  • +1

    Thanks, bought 0 + 1i

Hope people realise you have to pay extra for auto pilot. Like 10k or something, rude shock when I was looking them up. Early adopters tax.

Seems like 4 banger Jap cars are still the way to go until Tesla gets some competitors in this space.

    • +5

Autopilot comes as a standard feature in this car.

What you might be reffering to is the additional/optional FSD feature.

      • Autopilot is standard on any modern car, just fancy name for adaptive cruise control and lane change assist. Why FSD costs 10k???

        • +2

Except that lane centering and lane assist rarely work properly on any of them

        • Lol btw, those features are on the base model, autopilot is technically like hands off the steering wheel - take me to this address. You are thinking of $10k for Full Self Driving.

        • I don't think you can say that Autopilot is standard on ANY modern car! Maybe you are talking about adaptive cruise? My parents both have new Mercedes, and they have AC, and it works NOTHING like my Teslas Autopilot.

FSD is so expensive because it keeps getting better, with an eye to one day being full L4-5 autonomy (I don't think they will get there but that's IMHO). That is what you are paying the big bucks for.

    • who would want to pay 10k for a feature you are basically beta testing for tesla and putting your life at risk at the same time … LOL

      • It is similar to paying 50k extra for an Audi e-tron. Why is the Audi more expensive. Price placebo accounts for most of it.

    • You are confused between Autopilot and FSD (which itself is a scam!)

    • So hang on a minute … you have to pay extra for an optional…. extra?

Hold the phone - this is an outrage.

  • Put an order last month for $$63,543 (includes $1500 upgrade).. comes out cheaper than this deal. should get the car by end of Feb.

    • Contemplating ordering one this month. Is the zev subsidy already deducted if ordering online? Don't wanna order yet if no guarantee of subsidy lol. I'm in Victoria btw. Cheers

      Yep, just walk everywhere

  • +4

Meanwhile me waiting for model Y.

    • Will be a fairly large premium sadly

      Waiting for the compact/hatch Tesla

      • +1

        US prices
        Model 3 $45k model y $59k

        So I assume that extra 20k to 25k 😔

        • Roughly +10% going by HK prices

    • Same here, Tesla refuses to give any ETA. Support says they aren’t given time lines, how hard is it 🤬

  • -1

Can the USB C Port charge my X1 Carbon which requires 65w? Thanks I'm interested

    • I think it’s probably 27w or so, charges a normal laptop fine.

  • -1

    Support for band 28?

    • +1

Yes, every tesla had built in cellular connection for entertainment (you have to get subscription) . They use telstra network. So I guess yes.

  • -4

I read a great article how EV vehicles are not saving people that much. Once you factor in the price of both cars of similar stature, charging costs etc, doesn’t put weight the difference by much for the extra you pay for EV, especially when you need to buy a battery after warranty is expired.

    • +5

On the other hand, I've read a few articles that say otherwise, with detailed calculations to support.

Of course, your milage may vary. ;)

    • +5

Firstly show me a sedan the size of Model 3 with the same features and at the same price - infotainment, panoramic glass roof, power everything including steering wheel adjustment, heated front and rear seats, a banging stereo. Once you have done that, tell me if it does 0-100 in 5.6 seconds? Once you have done that as well, tell me which car it and how much does it cost.

I haven't even included the saving from not using fossil fuels, no servicing costs and no fluid changes required.

    • +2

Our work car is a Model 3, we charge it from solar on the work roof. We spent $92 in a year on electricity/maintenance on the Tesla.

Meanwhile our i30 cost $1987 in petrol, $310 in maintenance in the same year. Fun fun!!! Next year is major service for the i30, so estimated $870.

  • +6

The thought of going to a petrol station makes my skin crawl. Yuck.

    • +1

yesterday i had to touch the filthy pump, with my hands

  • +1

it has been this price for a while now?

  • +1

Tesla price is starting to look reasonable now when compared to ever increasing price of ICE cars. Although its in a desperate need of a styling freshen up. It looked dated when it came out, now it looks 20 years old.

    • Although its in a desperate need of a styling freshen up

This will be interesting when it happens. Tesla have never had to do a major generation update, and whatever they do will most likely piss off half their customers. Just see how the BMW freaks behave every time they update their models :)

  • -2

I think if you can afford $60k plus on a car, you don’t need the broader community to assist your purchase, disgraceful waste of public funds

    • +13

They should take all the subsidies off fossil fuels as well so you can pay the real cost of petrol. If you can afford a car that costs hundreds of dollars a week to run you don't need the broader community to assist with your costs.

      • If VIc state funds are being used to to subside fossil fuels, then yes, scrap them.

If it’s federal money you refer to, the economics are somewhat different, do you have a reference?

      • +2

And suddenly these people are suspiciously quiet…

      • -1

They should take all the subsidies off fossil fuels as well so you can pay the real cost of petrol

Someone's been reading the Guardian again. The majority of 'fossil fuel subsidies' are tax incentives to major industry, which mean the government allows you to pay less tax on your profit, as opposed to actually handing you money (unlike green causes which tend to be handouts). This benefits you because it makes the manufacturing and freight costs for the all the stuff you buy cheaper. Without those YOU will be paying more for everything.

And if all 'subsidies' were removed, the price of your Tesla would likely go up significantly too, since the roads are currently paid for by fuel excise which EV's don't pay. And those roads need to be paid for by someone. Once EV's reach critical mass and fuel use reduces you have a shock coming.

  • +1

in regards to repairs and accident claims. Are there dedicated places for EV?

    • +2

Yes, there are a few Tesla authorized repairers in each state. You should be able to find the list on Tesla website. Only they can buy parts from Tesla. Even if you insure without the choice of your repairer, the car would end up in one of those places anyway.

    • Depends entirely on the car. For bodyworks there usually isn't anything different, although Tesla does have preferred/certified repairers.

    • +1

Don't worry about repairs as it's probably cheaper to buy a new Tesla.
Here's one from America where the cost was $50,000 and took 3 months even though all needed parts were present at the body repair shop
      https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=YFtxYb-GN9k

It would also be faster to blow it up than fix it
      https://nypost.com/2021/12/24/tesla-explodes-after-mechanics…

      • -1

Yeah because stories from the US are definitely applicable to the experience people have in Australia.

        • +1

Oh that's right, I completely forgot that everything in Australia is cheaper. Especially Tesla parts because they are made at the old Holden factory in Adelaide.
Our wages are also lower than in America. How could I forget that!

          • -1

@spaceflight: Erm, no, the things you're forgetting is the fact the Model 3 is mass produced in Shanghai now with an absolutely massive manufacturing plant that dwarfs the output of the Fremont plant, which is where the parts would have been coming from in your linked video.

Also, the video you've linked is 3 years old now, before the Shanghai plant was even built, so this car would've been waiting on parts from the Fremont plant which was servicing the entire world at that point.
Yes, the parts were somehow available in that repair place, but I don't think Tesla were at fault for the police taking 3 weeks to file a report and the repair place for taking an eternity to do the repair and potentially misquote him the first time.

Oh, and the video is also a Model S, which isn't even available in Australia at the moment and hasn't been for a while.

So yeah - you're talking shit and nothing of what you wrote is applicable to Australia.

  • +1

Does the "Full Self-Driving Capability" option work in Australia ?

Would be useful to send the kids to school each morning.

    • It is coming. I reckon in 15 years we will have that function. Not just kids, everyone will be dropped off and car returns to charge via solar at home. Every brand should have it by then.

      • Never would want the kids to walk/ride to school. Better buy them a dedicated FSD instead.

      • +1

I think your timing is correct. I wish bloody Elon would stop saying "Next year" all the time. It will be 10 years+

        • in elon time 1 year is 10 years, next year we are going to mars

    • +2

I would send off my mother-in-law back to her home.

  • +6

"Now comes with heated seats and heated steering wheel and car mats as a standard"

This is Australia, not Sweden. How about chilled seats and chilled steering wheel and an in-car esky as standard.

    • Any chance of the heat pump also?

      • +1

Yeah it is included since 2021 model.

        • I've never heard of the chilled steering wheel!

Anyways, literally no car manufacturer considers Australia important as we are such a small market. So it's unlikely that cooling will be given priority.

          Heat pump might help tho.

          • +1

@Naigrabzo: Heat pump does help, a lot.
But as max900 mentioned, it's been in the car nearly a full year now.

Obviously not a big thing to the hotter states, but for the colder ones, it improves range hugely in cold weather when the heat is on.

    • I'd never buy a car without heated seats after having them (am in Tas though).

      • I've never found Tasmania to be as cold as some people make it out to be. Northern Europe on the other hand…

  • Cheers shared on my Facebook group "Tesla Owners Australia" ✋

  • +2

    Thanks op bought 2.

We were looking for a 7 seater but we can now drive one and the other can follow driving by itself

    • +1

nice, so if on gets speeding fine, other will too

  • +3

    Hold on…

I bought a M3 last year in September. Back then, the base model was $61,985 driveway after the $3k subsidy.

So it's actually slightly more expensive. This isn't a deal (it is in that the car is worth every penny, but this isn't a price drop).

    • Tesla doing a Kogan. Jack up the price and then put it back down and call it a deal?

      • I think they did the jacking (but barely) but not putting it back down. I think OP is just confused and shouldn't have posted this.

    • +6

Do you go around telling people you drive an M3?

      • +1

Only when relevant to the conversation?

        • +7

          Model 3 ≠ M3

          • @Maxxiz: Context is important mate.

            • @loksmack: you said you bought an M3 in a thread discussing purchasing cars. what did you think would happen?

              • +1

@DaiShan: Said I bought an M3 in a post discussing Tesla Model 3. Anyone not trying to be obtuse would know I mean the Tesla.

                • +1

@loksmack: M3 is an iconic and famous car. I have literally never seen a single person refer to a model 3 as an M3. anyway, suit yourself

                  • @DaiShan: In the Tesla circles, majority of people call a Model 3 an M3 for short…. but yeah, I'd say at least half of them don't know how sacrilegious that sounds.

                    • +1

@Deviner: oh okay then - thanks for explaining. agree, quite sacrilegous!

                      • +1

@DaiShan: Yeah don't get me wrong, I hate it. I sold an M3 only recently and it kills me when people call a Model 3 an M3 lol..

    • +3

But you bought a M3 right?

      • +2

Certainly did. Best car I've ever owned.

        • +1

Was your previous car a bicycle?

  • It was this same price since at least 1 Dec when I orders the long range plus. Great price but not new deal

  • darn i really want the long range model

  • I hear these are good for mining Bitcoin, but not so much to drive around in.

  • Duplicate deal. Same as this deal but with VIC delivery location instead of NSW.

  • +3

MY22 comes with a lot of upgrades compared to last year without any price increase.
Bigger 60kwh LFP battery with 2-3x lower degradation, longer range, heated seat/wheel/wiper and new ryzen powered infotainment system.

    • +1

It sure does. It does have one negative however in that it uses a less powerful motor and thus 0-100 drops by half a second (6.1s vs 5.6s).

2021 had LFP too with the lower degradation, but 'only' 55kwh.

    • All of new orders will be MY22?? or can you be given an old one off the shelf??

      • +1

Yep new ones will all be MY22.

    • Bigger 60kwh LFP battery with 2-3x lower degradation

They've come with LFP batteries since Dec 2020. The Dec 2021 change was from 55 to 60 kWh. So loksmack hasn't missed out on any degradation rate change.

    • +1

One small correction - the 55kW/h battery sold before October last year was also LFP.

    • 2021 cars built after 1/10 have 62.5kwh LFP.

The cars built between 1/10 and 20/10 have 62.5kwh and the 980 motor which is the same one in the P, these cars are considered unicorns because they maintain the 5.6s. cars after this period have the LR rear motor which is why they are slower.

  • Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty
The Basic Vehicle Limited Warranty covers your vehicle for 4 years or 80,000 km, whichever comes first.

    Supplemental Restraint System Limited Warranty
The Supplemental Restraint System Limited Warranty covers your vehicle for 5 years or 100,000 km, whichever comes first.

Battery and Drive Unit Limited Warranty
The Battery and Drive Unit in your vehicle are covered for a period of:

    Model S
Model X 8 years or 240,000 km, whichever comes first, with minimum 70% retention of Battery capacity over the warranty period.
    Model 3 Rear-Wheel Drive
8 years or 160,000 km, whichever comes first, with minimum 70% retention of Battery capacity over the warranty period.
    Model 3 Long Range
    Model 3 Performance
8 years or 192,000 km, whichever comes first, with minimum 70% retention of Battery capacity over the warranty period.
These warranties cover the repair or replacement necessary to correct defects in the materials or workmanship of any parts manufactured or supplied by Tesla, which occur under normal use.

    • +2

Overall I am ok with this warranty but wish it was much better for a $59k car. I consider 59k expensive because I can buy Toyota corolla hybrid for 30k with better warranty but realise it's not really a fair comparison.

Tesla remains king of electric cars because they started in 2009 way before any of the other phools even thought of it as viable.

  • When is the model y available?

    • +1

      "two weeks" or "soon"

  • -1

    Ok can I support musk?

  • As a retired person on a fixed income I can only dream….. :-(
