Hi guys first post

The WNDR3700 is a pretty powerful router especially when you flash it to DD-WRT or Gargoyle firmware.

NOTE: This is not a ADSL2+ modem, thats model #: DGND3700

Free express shipping and free wifi dongle via Redemption program:

http://www2.netgear.com.au/bonus/promos/high_performance_bon…

JB sells this router for $247 and $98 for the wifi dongle. So for $128, its a bargain compared to retail stores.

PCcasegear also sells this router for cheap ($135) but shipping is $12

While stocks last!

MSY also have this for $128 with the free dongle. They don't, however, ship. So good deal for those outside of MSY coverage.

Or don't want to queue for 2 hours just to be told they're out of stock.

They do have an online stock counter, and you can also reserve stock, they also email you once it's ready to pick up.

Note : only wireless router.. Not ADSL2 modem

    • Modem router is model #: DGND3700 but i will make a note of it on the OP anyway

    • Of course. Most Routers aren't Modems, yet some Modems have a Router in them.

      Confusing isn't it? LOL

But seriously, if I saw a deal on a Router, I'd never even consider that it might have a Modem in it.

cos u seem like a hardcore tech guy u probably wont but it my expirince with dealing with people who have hardly idea about routers and modem the only reason y theyd but one of these is if it was a modem as well to use for home adsl setupor would otherwise be useless. Just a note so people are aware.

        • You can use it for a home ADSL setup which I imagine is what most people who buy it use it for. You just need a cheap ADSL2 modem to plug into it.

  • I have this router and it has been great. It's really fast so i have never even used the dongle that came with it. Maybe I should give it a try though.

Can always go to OW and get them to Price Match MSY, then you get it for about $122 :))

    • I'd do anything else, just so I don't have to deal with Mwave

  • Did a search and CNET reviewed this router 25 September 2009. Is it the same model? Seems old if it is

    • They are up to version 3 of this model now. (WNDR3700v3)

    • Netgear often keep the same model number but bring out different hardware version. So the 3700 from 3 years ago was version 1 or 2 (ver 1 wasnt compatible with dd-wrt)I used to have one current generation is version 3 I think better CPU, better wireless, upnp that works. (was flakey on version1)

      • Correct, however, there is now a newer model. WNDR3800
The 3800 isn't valid for the USB dongle redemption offer though.

    Is this v1 or v2?

  • The hardware dongle is great - I have the WNDR4000 router and the dongle and the speed between the two - through a floor-ceiling - is terrific.

Not really a deal as most places sell these for $128 now (with free dongle). I guess the free shipping is good though….

    Nice router though..!

Spend a bit more and get the modem router. No complaints here.

I upgraded to the modem version when my bridge modem was killed by lightning, now I get better sync speeds and better ping times, integrated adsl is the way to go

I just found it down the road at PCDIY - they have it for $119 - http://www.pcdiy.com.au/ad/Fortnightly_Specials.pdf

It doesn't specify if you get the adapter, but I imagine you would as it is a supplier special.

    Top guys there too.

  • I grabbed this modem/router (3700v2) august last year from OW - pricematched to $135. I didn't get any dongle or anything. Its been a great router and hasn't needed a reset. I chose it because it has gigabit, dual band and decent WAN-to-LAN speeds for my new fibre connection (imposed on me by telstra). Only catch is you can't requisition the WAN port as a LAN port (not that I need to) and the USB NAS has quite slow NTFS writes (~2MB/s). And despite supporting 'wireless printing', it doesn't have a print server.

Otherwise though I'm very happy with it.

It is a few years old now, but the technology hasn't really changed. They are up to a v3 version I see, which is apparently completely different with a broadcom CPU. It seems some people have concerns with the new one e.g. http://forums.smallnetbuilder.com/showthread.php?t=6441

  • pitty it's not DGND3700.. :p

BTW, it's not that much cheaper, most shops in BNE are $128

    • Thinking the same. Trying to find the best price and get a pricematch at OW. If you find a great price let me know…

  • I have this router on Optus…

Works great and recommend it :) however it is an old model now when compared to what Netgear have on offer..

  • I need the one include modem.

  • I purchased one of these yesterday from MSY. It's a version1, and DD-WRT loaded onto it beautifully.

The range is impressive, and that was just on 2.4Ghz. Haven't tried 5Ghz.

    • ddwrt is old man, should be using openwrt these days

I'm looking for a good router to get for using a custom firmware but so many choices and the good ones I find are old and can no longer find them for sale haha
