    • +5

If you are already a Kogan Mobile customer, simply login to your account, click recharge, choose your plan type, then enter your voucher. You will not need a new SIM Card.

This is from the 1 cent email

      • +3

It overides your current plan. So use it wisely.

        • Yeh was just about to say reading the comments from the 1 cent post

      • Anyone tried that. It says "Voucher does not apply to subsequent recharges"

    • +2

This voucher is valid for new customers only. Please visit the Activation Centre to redeem your voucher. Your SIM card will be on its way soon - but if you can't wait for delivery then you can buy one today from these 7-Eleven or United Petroleum outlets.

      • +1

Where it saids that? From the email came with the codes?
Don't know about this $1card, the $0.01one said this on the email

If you are a new Kogan Mobile customer, visit the Activation Centre to redeem your voucher. Your SIM card will be on its way soon - but if you can't wait for delivery then you can buy one today from these 7-Eleven or United Petroleum outlets.

Doesn't say "This voucher is valid for new customers only."

    • It says "Each voucher can be redeemed for a LARGE Monthly Plan without any additional charge." Does this mean I can keep recharging the same number using each voucher?

Edit: It also says "Voucher does not apply to subsequent recharges."

I am not really what this means.

  • what happens if I used up the 1-month credit and won't recharge, will the number still last for 6 months like other telecos?

      • +1

Thats a lie. once mine expired, i couldn't receive text or calls

        • +2

          Typical Kogan lol

        • It does have 20 days grace period from my own exp, during which you can receive SMS for port-out.

      • +1

That's pretty bad compared to amaysim and Telstra prepaid, both last me 6 months without recharge and still received messages and calls.

        • amaysim is 3 months, just had a service cancelled 16th Dec

        • +2

i've had some amaysim numbers last for over a year, despite their cancellation notifications.

          • +1

@tdw: Yep same here, then just port to Aldi's $5 PAYG to keep the number (using it for signups, etc) for another year

            • @CC123: That's only for new customers right?
What's the mini recharge u have charge it per year?

              • @samelight:

That's only for new customers right?

The $5 PAYG credit? I believe so, not existing.
I do remember reading somewhere on OzB that you can somehow get $5 PAYG credit again at the end of the days, can't find the post.
Please don't quote/reply on that info.

What's the mini recharge u have charge it per year?

In the app, it shows $15.

I just go between Amaysim and Aldi. Cheapest, safest way.

      • +1

I thought you didn't even need a SIM card to call emergency services?

  • Do they check student card?

  • +1

I got 14 for 14 cents. Hoping they stack on one number. If not, they will be for a "1 cent coin cash" on the trading forum 🤣🤣

  • I am on boost and want to port out and in. Do you think Kogan is easy to port out to and port back from to Boost? Or shall I go for Vodafone?

    • +1

i've ported from amaysim to kogan then to optus no problems.

    • Not sure how it is these days but it used to be porting between resellers on the same network was where issues arose.

Kogan is vodaphone, boost is telstra, so you should have no problems.

  • +2

Begrudgingly buying this since I missed the 1 cent deal and I use Kogan for burners on the regular.

  • +1

    Inflation!

    • yes, new customers only

  • Anyone notice that this one is different from previous one that it is for new customers only, unlike the previous deal

  • bought just now. still $1

    • +2

Don't forget to remove your credit card details after your account is set up.

      Happy sim slutting.

      • +3

i used the single-use zip pay card haha

        • Good tip. Never thought of doing this. I usually just go in and delete credit card details after setting up the account.

    • Are you activating a new sim?

      • I input the code "student" for the deal

        • It's now UNIVERSITY

  • Its working again 1pm AEDT.

    • Can someone please confirm, if there is a limit to how many months can be stacked?

      • +2

this one is different from the 0.01 one,
u can't apply it to an old account, meaning u have to do much more to use the codes.
in my opinion, this $1 one isn't worth the troubles.

        • -5

In my opinion jumping through hoops to cling to the same phone number isn't worth the added expense. ;-p

If friends can't be bothered updating someone's new number monthly, then it's time to get better (frugal) friends. If work doesn't like it then they should provide a phone/SIM for free. And if government can't contact you they send a letter/email. The rest are parasites like telemarketers and fake Microsoft scammers.

With apps like whatsapp and Telegram there's no reason people need to text using phone numbers anyway. In fact I'm pretty sure those two apps have audio/speech too, because I remember clicking both of them accidentally back a couple of years ago.

If someone is desperate to hold onto their lazy friends, get a cheap Aldi or Amaysim SIM, put it in a dual SIM phone or second cheap phone, and give out that number for incoming calls. Then make outgoing calls on the cheap SIMs that change monthly. I think Aldi costs $5 per year to keep a number active, and Amaysim has a plan that costs $10 a year to keep active which I have setup to auto-debit from Paypal. So if I ever want to drop it, I just login to Paypal and delete the auto-debit.

          • @[Deactivated]: It's not about keeping ur old phone number or letting ur friends to know the new number.
it's more about do they allow u to activate a new number with the same ID over and over again.
u may able to do it for the first or second times, but after that u may get into more troubles then u expected.
nothing illegal but u may need to waste hrs over the phone to sort it out.

            • +2

              @samelight:

u may able to do it for the first or second times, but after that u may get into more troubles then u expected.

Sorry that's nonsense. Lots of us here do exactly that. Never had to speak to them on the phone to do so. "New Customer" = "New Account", not "New Person" like we naturally think. Just don't tick yes during activation to say you have more than 4 active SIMs, and that way people won't need to phone them. (Activation can/will be rejected if you select yes. Then you'd have to phone and ask a Kogan rep to remove the block.)

              • @[Deactivated]: They got ur I'd detail in their system,
same name same address same date of birth, what make u think they won't find out u got many accounts with them?
if u insist u could try, but as I said it doesn't worth the troubles.

                • @samelight: It's not matter of trying it out. You're guessing/assuming, whereas various people on ozbargain have been doing it for a few years now. The simple fact is: "New Customer" = "New Account", not "New Person". You can activate 1 or 10. As long as each is its own accounts/SIM/phone number. They don't care. They do care if you try to recharge an existing number already with them, using a voucher that's meant for "New Customers". Their own online activation proves this as it allows the same person to "set up this account for another person" while paying for it using the same payment details as their other active SIMs. If you couldn't have more than one, no-one could buy and setup SIMs on behalf of spouse/children but pay them all from the same account.

I appreciate you may be trying to contribute/give information, however in this case the information being given is false.

It might not be worth the trouble (there is no trouble) for you, but $1 is better than $2.90 for others.

                  • @[Deactivated]: I'm not saying you couldn't have more then one under ur name, but I'm sure there must be a limit to it, u couldn't just have as many as u like.

I just went tthrough their website, u need ur id to activate a sim and can only have 5 under that id.
U could remove some of the unwant numbers to make room for a new one, but the process is not simple,
to cancel a service u only need to spend about 30min on the phone,
to disconnect a phone under ur name, u may have to fill up a form after 30min on the phone.
If u are really a student with no incomes, I guess thats worth ur time.
                    But for me… na…

                    • @samelight: Well most people wouldn't need heaps of SIMs active at once. I was just stating you can if you really want to because the "limits" are not really limiting. I've had 7 active at one time, because when data runs out you activate the next SIM, but the empty ones can still make calls/text for 30 days.

The maximum SIMs under one ID is easily solved by using a different payment method. You can activate 4 or 5 SIMs using the same credit card. Then you either phone them to enter the same card manually, or just use a different card to activate the next 4-5 SIMs. So if you had 5 bank accounts, and needed to burn through heaps of data in the same month, you could activate a total of 20-25 SIMs if you really had to.

And the "number of active SIMs limit" people will see during activation is a pointless government requirement. Telcos probably have to mention it by law but they don't police it. Just tick "no" to say you don't have more than 4.

You also don't need to phone them to deactivate SIMs. You just activate a SIM, enter a new PIN, login and delete the payment methods, use it for 30 days (or less), then discard it. It's prepaid… so without a payment method they can't automatically debit you for month 2 so the SIM automatically "dies" 20 days later.

                      • @[Deactivated]: Dude they are not looking at ur payment method and ur payment method should be encrypted, so the name on ur id should be the only way.

but since I'm not going to try, u could say whatever is in ur head.

@samelight: [Sigh] Ok, you're right about everything, even though you've never actually bought one, so have no experience, while I've bought 50 and frequently check Kogan threads to help others out.

(For those who may read this in the future, he's not right - he's been wrong on every point.)

                          • @[Deactivated]: https://ibb.co/rQp936b
u just assume everything and talk with ur imaginations.
I waited until I received the cards, tried and now I conform that u been wrong on every point.
Even when u click no to the "Do you have four (4) or more active Pre-Paid services?"
when you put in ur details and click next it will still search ur name on their data base and

Please contact Customer Service on 1300 056 426 to continue your activation.

They stop u right after the personal details page, u can't even get to the payment page.
I don't know how many u bought be4, but for now for this time NO, the online activation won't let u pass through, u need to call !
Eventully they will let u have 5, but who know how long you need to talk to them over the phone.
What make u think they will never patch up their bugs? From $0.01 could use as recharge to $1 new customer only, they are learning and u still living ur old world.

                            • @samelight: Just one message back he says this:

but since I'm not going to try… [Tells me he plans not to buy any.]

                              Now says this:

u just assume everything and talk with ur imaginations. I waited until I received the cards… [Tell me I'm wrong for assuming he wasn't going to buy any.]

                              !? LOL.

As to what's going wrong… if you had been more clear about what you did, and what's not working, someone would help. I activated one 20 minutes ago and it's working fine. I've activated one SIM every week for the last 5 weeks.

                              • @[Deactivated]:

but since I'm not going to try… [Tells me he plans not to buy any.]

once again u assuming im not going to buy any cards from kogan!
but the fact is im only saying im not going to buy this $1 card becoz it could not be used to recharge!
but the $0.01 one can and i bought a few of them.
u keep talking with ur own imaginations and u blame me ?!

                                also listen to urself !

I've activated one SIM every week for the last 5 weeks.

kogan don't have 7 day prepaid, there is no reason for u to activate one every week for the last 5 weeks!
dude if u want to tell stories plz make up a better one!

                                • @samelight: YOU said you weren't going to buy any - as I just demonstrated above by quoting YOU.

                                  • @[Deactivated]: i didn't buy any dude ! this is the none rechargeable one, this is what im saying from the begining !
u couldn't use it to recharge then no point of buying it !

there is this $ 1 one u can't use it to rechange and the $0.01 one u could use to recharge ! they ar different !!

                                    • @samelight: Whatever. Blocked.

                                • @samelight:

kogan don't have 7 day prepaid

You might need some reading comprehension skills. I never said that. What I was demonstrating was that because I've activated one SIM a week for the last 5 weeks, the problem isn't Kogan. There's something wrong with the way you're activating them. I was prepared to help you through it, but because of your consistently foul attitude, someone else can now.

also don't trying to act like u know something and u ar trying to help, no! u ar not and i bet u don't even have mroe then 5 sim to play with, u just telling stories with pure imaginations.

                                  • @[Deactivated]: how about this just prove to me u got more then 5 kogan sim then i will stop calling u a lier ?
                                    can u prove that ?
all i can see from u now is stories,
u couldn't even give a reasonable explanation for why u "activated one SIM a week for the last 5 weeks" !
ur story just doesn't make sense at all !

                                    • @samelight: Came across this post from somewhere else, but yes you can keep activating sims with Kogan. I've done 12 in the last couple of months. Sometimes you need another phone number to sign up for deals more than once, so you activate another sim. It's not for use as a contact phone number, just for verification, usually in a spare phone. I used my Medicare for some, licence for others, but still ~6 each and no issues. Same name/address/DOB for all of them.

But it seems that these can't be used for recharge, so no good if that's what you're after.

  • Get this one
Port out current non-Vodafone including Amaysim number to this
    Disable the auto renew
Wait for a week or so
Port out to 6*renewals Amaysim deal for $8.95
Enjoy another five month no additional top-ups

    Is this correct?

    • To port out and back again? No. If you port away from Kogan, you can't port back again until day 31.

      • nah… port current out to kogan
        port out of kogan
        to amaysim 6xrenewal

  • On the 1 cent deal can one port over and then just recharge on sane number for a year if they have enough vouchers ?

  • Just bought 10 lol. I just switch it out monthly for the data. Will happily last till 2023 now.

  • +1

Be careful during checkout to check the total… I deleted the Kogan trial, selected free shipping, then entered the code which refreshed the screen and shipping reverted back to $5.

    • +1

Yea I know. I did it 10 times individually it's not that hard. Coz everytime you enter the code it refreshes the shipping option to "express".

      So I do this:
      1. Remove Kogan Trial
      2. Then enter STUDENT code
      3. Finally select "normal" shipping
      4. Make sure the total is $1 before paying.

  • looks like its gone

    • Available again now? Maybe they are limiting the number of purchases per hour. Also a good chance to use few remaining $ on Myy app prepaid mastercard using google pay

  • +1

I'm getting "Sorry, that is not a valid discount code" when I enter "STUDENT" - has it expired?
