I dont like to pay for Prepaid sim cards anymore.

    • +6

Don't forget to turn off auto recharge before the 90 days is over.

      • -7

        I don’t wanna pay $4.97 pm

        • +8

If you collect 50 bottles per month & take it to a Container Refund Point then it will cover the cost.
Same as free but you get some exercise as well.

          • -4

@WatchNerd: Ok mate , no need to be so defensive .. great deal!!

            • @Ehty: Agree Ehty, bit touchy there without knowing your reasons.

First of all thanks OP for a nice deal post here, have got many of these Kogan Mobile 90 Day/60GB deals over the years and currently using one, but since my last port over was blocked and had to talk to a rep to activate, when looking at my history he saw dozens of new sim activations and port overs, and said this was the last one for me, so I now only buy "new customer deals" ( hopefully that will still work, find out in few days haha).

I also prefer to Not Pay $4.97 per month and rather pay only $2.90 for 30 Day/20GB or $3.90

              https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/670300

              for 30 Day/40GB haha https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/637007

              Or $4.30 for 30 Day/20GB https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/661718

How about 1 cent for 30 Day/40GB and even in the past could get for free

              https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/630884

              • @ozhunter68: If you have followed prepaid SIM deal closely, there were many times that you could score some for free (after cashback), or even profit sometimes. Ehty has been involved a lot from the posts and comments I noticed.

                • @Neoika: ^^^This^^^

Thanks for even thinking a little broader and doing some checking first before being so quick

to "jump the gun" and shoot down people before thinking or just keeping comments calm

with some room for things "we did not think about or consider."

            • @Ehty: An average deal now. Sometimes $9.90.

          • +1

            @WatchNerd: "WatchNerd"

I take my empty drink bottles to a re-cycling depot now for many years, but often it costs me more in fuel to go there than it's worth/get back which is ok as I mainly do it for enviromental reasons, and I try to do a few things whilst in that area as it feels like a nice morning out lol.

I have a friend who has mental health problems, and has been doing this on a bike with a trailer part time for years, and good on him. Certainly not suitable or willing for All.

            • @ozhunter68: I love the idea that you are driving, pouring pollution into the air and the ocean for the environment. Genius level.

              • @cakesyy: "cakesyy" I don't just drive to town to re-cycle, I go food shopping and as I said,

an outing as I live regional and need to drive to get food anyway.

In a good twist for me, the re-cycling even pays for the fuel and then I get a free trip

money wise, but yes it uses some fuel, all driving does.

            • @ozhunter68: I probably wouldn't leave a bike and trailer unattended out the front of my local recycling depot.

          • @WatchNerd: Why not put $5 to other use? It does not make sense to narrow down the use.

            • @Neoika: Yup, I meant that if you can get similar sim for free why even bother to pay $4.97 for Kogan.
There are always deals such as this, this , this or this and finally this where you end up pocketing more than the sim price .

      • Where can I turn off the auto recharge? Thanks!

        • +1

Log into your account, go to Payment method, remove payment method, and that should do it,

but I still like to double check to make sure Auto Re-Charge is now turned off.

You can do this on your phone/Tablet, or sign in via computer, or both haha

          • +1

@ozhunter68: Thank you! Port over to this just over a month ago and waiting for the next JB $500 deal come up!

    • isn't the actual sim card is free?

      • -1

        Yes, yes, yes.

  • -2

I found Kogan to be pretty average. I was getting away with it pre covid because I was mostly in the city, but they use Vodafone coverage, which I found to be horrendous in many places, including the suburb I live (Ryde).

    • +2

Works ok in Adelaide. Not as good as Telstra but for $5 a month I put up with it

    • Agreed with you and will not use Kogan again as I have drop outs way too often compared to Optus and Telstra coverage

    • +3

I was getting over 100mbps in a 4g modem, then moved to a different area and now get 30-40mbps

It's highly dependent on how close you are to the towers and population

As for reception, no real issues in the parts of Melbourne I frequent

    • i was getting average 5-10mbps in a 4g area in metro sydney.

    • LOL, someone negged me for sharing my individual experience to help people? I thought I made it clear that I was sharing my experience in the suburb where I live. I use Boost now, but to each their own.

  • It says Port over offer, what if I want to order now but port over in like 15 days when my plan finishes?

    • +2

Expiry is Nov 2022, you'll be fine.

  • +2

You will get a voucher over email which you will need to apply while sim activation and it states "Voucher expires at 11:59pm AEDT on 30/11/2022".

  • +1

    PSA
This was completely my mistake but do read before buying whether it's NEW customer or PORT only as those vouchers are not interchangeable.

Needless to say the legendary kogan customer support will not swap them over if incorrectly purchased.

    • Would you care to explain the difference between the two?

      • +3

NEW - new number creation using the sim pack

        Vs

PORT - Must move over from another provider.

        • Thank you.

        • +1

New means, new customer, not an existing Kogan mobile customer in the past 30-40 days (?)

  • It’s a good offer for those that need to hide before the next $500 jbhifi voucher mobile deal pops up.

  • I'm in a bit of a pickle, I'm currently on this plan but it expires in two days. I ordered another sim a week ago but it hasn't arrived. What's the fastest way to port to a different provider so I can port back to kogan?

    • I'm in a similar situation, thinking maybe $2 Optus SIM from Officeworks? Hopefully that would do the job?

    • +1

You’re stuck in a pickle for 35 days from porting out of kogan. They will block you porting back unless your number has left for 35 days.

      • Oh wow, didn't know that. Thanks.

      • 35 is pretty tight. Since prepaid sims are 28-30 days, you need to be away 2 months, or one month + a few days with no service before you can return.

        • 31 days as discussed by some and from my own exp. It may be even calculated by exact hours of 30 days. Hence, some were able to make it on the 30th day while some not.

          • @Neoika: it's still slightly more than what a month gets you with another carrier. Lebara gives you 30 days, but the rest is about 28 days. Which means you have a few days where you can't make calls or texts.

            • @lostn: It is purposeful setup against people do not recharge on time. I think Vodafone adopted it from Kogan for its own SP.

          • @Neoika: It is not just 30days, your Sim needs to be activated to reply back to their SMS to confirm porting your number so basically you need at least 31 days

  • +1

If I wanted a new number, is this the cheapest way to port into this?
    https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/663347

    • Yes that appears to be pretty cheap.

    • I missed this deal, good for get a new number for some freebie promotions.

    • Not sure how long it takes to port from vacation Vodafone network to Vodafone network

  • Just activated a couple of sims from the November new customers deal, and they’ve given me 30gb per month, up from 20gb as advertised. Anyone else had this experience recently?

    • +1

Yes people have. I also bought a $4.90 starter sim (40GB for 30 days) the day before the deal changed back in December, and when I activated the sim it gave me 60GB. So Kogan seem to have changed their back end.

  • thanks for this.

activated and ported from boost. since boost $200 plan only gives 30gb now (which is really weird and strange, maybe they want everyone to port out and port back in to raise their new customer numbers?)

took 2seconds to port from boost(telstra) to kogan(vodafone). pretty fast now

and I logged into my kogan account looks like its 30gb/month so maybe 90gb/3months

  • can i port this from coles mobile? I just got the sim today

  • I bought this however it's actually 30 Gb per month

  • what cheap sim to buy to port to this one ?

  • important update! It now sneakily says these SIM's expire 30/06/2022

  • After 90 days it will be renewed at $99.90 as per critical info summary.
    https://www.koganmobile.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2020/09/KM…

Also, on the plan page on kogan.com under "Plan Information & Terms" link that displays a hidden piece of fine print it says:

"Offer is only valid for customers who port their existing Australian mobile phone number to Kogan Mobile. Personal use only. Discount available on Kogan Mobile Prepaid Large 90 day plan, purchased before 11:59pm AEDT 31/05/2022 unless sold out prior or extended. Discount does not apply to subsequent recharges."

Please include this to the deal description.

  • Ported over today. The voucher I received by email said it expires on 30/11/2022, which is different to the website. My account page is also showing 30GB per month too (a welcome surprise).

  • Purchased today and I can confirm expiry is on 30/11/2022

  • ported out to return as new customer in 30 odd days but got an email to bring number back after a week or so to get this deal, can anyone confirm if this will work, don't really want to chase up if doesn't work straight away

  • I recall reading that you must have ported out min 30 days in order to be considered a new customer. So regardless of their invite, you wouldn't be eligible until you meet that condition.
On another note, can anyone get the Cashback to work? I don't seem to get that 2% Cashback for this particular 90 day deal.

    • +3

In before Vodafail is mentioned without stating your location.

      • LOL.

      • +6

Lol my area's best service is Voda followed by Optus and Telstra. I live next to a University.

    • +14

Kogan Prepaid Mobile 30 Days 30GB & SIM Card $1 Delivered.

      • I'm about to cancel mine that I've just used.

Can I register a completely new number under the same name and address, and just keep going :D

        • Yes - you could even port that number to [say] Aldi for $5, then port back in in 30 days.

        • +1

When you sign up they say you can have 5 numbers, but I don't think there is a problem with more than five numbers.

    • Good deal would recommend against fixed contract on Vodafone network though.

      • It's not 2005 anymore.

Vodagone has extensive coverage, that is en par (even better in some locations) with Optus or Telstra, especially in cities and major regional centres.

        • I was with vodafone for years up until midway through last year when due to a storm they lost connection in my area (suburban). Took them over 6 months to get it fixed and by then I'd left.

          • @Sim69: Also note that I was with Kogan (using vodafone network) and it was an absolute nightmare trying to get hold of their support, as their support is by phone only, and I didn't have stable connection.

            • @Sim69: I found their support to be excellent.

              • @Wardaddy: Wish I could judge their support but the connection was so bad I couldn't get through without dropping out…

        • +2

No, no and no. I still have 4 months left in kogan Vodafone, but have to switch to telstra, telstra is expensive but worth it. I have been every where from brookvale, avalon beach, palm beach, north Sydney to como, jannali, miranda to cronulla and kurnell, Vodafone sometimes can't even make a phone call and no internet service, telstra is the best so far.

          • @superuser: Sounds more like a phone band issue.

There are certain situations where Telstra makes sense. Suburban Sydney would not be one of them.

You really should look at the independent third party network coverage maps for each network. The data does not show Vodafone to be significantly worse off in the locations you mentioned. Your heresy ancedotes are nothing more than that - quite meaningless and not supported by actual quantitative facts.

            • +3

@Thatbargainhunter: If a network doesn't provide a decent signal for someone around their home or places they visit, it doesn't matter what coverage maps say. They aren't meaningless, that's the only thing that matters as far as a consumer is concerned. Those maps are only good enough for shareholders to present on a powerpoint.

These companies aren't as honest as they seem to be. Remember the 98%

            • @Thatbargainhunter: I forgot to add, i have 2 phones using 2 different networks, 1 s20 fe 5g using belong, and s22 ultra used kogan Vodafone. Onetime in very early morning my phone had no signal and had to use the backup phone.
There is another phone from my company, it's using telstra and always has signal wherever i go, that's why i switch to telstra.

          • @superuser: yet in my office in the city, telstra fails and vf has the coverage.

    • +1

Should mention it's for new customers only.

      • +2

The title states: "Port Over Offer" - in other words, a new account/number, which = a "new customer" (as long as you haven't been with Kogan on that number inside 30 days).

        • The original title was:

          Kogan Prepaid Mobile 90 Days 60GB $14.90 @ Kogan

          Check the post revisions.

          • @stickyfingers: Ah I see. Yeah sometimes people think "new customer" = "new person" and click off the deal, which is why I spoke up.

    • I did this the other day and it ended up being 30Gb per month.

    • was it 40gb per month?

      • Thats the 30 day simcard

    • that activation date though, need a crystal ball to predict these offers and alignment to best chance to sim swap

    • +2

Just received my code with voucher expiry on 30/11/22

      • But will they decline the plan offer if you activate after 30 Jun?

        • The voucher is the plan. I dont know why mine is different than advertised but it is. Anyone else get a different voucher expiry date like me ?

          • @db1: I also got the expiry date on 30/11/22

    • +1

      What happens after 90 days?

      • +1

You recharge [ at full rate - "Subsequent renewals are $99.90 for another 90 days if you don't turn off auto renewal"] or port out.
