In previous cases, if you choose a new number, the sim card arrives as the service is already activated
You can't leave it to a later date and you lose a few days of 28

    • -8

Also, if you want to cancel or cease their services, you would have to port the number out before they'll cancel it. If you forget to port of, they'll continue to Bill you even without actually providing you a service.

      • Continue to bill you? Isn't this a prepaid plan?

        • +4

If you don't turn off auto-recharge or port you number to a different service before next payment period, you have agreed to pay for ongoing 28days bills… That's normal with a prepaid service.

          • -3

@INFIDEL: You can't turn off auto charge, only way is to port out I was told by their support team. Not sure why all the negs tbh. Just saying be very careful based on previous dealings with this company.

            • +4

@mrtee: What?? Of course you can turn off auto-renew to stop being charged after 28 days.

It's there in the Account settings, under Plan (once account is activated)!

Recommended in so many Amaysim Deals! I've being doing it for years! Never had a problem.

If you're having trouble with understanding basic things like your settings, it's not surprising you had problems in the past!

Not sure why all the negs tbh.
Your comment is incorrect & misleading - so being negged!!

Turned off in account a few days ago on a newly arrived Amaysim SIM!

Just click to turn Auto-renew OFF/ON!! A choice of 2 ways (once account is activated).

From my Account menu (Auto-renew OFF):

              [Plan] UNLIMITED 2GB
              Auto-renew OFF <Turn ON>

              or

              [Plan] >[Manage Plan]
              UNLIMITED 2GB
              Plan Settings
              Payment Type Prepaid, BPay
              Auto-renew OFF <Turn on> before your plan expires on…

              Couldn't be much simpler.
Then (if you don't Port out), your number will receive calls & SMS for a year after the 28days! Handy for other Deals!

      2 choices when ordering:
Ordering New Number - arrives Activated.

But Resets start date to current date when used in first weeks. Must use within 28d of ordering to receive an active service!

      Otherwise
Order SIM to Port to a number you have (not on Amaysim). SIM arrives without activation. Can change later to a new number or Port.
Port only starts when you choose to Activate SIM.

Ordered SIM to Port on existing account, set up payment on PayPal.

Will Port out Kogan number expiring in 3 weeks, to keep it in use for incoming calls & SMS, for over another year!

Can also cancel future billing through PayPal account & change payment on Amaysim to bPay.

      • Resets start date to current date when used in first weeks.

There could be a time limit to the activation date resetting as a previous SIM I activated after 20+ days did not get reset.

After a certain amount of time they may assume that you're SIM slutting or doing something else that they don't want to encourage.

But that's just a theory based on one experience.

        • That's why I put "when used in first weeks". Certainly worked at 14d after ordered.

Otherwise you just get the residual few days of use - "Must use within 28d of ordering to receive an active service!"

Beyond 28 days, it can only receive calls & SMS. Could ask customer service nicely or say you never received the SIM - they might fix it.

But ordering to Port is easiest. You can still set up new number later!

          • @INFIDEL: D'oh, my bad. What I meant to write was that I first started using the SIM 20+ days after activating it (it had not been inserted up to that point).

It was fully active with data but the activation date was not reset, so it only had about four or five days of use before it expired.

Must use within 28d of ordering to receive an active service

This makes sense if you meant reset instead of receive.

            • @UrMumsOnlyFan: Yes, understood.
May not be reset if first use is more than the 14d after ordering that I tried. Was discussed & tested when Amaysim first introduced it.

              • @INFIDEL: Roger.

                • @UrMumsOnlyFan: Contacting customer service may help reset start date. They've done it for me.

                  • @INFIDEL: When it's free I take what I'm given :)

                    • @UrMumsOnlyFan: So do I ๐Ÿ˜‚

Have a free SIM from last Deal, on day 14 since ordered.
Must use in a few days & see if it resets.
Can always order another free in this Deal!

                    • @UrMumsOnlyFan: Used SIM first tume on Day 14.
                      Made calls & SMS.
Took hours, but reset to full 28 days
                      .

                      • @INFIDEL:

… reset to full 28 days.

Automatically, or did you have to contact Amaysim?

                        • +1

@ifuggedxyz: usually happens automatically and they'll send you a txt to the effect of: "hey we noticed you've just started using your sim so we've reset the expiry to reflect this."
then text "bal" to 568 and you should see the expiry date change.

or hop on chat and they either extend your expiry or add credit to your account.

                          • @tdw: No SMS. Showed in account today.

                        • +1

@ifuggedxyz: Just found it had reset in account - automatically.

No SMS as happened previously (long time ago, as I usually order to Port - to Activate when I want & avoid this.).

                  • @INFIDEL: From my chat:
We will restart the plan manually after 28 days once its active as long as there is no usages.

          • @INFIDEL: How to setup new number later if originally order to port existing number? It doesn't seem to give me that option when activate the sim. Thanks.

            • @bbking18: May have changed. Used to be option.

Contact them & ask for new number. If old number can't be ported (no longer in use, etc) that's the only option to activate.

              • @INFIDEL: Ok thanks for reply. I may have to contact them then.

      • There is another option. Select PayPal as the payment method and do not verify your ID until the SIM card arrives. This will ensure that the SIM card is not active before you want to start using it.

Edit: Oh someone else does what I do.

        • If adding to an exiting account (my case), that wont work.

          • @INFIDEL: My bank told me the way to stop any company that does this is to write a letter/email saying you disallow all further debits. Then take/send a copy of that letter to your bank and direct the bank to revoke further debits by that company. And like they said switch to Paypal. Then when you want to leave just turn off auto debit in your paypal settings, and the bank will block their debit attempts.

Edit: The bank also said to do it well before any payment comes due. e.g. Two (good) or three (better) weeks before.

            • @[Deactivated]: So much easier to…
Click turn auto-renew off in your Amaysim account

But not relevant to what we were discussing - that SIMs arrive Activated.

If adding this SIM to an existing account, ID Verification has already been done. So suggest order to Port later & then change to a new number if that's what you want.

      • Do you know what is the time frame that we have to activate the sim? Is Amaysim flexible with it? Thanks. Signed up during last deal on 31 Oct and forgot to activate the sim.

        • I think it has to be within the month

          • @King Tightarse: I also think so. Vaguely remembered I read it somewhere. We signed up 2 on 31 Oct but forgot to activate them. Only remember it today. Activate one successfully. Didn't activate the other one.

    • They should reset the activation date once the SIM starts to be used, even if you don't want them to.

    • It auto activates when you confirm your identity. Just don't confirm your identity until you want to use the SIM card.

    • Hi, got one recently, and they reset the activation date to the date I actually activated it.

  • +4

You lot are new to the game. It's very simple to avoid auto activation with new number by linking Paypal and for auto renew just switch your payment to Bpay or disable it.

    • It's very simple to avoid auto activation with new number by linking Paypal

So, setup PayPal automatic payment agreement as the payment method prior to purchase. Is that all it takes to prevent auto-activation from Amaysim???

      • +1

Correct. Once you activate the number you'll need to provide ID. Once the number is activated you can cancel the automatic payment agreement on Paypal and switch auto renew off or Bpay as payment.

        • LEGEND!

Once the number is activated you can cancel the automatic payment agreement on Paypal

There is no harm in cancelling right away. Amaysim will only realise the agreement is no longer valid once they attempt to take payment (which they shouldn't be doing unless you intend to renew).

    • Oh finally now maybe people will listen. I have been doing this for years. And never once has the sim been pre-activated.

And I have often mention this whenever someone posted an Amaysim deal where someone mentioned the pre-activation. Hopefully people will take notice now.

      • So if I get this right,

        1) choose paypal so that it won't be automatically activated since you'll need to provide ID to activate.

        2) wait for sim to be delivered

        3) activate sim whenever by providing ID

        4) switch off autorenew

        Should I do (4) before (2)?

        • +2

          (1) & (2) - Yes.
          (3) You need to activate it within 28 days of ordering it.
          (4) if you do 3 within 28 days then just after you activate the sim you can then turn off auto-renew if you only want to be charged for the first 28 day period. Then you will not be charged anything else until you turn it back on again.

Oh, and you cannot turn off auto-renew until the SIM is active.

          • +1

            @Rodo: Appreciate the clarification!

          • @Rodo: I assume you have plenty of sims to take advantage of the sign up bonuses/promotions. How do you keep a track of it all and do you have a separate phone for of that?

            • +1

@No Child Support: Do not have all that many at the moment but have had many in the past, mostly to get cheap data. I keep track of it all in a spreadsheet and set up reminders so I know when to activate, cancel and search for new deals. A dual sim phone comes in handy so I can keep my main number in one slot and the second slot for switching out for all these sorts of deals.

          • @Rodo: What about if activating after 28days? Thanks in advance.

            • @bbking18: I am fairly certain that you need to activate the sim within 28 days to get the deal/plan that you signed up for. That is how it has been for me in the past. But I suggest you contact Amaysim and ask them.

              • @Rodo: I meant to ask them today. Got too busy. I will ask tomorrow. Someone here said 90 days last time he/she checked T&C. Now I am hopeful.

  • +1

I got this a few weeks ago and they restarted the plan to the date when I received the SIM and started using it in my phone so that I get the full 28 days. Also, they messaged me out of the blue and advised that I'll be getting 80% off the next 6 months, so it works out to be $2.40 per renewal for the next 6 renewals.

    • Confirm the same. Got same offer.
Resets to first use date within the 28d.

Strangely my account also shows $75 credit - not sure why. Had taken up a $15 (after cashback) 6 month offer with 150GB. Used it & now have $75cr.

    • Good to know. Hope to get this 6 month discount too for my parent who uses around 1gb per month.

  • +5

    The advantage with Amaysim…
SIM receives incoming calls & SMS for a year after this 28d expires.
    They send emails before disconnection.

Handy to park a phone number, plus take up food delivery & other offers on this extra number.

  • Could not use same email as before (it wont login me in as an existing amaysim customer)

So it must be for new customers only

    • No. Just Ordered SIM to Port on existing account Ordered on new Number with another existing account in last Deal.

Happens to me a lot with Amaysim - especially if logging in using phone number not email.
Click forgot password if can't log in.

      • -1

Yes THAT IS THE EXACT problem, ORDERING PORT MY NUMBER WITH ("I AM AN EXISTING AMAYSIM CUSTOMER" OPTION)

What i did now was FORCED to create a new amaysim account order number via porting it.

and their online chat team is as usual super dumb trying to say random stuff that i never asked for. (i.e. Me asking them to change my email of number being ported to my original account and amaysim person- oh you need to add your ID details on the number you are trying to port in(which is the absolute worst thing i can do) or other random non related questions). Those people dont even understand i am getting this error that at checkout i Cannot login to my account after selecting option of "I AM AN EXISTIGN AMAYSIM CUSTOMER"

Or they do understand but they just always try to play weird game just to piss off customer because 1. they dont know how to fix it, 2. they just dont want to help customer

        • +1

Much easier to log into account first, then order.

    • +1

      Not for new customers only.

I logged in then went to the ordering page and everything went fine. The new number has already appeared on the dashboard after all the other numbers.

      • Same. Easiest way is to log into account first, then order.

      • Well definitely not working for me.

May be because I already have https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/654049 this deal on a amaysim number

Or may be because i asked amaysim to disable my auto recharge like a month ago, so they dont have a payment method to charge me $0 from may be that's why

they set up payment method with some Bpay/voucher

        • My Amaysim SIMs on those accounts expired long ago. No payment set up.

Just log into your account normally, then order.

          • @INFIDEL: Yes definitely doesn't work for me with existing email

            • @USER DC: So you cant log into your account (not through this ordering)?
Click forgot password if can't log in.

In past, I've had active SIM on an account & was able to add another.

              • @INFIDEL: I can login to my account normally, shows my current number etc,
I just cannot login at the CHECKOUT after selecting I am an existing customer.

                • @USER DC: That seems to point to…
You may not be able to have more than 1 active offer on 1 account - as you suggested.
                  New account solves that!

I've had a similar problem ordering a SIM to Port - to an existing Amaysim number. Not surprisingly it wouldn't process my request.

  • +2

Anyone know how long we can leave it before activating the new SIM when porting?
I assume 30 days or maybe 28 cause its Amaysim?

    • Good question. Would be handy to know.
I'll be porting within that timeframe.

      • I don't know how to show quotes but I'm a king of copy and paste ๐Ÿ˜€ so see below

        • Ah, thats my comment about how to order to Port, you replied in response to my next comment…
On how long can we leave before Porting.

          • @INFIDEL: Wow how stupid am I ๐Ÿ˜„๐Ÿ˜„

            • @iand: Dont worry - We all make little mistakes (I do).

        • Does it mean you can activate after 28 days if choosing porting? Thanks.

    • +1

90 days last time I checked the terms and conditions.

      • WOW, hope they didn't change that. That is very generous. Anyone tested it? Thanks.

    • Is the offer still available if you wait to activate?

      • Customer service agent said there is no specific limit, confirmed it's ok to activate more than 3 months later.
Choose the porting option when buying though otherwise the sim comes activated if it's for a new number.

New to this, after the 28 days and i disabled the renewal payments, can i still receive sms for 2fa?

    • +2

you can still receive sms and calls after your plan expires, yes. i've had inactive numbers that were supposed to be disconnected back in April but here it is, still receiving random spam calls lol

  • How long do you have to activate this?

    • Customer service agent said there is no specific limit, confirmed it's ok to activate more than 3 months later.
Choose the porting option when buying though otherwise the sim comes activated if it's for a new number.

  • I have a collection of Amaysim sims now lol

Been using as data sim, has come in handy

  • Is there a limit to the number of sims we can order?

    https://www.amaysim.com.au/dms/amaysim/documents/terms-condiโ€ฆ

    Does not load anything…

    • IIRC, 4 (prepaid) per ID verified account.

  • going to try this sim in my android head unit in my car.

  • How long do the sims take to get sent? I haven't received mine yet

  • Until when is this promo available?
Need to delay ordering to port number by end of Jan

  • Yes can someone please advise how long delivery takes once ordered?

    • +1

It's via Australia Post and we are in the Christmas countdown so it's quite variable.
If you need to use one immediately, you can order as normal but buy a $2 locally and have customer service activate that, in place of your mailed SIM.

  • How does purchasing via referrals work for this plan?

    Will this work?
Purchase SIM for $0 for first 28 days.
Referral credit $20 in the account.
    Activate and disable auto payment.
Debit $12 from the credit for the second 28 days. ($8 remaining in the account)
Then stay on or port out to another provider if needed.

    • +2

Its only $10 and that is not enough to buy the next month (will be $12/2GB) so you would still need to pay.
Its only 2GB of data so in most cases you would be better going with a $2.90 20GB Kogan for 90c more or whatever is good that month
