  • What is the purpose of getting something like this?
Is it basically just additional features like dual 2.5G ports and AiMesh support?

    • Getting something like this over?

We run two of the ROG version at home in aimesh setup. Very easy to run and great software support.

think the europe has weaker wifi signal. not sure if put merlin on will be able to unleash the limitation tho

      • +1

Merlin firmware doesn't unlock the Wi-Fi Tx restrictions.

      • +4

        Merlin doesn't support this router.

        • oh really? it says os is merlin in that germany link

          • @overlook: Wow, just noticed that.
AsusWRT Merlin shouldn't be listed as the OS on any product page for ASUS routers as it's a custom firmware and won't be shipped on a new ASUS router.
            I've reported it.

Get the GT AX6000 if you want Merlin firmware which is also on special.

      • There still appears to be no merlin for this, much to my disappointment having had it for a year

People here are quick to downvote anything from overseas, these are easy to permanently enable full transmit power with about 5 minutes of work.

      • poster above said you cant…or it is unlocked by other method?

        • +3

I said you can't with Merlin firmware. You can use the github script on European stock if you know what you're doing.

      • I've got the German TUF AX6000, and it's a great unit and has been really fast. The web UI is very clear and offers lots of customisations and detail. It does seem to reach pretty far across my house (on 5 GHz bands), more than my old Netgear R7000.

But yeah I have tried to change the region using the commands in the scripts, but it doesn't seem to be persistent across reboots, and I'm not sure they even have any effect. Thread about it here:

        https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3246127z?p=2#r35

Though I didn't try too hard as yet.

I also have an RT-AX3000P in an AiMesh with this, and it's been not too bad. Sometimes is slow despite reporting OK backhaul link speeds. I do need to play with the locations of the routers still.

  • is this the cheapest that does multiple vlans

  • Seems like openwrt compatible? For those that want it

  • If only this was like around $200 that would be great.
