I would have loved to dockerise or move it to lambda but it’s not possible.

The iPhone needs to be connected to the host machine for the way the communication works

        • Fair enough. I know zero about the details of this kinda stuff, but if you happen to release any docker work in the future, I will definitely be supporting where possible.

    • +1

on the map, can the user move the location pointer before spoofing the location? (so there are not thousands of users using the exact same co-ordinates)

      • +2

Is this to me? Because the answer is absolutely yes.

The fuel dropdown list just gives you coordinates to the suburb with the cheap fuel. You can drag and drop the marker on the map and the coordinates update automatically.

Only thing I haven’t implemented yet is free text search. So if you type “Parramatta” ideally it looks up coordinates first, but if it’s text it will use a map provider to search the name to coordinates.

At the moment this is a nice to have. It’s just been playing up and I’ve been time poor focusing efforts on other core functions

The latest version of 3uTools 3.08 released yesterday has in its release notes:

Virtual Location now supports iOS 17 devices.

I tried it on my iPhone 14 Pro Max on 17.2.1 and yes it successully moved my location. But I am yet to try it with the app has I have a current fuel lock.

    • Didn’t work for me, error -303 on ip13 17.2.1

  • +1

Ok, after reading through some of the most recent comments here's something that I tried and it worked. First, I tried to lock the cheapest petrol in my state (VIC) and it worked. Second, using my other account I changed my location to WA via a VPN and then used 3utools to change the location for the 7/11 app. I was surprised to see that it worked! Give it a shot and see if it's working for you too. Cheers :)

    • Great , what VPN did you use to get a WA location ?

      • +3

I tried NordVPN, and it worked.

      • +2

        I used Windscribe

        • +1

The VPN is on the mobile device right?

  • +1

Locking within same state worked for me.

  • I tried to lock WA and received the A01 error (I've always used 3uTools on my PC to spoof my iPad's location). Changed the location to the cheapest suburb in my state and it worked first go. I think the App has logic built in which checks where you're normally filling up.

    • +1

switch off wifi and use your mobile data

      • Doesn't work for me using Iphone se , 3utools. and moble data . got AO1 error

  • I tried to lock my state.Still got A01 error😩

  • Getting G09 errors even when im creating a new account with gmail with iOS
    Any solutions?
Tried VPN, wifi, mobile data - still getting it

    • The iPhone itself has probably been red flagged. I know that when this happens with an Android you can use apps to refresh the Device ID that is read by the app.

I am not sure if something similar is available for iOS though. I'd imagine it might require jailbreaking anyway but I don't have any iOS devices so I've never had to look into it.

    • Same thing happened to mine. Chances are, they have found a way how to ID your device and 'perma banned' your iPhone. Unless you get a new phone every time. 7-11 are getting very serious about this.

    • +1

I had this last year with one of my accounts. I was able to factory reset my iPhone (apparently factory resetting gives you a new device id) that I use to lock in and I haven't had any bans since. I also lock for my folks, and the max accounts you can login and lock prices from one phone for seems to be 2. Noticed I got banned last year when I tried helping a cousin lock in petrol from my same iPhone.

  • Looks like the good times are really over. At least you can still get the lowest price in your state which is better than nothing I suppose.

  • +2

So I used Refinery to try lock a price in WA. Using 3UTools from VIC, I was getting A01. I was getting it consistantly, and from a 2022 post suggesting only 2 locks within a period of 24 hour, even after waiting 24 hours the A01 error persisted. I then used my Windscribe VPN to connect to Perth… As soon as I did this and tried to lock the price lock from WA worked 😎

    • Windscribe VPN app on your phone?

    • +1

That’s exactly what I did and it worked

  • +1

I’m not a chopper pilot but frequently get A01 error, I just force close and restart the app and it’s all good.

    • 🥲 Tried that, no luck

  • Another A01 error here -

    • +7

I finally figured it out with other peoples help. The trick is indeed to get a VPN to make your IP also match the location as well as GPS.

I found the SPEEDIFY app to be perfect. Its free (2gb limit per month so make sure to turn it off if you don't have a dedicated device for this). And it has Perth, Sydney and Melbourne. I just tested it with the Perth one and I got the error one time and then like others suggested, I just chose a different fuel then back to the one I wanted and it worked on the 2nd go. Hopefully this keeps working consistently.

Personally, I'm using the Android Studio method and that works great. No need for any device just a computer. I've then duplicated it for each location so that I don't have to change VPNs each time.

      • I have just about tried everything recommended in this thread from the past week using Android Studio.

Using Speedify VPN (both inside the emulator as well as on my phone when hotpspotting) to match the state i'm locking to

Hotspotting from mobile instead of using wifi

Changing fuel type and then going back to the one I want to lock

Clear app data and logging back in

I'm just not having much success with this A01 Error.

I even figured out how to change the device location on the Android Studio - since i noticed that my devices were actually all located in California for some reason.

        • Not sure, this has been working for me. You sure you got speedify on with the right state selected? You got the GPS spoofer with the right location set? And that you change your fuel once if it's got the error? (I only had to do the last step once)

Not too sure sorry. But the 25c cap they're adding soon makes this whole thing not as good, so I guess don't stress that much.

          • @amrdeus: I can't even lock into my own state at this point 😞

  • +1

I did finally get a fuel lock working (after trying sporadically over 2 days - it's quite important to me as I often save $10-$15 each time I fill up). 7-11 definitely cracking down - I got all my alt accounts banned all at the same time. Had to use all kinds of tricks (VPN, restarting router, spoofing within the same state) to get it working. Not sure what did it but damn, I hope it isn't this hard going forward.

  • +8

email just received: they're now going to limit your saving to a max of 25c/L. also deleting "inactive" accounts, conveniently not specifying what qualifies as inactive

    • +3

      Effective 6th Feb.
      Pricks.

    • +3

      The real dick move is

If your account remains inactive for an extended period of time, we may terminate, delete or suspend your account. We will attempt to notify you via your My 7-Eleven account or email prior to doing so.

"We are going to notify you via your inactive account that your account will be deleted due to inactivity"

    • +1

in a way, it's good for all the banned accounts!

      • Doubt they would delete those, they're already in the shadow realm.

    • -8

They are monitoring this thread no doubt, you guys have shared too much information

      • +11

Bro this fuel hack was posted like 6 years ago

Even if you are correct, imo 6 years of value being extracted out of this for all us clowns like you and me who probably wouldn't have known how to do it themselves without all our heroes teaching us here is fantastic value

  • +5

that's going to halve my savings, might make it worthwhile to drive to BP for the extra 25c/L.

"We will honour the additional saving by reimbursing you the amount in accordance with section 16.25, if you fill out the missed fuel discount form under the contact us tab of the My 7-Eleven app. "

They're going to be so busy… I dont see how this makes sense for them, the workload will be huge, I'd expect..

    • +1

It’s just for that 7 day period but still very manual

    • +6

It's a trap to flag accounts for review and banning. It happened to me the last time I asked to be reimbursed during when their nation wide system was down.

  • +1

Yeah halving savings, got a few around me so will be worth combining petrol spy and 7/11 for maximising discount where possible.

    • +4

The whole attraction was that you could fill up at any station. Having to go to a specific station sucks but also everyone else would be doing the same so you also need to wait.

      • I usually save 30-40 cents per litre at my local town, local town is one of the most expensive places in Vic to get fuel and the next nearest 711 is a 20min drive away.

How they can get away with what they do in this town with fuel prices should not be legal.

      • Huh? you still can fill up at any station I think, nothing in the email about that unless I missed it.

  • +5

    RIP to my 50c+ savings

    • +3

My costco refuels might be back on the menu!

    • -1

      I've developed depression.

  • +9

Submit your helicopter account details on the web form for easy ban access ! No thanks

  • WOW what a change

  • +5

Tbh I was rarely saving more than 25c anyway unless the fuel price had just gone up in the area. Sucks for those times, but for the other 90% of the time it's just business as usual.

  • +5

Will need to consider which location to fill up at, just need to be a little more strategic about it.
There's a 53c saving right now between Croydon Park (178.9) NSW and Paddington NSW or Kensington NSW(231.9), (55c if you locked in at Landsdale WA 176.5) but if you drove the 6km (16mins) from Paddington to Camperdown (188.9) you'd still save the 53c over Paddington/Kensington (but only 10c over Camperdown). and still pay less at Camperdown than Paddington.

If you're in Casula atm, I'd be driving 2-3 km to Lurnea or Edmondson Park, to claim a voucher.

  • +6

Maximum saving of 25c from 6th Feb… sad.

Often I'd lock in price ~$1.65-1.75 just before it goes up to ~$2.10+. I'd fill up the wife's car the day of expiry and there will be enough fuel in her Swift to get her through to when the fuel prices is next at its lowest. Can't do that anymore.

New strategy will probably be to top up whenever I see the fuel low. When prices go up, wait as long as possible to fill up and hope it's low by then.

    • +2

Just got the email too - quite sad about this considering the other day I had a saving of 48c/L! Now we'll be doing the same as you and filling up before prices get too high I suppose.

      • +1

When the fuel light comes on in my car can fill 55L so at 25c/L that's $13.75 max saving. I have multiple screenshots on my phone of savings over $20 so it's quite a difference. I think my best was either $27 or $28.

        • Same, my car can fill up to about 40L, so $10 savings, but the most I've saved is $21.07. That was a good time!

    • righto, guess they won't be getting a dime from me anymore then and I'll stick to filling up for cheap at the independents :)

      • +3

May not be a bad idea. I have an independent within acceptable driving distance that is currently still $1.759 when everyone else is ~$2.10. May as well help keep the independent in business when prices are high and go to the 711 when their prices are decently low… for the Velocity points injection (mainly to keep the points from expiring).

    • +6

To me 7/11 just won't get my business all the time now.

I was exclusively 7/11 due to the fuel locks. Now if you're going to dictate how much I can save, I'll just look for alternatives. I've got an independent up the road that's usually very cheap. I'll just use PetrolSpy and see if it's cheaper to lock in locally or use the chopper. But yeah now instead of getting 100% of my business, you'll just get whatever I decide on occasion.

      Classic bean counter decision.

      • This.
In cases where there was a local servo priced slightly cheaper than the best 7/11 lock, I used to still go to 7/11. Will likely just go to the local non-7/11 now.

  • +1

I'd rather they added a 12-18 month transaction history in the app, with receipts, similar to everyday rewards.

  • +6

can prob blame the idiots on FB charging people to lock in a price. 7/11 prob had a spy in the group

    • Who does that?

      • there was a guy who created a site that charged a subscription for cheap prices
another just set up a buymeacoffee account and did it with $2-$5 donations…

        • there's a discord for it too.

      • Some kids trying to make extra coins and get you to join their Discord.

  • 7Eleven have new owners now. It was sold to the Japanese headquarters. I guess they want to make some return on their investment by going after the fuel lock kids.

    • -1

I guess they want to make some return on their investment by going after the fuel lock kids.

      How does it increase returns?

      • +5

        By decreasing losses.

        • +8

          They will lose sales.

          • -1

@jv: No they won't. People still need to buy petrol regardless.

            • @bargain ben:

People still need to buy petrol regardless.

I get 8c off at Coles Express. Currently cheaper than using 7-Eleven.

Their new rules means Coles will be cheaper more often, so they will lost my instore purchases too…

    • +2

7Eleven have new owners now. It was sold to the Japanese headquarters.

I doubt changes can be agreed and implemented that fast, but maybe.

I guess they want to make some return on their investment by going after the fuel lock kids.

It's just an accounting treatment. They're already selling fuel at the locked price, they're not losing anything.
They're gaining by booking sales litres 7 days out. and some of the savings goes to high margin store sales. I often get donuts and coffee with the savings, that wont be happening so often now.

      • +2

Yeah, less savings = less spend on little extras… and more fuel purchases elsewhere more than likely.

This to me looks like a typical beancounter decision without understanding human behaviour and changes it will have on the numbers.

      • There's no actual sale until you go into the store and fill up. They're making it harder to lock in any store that's not local to you and putting a cap on the amount of discount offered.

I wouldn't be surprised if in the future they restricted this further by restricting the area where you can fill up with your locked price or do away with fuel lock completely. Not saying I want this to happen, just saying it's definitely possible.

  • +3

    25c better then nothin'

    • +1

25c/L better than what the other petrol stations offer

  • +1

Had A01 issue… i just went from house wifi to hotspot (proper phone) and it worked.

    • have the same issue today, tried the hotspot but same issue, any suggestion?

      • I didn't try anything else… i just turned phone and computer on and off, it didn't work, and on my burner phone i took it off the wifi and jumped on my proper phone's hotspot.

  • @dontpanic I followed your Android Studio method exactly. It worked no problem for the first two virtual device and when I duplicate the third device. It continuously getting G09 error every time I create a new account using a new email address.

How to solve this issue? Thanks

    • G09 indicates a banned account.

They're probably banned your device and will ban any new account set up on it.

Either spoof your device id to something different (there are apps to do this, google it) or set up a new device.

I would suggest not using the 7/11 app on your regular phone if possible. That might also be blacklisted and trigger a ban. Add the new account to your Google wallet and use that to get the barcode scanned at 7/11 (you can also screenshot it on your virtual device and send it to your phone as another workaround).

      • -5

Add the new account to your Google wallet and use that to get the barcode scanned

Or do it the old school way and use a photocopy.

  • Any fixes for A01 error? 😭 Tried changing fuel types, WiFi / vpn etc… No luck

    • +2

Hotspot to my phone fixed it for me

    • +2

Changing to a state i'm in worked for me.

      • Yep, that fixed it for me.

      • what do you mean by this? thank youi

        • +1

I was using WA to price lock as that was the cheapest. I changed to the state i reside in even though it's 3c more expensive. No more A01
