your team win?
No, they came after the winner.

        • +2

Very mature, I'm sure you're a real winner in life.

          • +1

@[Deactivated]: Why would anyone drop $45,000 on untested junk when they can pay a bit more for a tried and tested brand designed by an engineer that buidl the fastest production EV in the world and rockets for a fun?

            • +3

@rektrading: This car isn't untested. BYD knows what they are doing. I wouldn't buy one of these personally for $45k, but that doesn't mean it's a bad car. And there is a big difference between $45k and $66k. That's a whole other car in between. And you can hardly compare an SR+ to a Plaid or a Falcon 9.

              • +2

                @[Deactivated]:

I wouldn't buy one of these personally for $45k,

                Yes.

People shouldn't shill what they don't want to buy themselves.

                • +1

@rektrading: Who is doing that? I've never recommended anyone buy this car. I think the price is too high for what it is. If it launched in the 30s, sure, not for Mr, but for the masses. But BYD as a company, is great. That's been my argument from day dot. Try and keep up.

                      ahh..
so do we put the same disclaimer indicating you're a 'shill' for your tesla and crypto posts?

                      • @SBOB: I don't own TSLA.

I want TSLA to do badly so that my order at <$800 can be executed. I would love for TSLA to drop -50% from here so that I can load up on cheap stonks.

                        • @rektrading: fine, just your crypto posts then ;)

                          • @SBOB: I tried to get the CEO of Bitcoin to hire me but can't find their contact information anywhere.

May be the mods can add an I am associated with Bitcoin. For full disclosure and all of that.

                  • @[Deactivated]: I think factoring in price is always part of the picture though. If the quality doesn’t warrant the price then you can either say the quality is poor for the price or you can say the price is poor for the quality. In a way it’s two sides of the same coin. So people come at this from different sides but their views might not be as different as they think

            • +3

@rektrading: Because this forum is full of CCP stooges who are a touch too sensitive if they hear the truth about BYD.

  • Damn, 22 negs. That's the real bargain.

From all the mechanics I have spoken to, Chinese car manufacturing has a LONG way to go. Would not touch

    • +2

how many mechanics have you spoken to, numerically?

      • +2

4 individual mechanics, including a few friends and local mechanic who services my car

Oh, also a friend of a friend who works at one of the leading Chinese car manufacturers. He told me he would never buy one

        • -2

Woah, shit! Not 4. That’s sooo many, that’s crazy!

At least your friend of a friend who knows a guy is totally legit.

          • @pegaxs: I met the bloke at my mates birthday party. Good on ya though champ. Enjoy your Beijing billy cart!

            • @kev98: Oh, that's ok then. A random guy you met at a party said "cHiNa CaRz aRe sHiT"… Well, I'm sold. You have convinced me to jump ship.

Next time I am talking to someone, do you mind if I too also use this genius as a reference? "This guy on the internet was at a mate of a mate's place, at a party where some random guy told him all Chinese cars are shit…" Very solid source of information.
