    WELL DONE ….. PANDA

  • +4

You can rip out the harddrive and use it as a normal sata harddrive, will void warranty though. 7200rpm @ a Great price!!

  • +1

great for ripping out and using internally, assuming they are using sata connectors. Anyone opened one of these up yet?

    • Yep, mongrel to open (and you will break some of the tabs, so no warranty), but they are a standard SATA HDD.

      • why are they cheaper in the case then by themselves????
        Anyone know the model inside?

  • +2

    Using wish card save 5%, woolies staff discount 5%, starthere.com 2.63 %.

    • 2.63% - how ?
      DSE only offers 1.75%

  • Heard there are issues with the enclosure which causes overheats and failures in the drive. Only good if you are thinking of removing it from the enclosure.

  • Don't worry I got it wrong.

  • Anyone use this drive on a Mac? Hmmm…

    • +1

just format the drive to the file system of your liking and all will be good. i got the 3TB version ($159 at DSE few weeks ago!)

  • +1

And yet, in those 12 months, they haven't managed to add either eSata or USB3.0. Guess the manufacturer had a warehouse full of these enclosures waiting to get drives…

    • -6

USB 3 is pointless for mechanical drives.

      • they have usb3 and esata and even firewire… you just double for it!

there's no doubt that these guys order 100,000 cases (for example) and realise they have too much and to get rid of them they put any drive in them… even their good ST2000/3000 7,200rpm premium drives… their loss, your win

      • +4

        What??
        Using a USB 2.0 controller I get around 30 MB/sec transfer rate.
With a USB 3.0 controller, using the same hard disk, I get around 85 MB/sec transfer rate.
That speed difference doesn't sound pointless to me. Especially with a 2TB drive where you're likely to be transferring large amounts the time savings are significant.

      • Really? You get ~30MB/s on USB 2.0 and probably ~60MB/s on USB 3.0 so you can probably fill it in half the time. That's about 9 hours saved. I prefer eSATA interface too since my NAS doesn't support USB 3.0 :D

Price matched over the phone and ordered - with free delivery for today!!

    All for $94.05

did everyone just ring as soon as they saw this? Been on hold for over 5mins now haha

      • 12 mins and im in.

  • Awesome deal

    • +4

I assume that if Officeworks drop their price to $99, they don't have to undercut to $94.

  • +1

Direct DSE website link is here so you can print it out to take to OW:

    http://m.dicksmith.com.au/Product/XH9888WEB/SEAGATE-Expansio…

Great stuff! Just picked one up for $94.05 at Officeworks! Thanks heaps Pandabargain.

  • Also got one from OW thanks. Planning to use as internal drive.
Keep in mind though that the DSE website has two of these drives listed.. one for $99 and another for $139.

  • +3

aren't these the drives which have the clicky sound of death?

i looked up reviews on amazon and whirlpool and that's the impression I am getting…

    • Yep if you get the click of death - which both of the ones i got had, you will have to rip the drive out and put it in your computer as the USB controller appears to be faulty…

  • Anyone know what drive is in these?

    • supposed to be the new seagate st2000dl003 series

    • Mine had a Seagate ST2000DM001.

  • Just called up Officeworks and price matched, awesome! Was on hold for 20mins though…

    Delivery is today as well.

  • +1

Got one from Officeworks -$94.05 should be delivered today

  • so excited

  • +2

Get in quick at officeworks before they lower their price!

    +1 LOL!

  • +2

You guys were lucky as the woman I spoke to wouldn't budge and jokingly offered me the normal $139 price of DSE. Yeah no.

  • +6

    File complaint here
    http://www.accc.gov.au/content/maintain/create/index.phtml?c…

Officeworks policy clearly states they will match online prices:
    http://www.officeworks.com.au/retail/content/Lowest-price-gu…

    • +1

Grr! Thanks for that. On the phone for another 20 minute wait again. Fingers crossed I actually get someone who knows what they're on about.

      • I was waiting for 27 minutes.
Took 18 minutes for the lady to decide she would honour the price match

Asked if I could be transfered to somewhere where I could make a formal complaint against a store, was told to call the store and speak to the manager!

        • Ordered via DSE in the end.

    • +1

      File complaint here

Just out of interest…. which part of the act do you think they are breaching?

or…. why do you think the ACCC would have any interest in this?

      • The part that says,

        Phone complaints and inquiries
The ACCC information centre is available to explain your rights and obligations under the legislation, and how we are likely to react to particular business practices. This service is available to both business and consumers and is free of charge.

      • +2

        False advertising of "guarantee".

Though ACCC will no act on just one complaint.

        • I don't think that would be breaching the act, it's simply a store policy…. you would likely get more mileage from contacting their head office, or indeed posting about it on here. Poor publicity would be more effective than contacting the ACCC…. (whom I suspect emit a groan, every time they hear the word ozbargain)

  • hmmm

i didn't expect them to have so much stock

    they're still going!

  • +2

    ""darwin123 20 min ago new

aren't these the drives which have the clicky sound of death?""

Interesting you should say that, i got 2 a few months ago before the floods at around $84 OW price match.

One clicks and one does not

No probs with the "clicking" so far.

There is a bloke on youtube showing how to open it up.

There was mention of problem with heat if left in the case, not confirmed i think.

The exact drive model of mine that "clicks" is a Model ST2000DM001 SATA 6Gb/s 2TB 7200

    see here

    http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.jsp?name=st2000DM001-barra…

The exact model written on the box is Seagate ST320005EXM101-RK

    • -1

if you only have one copy of files you don't want to keep them, back-up back-up back-up

  • +2

I had one of these fail on me full of family photos. Luckily it was 70% backed up. Just google it and see how many of these are failing on youtube.

    • they overheat because of poor enclosure design mate. rip and sucker out and put it in a proper pc case and itll be fine.

  • +1

After a bit of toing and froing, I got it priced matched in Melbourne City store (King St). They wanted to call a DSE store for availability but I explained it was an online only offer.

  • dam, would have loved the 3tb!

    • this is $50 per gig, works out better than 3tb from amazon

      • +3

        u mean $50 per tera

      • the 3tb was $159 last time i bought it from dicksmith in store…. the advantage is that dont need 3 drives to achive 6TB bt just 2…

  • +4

took the plunge and ordered one from DSE. Also get 3% on buckscoop cashback so effectively only about $96.03 delivered. Can't be bothered with calling up OW

Just hope it's a reliable drive as 2TB is a lot of data to loose if it goes wrong

    • I will be made if it is the v3 drive from dse, and v1 from O/W…

      • what's the diff between the two?

        • i'm guessing V1 = awesome green technology 5,400rpm

  • walked into OW in adelaide.
they looked up the web only offer.. but said due to it being free delivery..
they gave me the 5% off ..
i was able to get 3 at the one time …

    • +7

      your post makes no sense

      • +1

        lol sorry…
i walked in to Officeworks in Adelaide…
They looked up the deal, though they said it was a web only offer…
they will accept and do the price match due to it being free delivery…
they gave me the 5% off the price match price…
and they let me buy 3 for the lower price..

  • thanks. price matched at Mt Gravatt (brisbane)

    • Is it DSE or OW price matched? I am looking some thing in Bris.

      • +1

I price matched it at OW and got the 5% discount.

        • Thanks.

  • Just bought one, price match at OW store (Victoria Ave, Castle Hill) $94.05, thx 4 posting!!

  • If you're calling Officeworks to order this, ask to speak to a girl called Amita. She did my order and approved the price match. I told her she should be expecting more calls about this.

    • Mine just arrived… YAY!

  • Got one from local OW price matched, great deal!!!

One question tho, since there are so many bad reviews out there about this disk (Seagate ST320005EXM101-RK for me)failing, are you guys really gonna open it up and use it as a internal drive for your computer? It instantly void your 3 years warranty and if it did fail, you get nothing back including the data inside as well as the hard disk. Any comment guys? cheers…

    • 2 year warranty!

      • It says three years limited warranty on the box, no? So how would you use it, as is or open it up no matter what?

        • Officeworks advertises it as 2 years warranty

        • Yes it says three years limited warranty on the box. It won't cover data loss.

    • I have heard of some people having luck from entering the serial number from the internal hard disk. The hard disks are manufactured separately from the USB enclosures. SOME people bought Seagate USB externals which had 1 year warranty written on the box, but when they opened the case and entered the serial number from the hard disk mechanism itself, found it had a THREE year warranty.

I haven't opened mine, but I wonder if anybody who has already opened theirs would mind going to the Seagate Warranty site and entering their internal HDD serial:
      http://support.seagate.com/customer/en-US/warranty_validatio…

It should tell you immediately what warranty exists on the internal mechanism.

  • +1

Thanks OP! just got one from OW @ Sydney Wynyard, price beat to $94.05 no question asked.
Probably the guy who's in front of me with the same drive did all the talking already.
Only 1 left on shelf though, but heaps of WD…

  • Yep, got it from OW with price beat so $94.05

    Thanks OP

  • Bear in mind that this drive was offered for $79 at DSE last year:

    http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/51119

    • Bear in mind that the supply and demand today are different from the previous year.

      • +3

Bear in mind (no matter unfair or illogical), prices maybe affected by big-scale natural disaster such as, flood.

        • that's also a ONE HOUR sale and this seems to be an ongoing special until stocks are gone

          a tad different

  • Via MoneyBackCo - extra 3.5% discount

  • i got one and left one in oxley brisbane 1 hour ago

  • just got one using my discounted Wish Card, very happy

    • You got your cards already?

  • +1

Dicky sends out emails for the crap deals. But not for good ones like these :(

  • +1

seems like OW is selling more of these than what dick is

    got "dicked"??? ;)

  • So how much do you guys think these will be selling for in a few months? They seem to be coming down in price a lot lately. I don't need any more right now but I will in a few months.

  • +1

Thanks!! Got one from Castle Hill OW, price matched came out to $94.05.
This is the last 2tb I need to fill up the 4 Bay Netgear ReadyNas NV+ V2 deal a few weeks ago.

    • looks like you will be taking the drive out from the enclosure, may i ask what will happen if the drive failed? Will you be able to get it fixed or replaced by Seagate since the warranty is voided?

      • obviously they won't?

        • I understand that they won't for the whole package, but how about the hard-disk itself? Does it have its own warranty like the RAMs?

        • nup, no warranty on the drive if you take it out of enclosure.

      • no you won't.

warranty is void if you open the case.

    • +1

No warranty once it's taken out of the external case. It's a risk I'm willing to take. I just took it out of the case, ST2000DL003, used a plastic badge cards to pop the case open, few clips broken, oh well.

I just checked the serial number on Seagate's website and came up with below.

      Seagate Warranty Validation:
      Component
The product you identified was sold as a system component. Please contact your place of purchase for service. Seagate sells many drives to direct OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) customers. These products are usually configured for the OEMs only, as components for their systems. You must contact your place of purchase for any warranty support on these drives.
If you purchased this unit directly from Seagate, please return to the previous page and verify your Seagate customer number, because the customer number you entered ( ) does not match our records.
